mikelink45 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I do not know if I can stand an off season of constant pitcher speculation. We know Falvey likes to sign players late in the off season so speculation will go on until we have looked at every pitcher who can get the ball over the plate - every free agent, every trade possibility and everyone we wish we could trade for or sign. And if not that Correa talk - and we know that Boras likes to hold out and sign later so he can maximize the talk and the bidding. Can we have a World Series article - why Verlander can't win in the WS (like Kershaw and some other Aces) and what about Pressly being the closer for Houston - he did not desert the Twins we traded him. Imagine if we had hung on to Pressly and Hendriks and Graterol - on well enough fantasy. And the Phillies - Bonnes is going out to watch them - how about a good close report on the team. I am okay with looking at other teams - we play them all. Okay, kind of a whiny forum, but what would you like to read about this off season?
Blyleven2011 Verified Member Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I'm with you Mike ... The other day I posted similar thoughts why we are not discussing the world series games ... I live for opening day and tge world series and everything in-between ... It's getting old fast on the speculation on what the team might be able to obtain ,,, Obtain , they made their moves at the deadline by acquiring players with muti years of control , that tells me they aren't going to really dig into acquiring much more than a fill in SS , a bullpen arm or 2 would be nice .... Great game last night , I hope it goes a competitive 7 games ... That my plan and I'm sticking to it ....

Dave The Dastardly Verified Member Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 Amen, brother! I fear we will eventually be reading about how many packs of baseball cards we'll have to trade in order to sign up Little League pitchers before winter's over. I know, we've entered the Twins doldrums, but surely there's a fair wind blowing somewhere on the baseball seas. All we need is a navigator to get us there.

I really liked your blog on if the Twins got their Money’s worth out of Correa. The whole premise of TD is a space to speak up. Maybe you or @mikelink45can be the pied piper to lead us all. thoughts about fleshing that piece out a bit? how to apply the concept further? can you turn it into a projection tool? Decision tree?
Shobae Verified Member Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I'm new to Twins daily and while I've occasionally read some posts here in my years as a twins fan, today I open up the website and see an article "Analyzing the Impossible: Ohtani a minnesota twin" and trading for pitching with the padres with their best pitcher as the image. Is it a yearly occurrence to indulge in these delusions of grandeur or is this year extra bad? It just seems odd lots of time is spent talking about outcomes with a <10% chance of happening. Is it the Correa signing that has given people hope? I'm sure we won't have to wait long for "Sandy Alcantara: The Ace the Twins need and what he will cost" (spoiler the marlins aren't trading the face of their franchise) With regards to post season coverage not being part of the staffs writing I'd assume they focus on the twins so for that you'd have to venture to national publications. .

Yeah, pretty much. Unrealistic expectations are the name of the game. I imagine the same goes on everywhere that isn’t New York or LA.

I wouldn’t call it “delusions of grandeur” as much as “eternal optimism”. Such is life as a Twins fan. and yes, it is every offseason
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 For those complaining about the content from the writers, start your own threads of discussion, we have three forums … Twins Talk, Minor Leagues and Other Baseball. While I agree it would be nice if writers were given a bit more structure and guidance to cover all areas and not just Twins wish list speculating for next season when the current season is still ongoing, you have the power to start discussions on any subject you want and not read the ones you don’t. Explore the site, branch out, start a blog, volunteer to participate in a debate (and @mikelink45, I’m looking at you, the debates were your suggestion which we actualized). To start a discussion thread, you don’t have to write a full-blown article, just post a link or a tweet or a thought to start it off, that’s all it takes. If you don't like what the site is doing, please use the Questions forum or write the owners of the site with your suggestions.

Thanks for the note - I just wanted to give others to the chance to agree or disagree with my take. As you must know I am on the site everyday so I would not visit if the overall content was not so good, but while I can write the owners as you suggest, I think it is valuable to see if I am the only one with those concerns, and if I am it is okay to ignore my forum. I do like some controversy which is why I suggested the debates. And I enjoy getting quoted and learning peoples perspectives.

Though actually last off season the Yankees fans had a lot of (what ended up being) unrealistic expectation about shortstops and pitchers ? 1 hour ago, Richie the Rally Goat said: I wouldn’t call it “delusions of grandeur” as much as “eternal optimism”. But I also feel like if you have low expectations you have a higher chance of being positively surprised.

I tried sending you a message - What is more important - and Ace or a shut down Relief pitcher? With the change in SP use I think we are more in need of RP than SP!

Major League Ready Verified Member Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 We might be wrapped up in considering a bunch or different SPs but I doubt the FO is looking at more than a couple options which include Rodon / Bassit. We already have Gray / Mahle / Ryan / Ober / Maeda / Winder and possibly Duran. They have Henriguez and Sands for depth. Varland and SWR are also knocking at the door and hopefully Paddack is ready to go at by mid-season. Why would they want to clog the roster with another Bundy or Archer?

But the suggestions you posed do sound interesting... gonna have to give it some thought.
twinfan Verified Member Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 I think Ryan and Ober are 2 to build a rotation around. Add Maeda and Gray then maybe Mahler and it's not that bad. But we need a bullpen group that can be effective on a regular basis because today's starters rarely go past 6 innings, 90 pitches or into the 3rd time through the lineup. But it will also be interesting to see how pitchers adapt to the pitch clock and hitters do with no whole lotta shifting going on (sounds like a song title by my man Jerry Lee who just passed).
