After tonight's win against the Angels, the Twins announced that Wilkin Ramirez has been reinstated to the roster and will be back on Tuesday. He was on the paternity list while witnessing his fiance give birth to their first child. Oswaldo Arcia was told he will be headed back to Rochester.

Not really. The Twins could actually use the DH spot in the line-up like a real team and move Willingham there. Then you'd be limiting Doumit's AB's most likely. If they were serious about contending I'm guessing they might think about it, but since the pitching staff is horrible it doesn't make much sense. In 2014, however, things might be a little different.

Meh. I would have liked to see more out of the kid.

 

The evil part of me wanted Arcia to pass Hicks in hits. I want Aaron to do well but he's approaching (or passed) a historically bad start to a career.

The surprising thing for me is how quickly Wilkin came back. I guess the idea of a prospect like Arcia taking his place on the big league roster motivated him to come back ahead of schedule.

Hicks had a nice PH appearance last night. Drew a walk, stole 2B and went to 3B on pitch that got away from C. Baby steps! My guess is that Ramirez is affraid to take all three days and that the Twins will want to keep Arcia, so he hustled back from paternity leave.

Living paycheck to paycheck is tough. Guessing he just couldn't afford to miss any more time.

I was impressed. I don't read into the error. He looked a lot better than a Delmon or Willingham out their. He can move better than I thought he would. He can straight mash.

Exchanging Rameriz for Arcia would likely cause Doumit to be more of a bench bat. Gardenhire was practically begging for a stronger bench all preseason. So it seems to me the Twins want their cake and to eat it to. They want to have an adaquate number of capable bats both in the lineup and on the bench, but they don't want to have any of those adaquate bats to have reduced playing time. Something's got to give.

He got the barrel of the bat squared up on the pitch in three straight ABs. Three ABs tell you nothing, but it was fun to watch all the same. If he continues to hit at Rochester, he'll be back, sooner than later. If you can hit, every team in baseball will find a place for you, including the Twins. I suspect all it would take right now is one injury, and if he continues to mash, it wouldn't even take that. Not for nothing, but I'm with pig...I'd much rather the Twins be forced to find a place for him than have them be so bad they're forced into trading Morneau or Willingham to make space.

To be fair, I don't think Wilkin's job is affected much by Arcia. He wasn't going to be DFAd either way (whether he missed 1 or 2 games). Wilkin coming back gave Hicks one less game to earn a trip to Rochester or not.

For those who didn't see the game. Arcia wore a hoodie with a facemask, essentially covering most of his face. It is possible that it actually hindered him on the fly ball he dropped.

it's also possible that, in addition to all the cold weather gear he was wearing on his cranium, that because Florimon was coming out, he took a glance to see where Florimon was, and that caused him to lose the ball for a second and that messed up his reaction.

I was at the game last night. his AB's were pretty good. The double was great. I can't comment on the error because I was buying beer at the time and missed it... But it was fun to see him playing. They'll find a way to get him to the big league club every day soon enough.

Doumit isn't that good as a DH, so this would make sense, really, once Arcia is ready.

 

Compared to the rest of the league that may be true, but his offense was the best while he was the DH. Last year he started about as many games at DH as he did at C. While his BA was slightly better at C, every other offensive stat was much greater while he was a DH.

I had the same thought - the "convenience store robber" facemask didn't give the impression he was too comfortable, and the way he kind of threw his glove at the ball kind of suggested he was worried about a collision. Unless there's reports about him being a butcher as a corner outfielder in the minors, I'm not going to be concerned about one eff-up in his first game, which, by the way, we won 8-2.

 

It would be equally unreasonable to get too excited about his first hit either, but damn, that looked good, right!?

 

Just think if you could take rookie Hicks' defense with rookie Arcia's bat and put them together....you'd have....an MLB-ready player!
