Why take Cobb out - he had retired 12  hitters in a row and had 57 pitches?

It is an odd move, I would guess Maddon doesn't trust Cobb to face Donaldson & Cruz a 3rd time through the lineup. But in a 7-1 game you'd really think that wouldn't matter very much.

538 wrote about it today. This was the nugget that stuck out to me:

"According to FanGraphs, they are the worst clutch-hitting team in the league, producing 2.9 fewer wins than we’d expect from their context-neutral stats simply by underperforming in high-leverage situations."

Never let someone tell you RBI aren't a very important measure of offensive performance.

If you go by RBIs, the Twins are in 15th place in MLB, which IMO is pretty misleading. The leverage in the situation where you get those runs are more important than the quantity of them (that is to say, how they do in clutch situations instead of piling up runs in blowouts).

Here's your friendly reminder that the Angels are the only team in the AL to give up more runs than the Twins... even after today they've still given up 11 more runs than we have.

How can our hitters be this bad?!

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't have time to do Baseball Savant or Fangraph dives (I don't know what I'm looking at vs. what it means) I don't know. I only know what I see, and our hitters have looked awful since game 8 (No offense Arraez and Austudillo I respect your game)

This was a non-game. Should have forfeited if they were going to play like this. disgusting effort (and if we can't quantify 'effort' it was a disgusting performance.

On the Good News front the game took under 2 hours - the pain is over quicker.  Looks like they can't get out of there soon enough.

Literally, the only people I would try to keep for next year:

Buxton

arraez

larnach

Kirilloff

the rest can go, I’m done.

I'm just going to say this for every doubleheader:

7-inning baseball isn't real baseball.

It was fine last year, because it also wasn't a real baseball season.

Twins would just lose by a bigger margin if they played more innings! WE LIVE IN LOSERVILLE

This is partly on the manager. Sequencing your lineup and pinch hitters so that you give yourself the best chance of getting a clutch hit is a baseball manager's job. A baseball manager can't do too much in terms of tactices, but they can give their team like a 1% greater or lesser chance of success about 4-10 times per game. The great managers consistently get that 4-10% to swing in their own favor, and the bad managers screw it up repeatedly.

0-7 in  extra inning games.

0-7 in 7 inning games.

Otherwise we're 14-14. That is 500 baseball.

Why not, for a change, we start winning 7 inning games instead of losing them?

An while we're at it... same with extra inning games.

You think we have given them White Sox a sufficiently comfortable lead yet, what ho?

Raise your hand if Baldelli's defensive alignments remind you when you were a kid playing sandlot games.  The guy with a big glove got to catch or play first.  The other guys volunteered or were told by the 'captain' where to play.  The dweebie kid with a snotty nose, always ended up in right field.

Donaldson with a brisk walk around the bases or he might have scored. Pay a guy that much money but he’s too fragile to run 100%

What!!!!!!! Donaldson jogging around the bases?  He was close to third base as the ball being fielded.  Unacceptable....jacked hamstring or not.
