Does Garlick have average speed?

He does away with the threat of Buxton passing Cruz on the way to third.

If you are going to have the runner automatically go on contact from third anyway, there is no reason not to have had him try to score from second on the soft single to right with no outs, when he has a full head of steam and he has good speed. None at all. Some of these decisions make no sense to me.

Polanco HAS to score on a ground single to right. Just frigging awful job by Diaz.

Greg Gagne would be proud of Simmons' enthusiastic wave at that slider in the dirt for strike 3. The go-ahead run should've already scored on the single before he even came to the plate, but still...

It wasn't a soft single, their RF was scooping the ball as Polanco was rounding. He probably gets thrown out at home if he goes.

Rocco needs to go managerial finishing school to study strategies for these new idiotic extra innings. Seriously, Simmons is pinch hitting, etc.

Isn't Cave not good against lefties, and Simmons does better against them? Don't have the stats on hand but that made sense to me.

LoL...Simmons swung and missed that exact pitch 3 times.

Polanco was slowing coming into 3rd, cause Diaz had his hands up.

This reeks of a game we're going to lose. Just burning simple opportunities here.

Also, probably should have PH Garlick for Kepler instead of PR'ing him. Kepler's not viable against lefties.

I don’t know if I’d go as far as to say he’s not viable but he’s definitely at a disadvantage against lefties, doubly so against lefties throwing Soto’s nasty slider.

Tigers announcers say that Hinch pinch ran for Cabrera last inning to set up a speedier runner at second. If that's true, we're a checkers team playing a chess team.

Edit: While Baldelli pinch ran for Cruz for no good reason and now if we do further into extras we don't have Cruz.

Probably? Probably not. Pretty soft. Barely poked off the tip of the bat. On purpuse by Cruz. I take that bet everytime in this situation. Much tougher throw from right than from third, too. You need to score that run, or at least try in this new extra inning runner on second BS.

If Cave is so bad, he should never make the roster.

He pinch ran for someone who didn't get on base?

Simmons pinch-hitting there was the obvious and right choice. Soto would have eaten Cave alive.

But that Simmons was only one left to pinch hit, that would be the head scratcher to me.

Huh? Both Chief and I pretty much said PRing for Cabrera was the obvious choice. It wasn’t a chess move, it was obvious.

Watching the Twins play this new extra innings format feels a little too much like watching the Wild try to scrounge up wins in shootouts during the Jaques Lemaire era of '1-0 win, anything else is a loss or tie'.

Well, how did it happen then? Did he replace him on defense? He replaced him, that we know.

Well I don't think it's legal to pinch run for the guy between the time he grounds to third and the time the DP is completed, so yeah. It would have been as a defense replacement.
