A reminder of one of the absolute worst trades in Twins history: Aaron Hicks had 3 hits tonight for the Yankees in their game 1 win in the ALDS, playing center field.

But thats not the worst part...tonight was Hicks' TWENTY FOURTH POSTSEASON GAME as a Yankee. TWENTY FOURTH, with at minimum 3 more this year.

Worked out ok for Hicks.

Horrible trade for sure, but Hicks has fewer ABs than Buxton the past two years and has been worse than Buxton while doing so. The Twins kept the better (currently) and younger of two extremely injury-prone CFs, I think the time to lament his departure was 4-5 years ago.

Rough night for ex-Twin John Curtiss. Pitching the 9th inning trailing with his Rays trailing by a run, Curtiss gave up an RBI single to Hicks, then a grand slam to Stanton, not only putting the game out of reach, but also letting the Yankees skip using their closer -- which could be important, in a series with no off days.

I started to joke that that's because Aaron walks so much more often than Byron. But then I looked it up, and you know what, it's true!

2019-20:

Buxton: 430 PA 401 AB

Hicks: 466 PA 390 AB

Besides that, you are combining numbers for a full 162-game season with a pandemic-influenced 60-game season. A better way to express it is that both players served part-time duties in 2019 due to injuries but Hicks played essentially full-time in 2020.

Liam Hendriks gets the win in relief to keep the A's alive in the series.

And closes it out, as expected.

3 innings! 37 pitches, for an actual closer. His longest outing since 2015 (his first season as a reliever).

I wonder if they will still use him today? They did let him struggle through 49 pitches in a game last week vs the White Sox...

Nationals have signed lefty Sam Clay. Not sure if this will be one of those that got away. But we still have Caleb Thielbar!

Since when are folks worried about losing 27-year old minor league relievers with high walk rates?
