John Kelsey Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 With the division race heating up and the Indians being a common topic of conversation around here it seemed like it might be useful to have a thread to discuss their games, injuries, roster moves etc. Especially on nights like tonight when they are playing and we aren't and we don't have a game thread. For example, the Mets currently lead 2-0 and Syndergaard has a perfect game going. Would be quite the sweep.

(Bloop single spoiled the no-no a moment ago.) / edit - and now rain-delay in the bottom of the 6th

AlwaysinModeration Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 How long before they call this game?
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Thanks for starting this thread! I was collecting Cleveland’s failed sacrifice bunts for a while, but stopped, because it just seemed... weird. They had three in the series finale against the Twins on Aug. 11 (Cleveland won). But their sac bunts since then have failed to pay off. Either because they failed to advance the runner, or the runner didn’t scor— wait, why I am talking about this again?
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 How long before they call this game?Umpires resume the game, around 10:00 or 10:15 PM. The score is 2-0 Mets, after six.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 And...rain delay 2, bottom 8, Mets 1st and 3rd no out.
John Kelsey Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Author Posted August 23, 2019 They called it, Mets win.
Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 I'm not a big believer in Plutko or Plesac but I'm starting to worry this Civale guy might actually be good. Watched him pitch at Target Field in the spectacular extra-inning loss. He is good. Held the Twins at bay and is sporting a pretty gaudy ERA
bighat Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 A sigh of relief from Twins Territory this morning. Nice little sweep by the Mets - they've been crushing the teams atop the AL Central this year!
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Cleveland is a good baseball team. I'd put them with the Twins in the second tier this year. I feel a lot better about their starting pitching next year, so I hope the Twins take advantage this year.

USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 Jose Ramirez out for potentially the rest of the season..... huge blow for the Indians (hamate bone injury)MLB.com confirms fractured hamate. Out until spring training.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 I hate it when people get hurt. Bummer. Real bummer.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 Woohoo ... Royals win! 9-8 in 10 over Cleveland.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 MLB.com confirms fractured hamate. Out until spring training.Interesting, I haven't seen a specific timetable yet anywhere. Victor Caratini of the Cubs had the same surgery on April 15th this year, and started a rehab assignment on May 6th -- so he was only on the shelf for 3 weeks. Of course, that was called an "incredible" recovery:https://chicago.suntimes.com/cubs/2019/5/7/18619009/cubs-catcher-victor-caratini-s-incredible-recovery-from-hand-surgery Allegedly Delino DeShields had a 3 week recovery last year too:https://www.mlb.com/news/jose-ramirez-surgery-for-fractured-hamate-bone But Joey Gallo had the same surgery on July 25th and is still out, 32 days later, still reporting "some soreness" when swinging a bat (of course, the Rangers are out of the race at this point, with little incentive to rush him back either):https://www.mlb.com/rangers/news/jesse-chavez-hunter-pence-joey-gallo-injury-updates
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Ramirez update: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/08/indians-place-jose-ramirez-on-10-day-injured-list.html "Ramirez is expected to miss five to seven weeks recovering from the surgery, the Indians announced. That almost certainly puts an end to Ramirez’s regular season while still leaving open the possibility of a postseason return, should the Indians qualify."
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 While the Twins game is about to get underway in Detroit, the Cleveland game is about to get underway in Tampa ... go Rays!
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Tyler Naquin out for season. https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2019/08/cleveland-indians-lose-outfielder-tyler-naquin-for-season-with-torn-acl-in-right-knee.html Hurt his knee crashing into left field fence making a catch. Very unfortunate.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Bradley Zimmer is now on a rehab assignment for the Tribe and will probably be back on the field, when they play the Twins again next weekend. He’s been out all season with shoulder issues but is probably their best defensive outfielder.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Go Tampa! 5-2 in the 6th.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Cleveland blows a late lead, loses. The story to me is who was pitching for Cleveland—Carlos Carrasco. When the Twins traded for Sam Dyson, we questioned how Dyson was brought in to pitch right after stepping off the plane. There was risk of course, but the potential reward was that he would be thrown in the fire and come out looking ready for the big time. This Cleveland situation last night seems completely different. Asking Carrasco, just back from sick leave, to protect a three-run lead against the White Sox heart of the order. Sure if Carrasco retires the side, it looks good. But the risk is it looks terrible if things go wrong. “Guy with leukemia loses game for his team.” I’m surprised Francona and the front office didn’t plot this out better. Anyway. My two cents.

I saw that he had that one prior appearance; that’s probably the type of low leverage situation Cleveland wishes they had stuck with.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Cleveland begins a 3 game series with the Angels tonight -- just as Trout is out for a few days: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/09/mike-trout-day-to-day-after-foot-procedure.html
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Cleveland beat the Angels. 5 game lead.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 10, 2019 Posted September 10, 2019 Cleveland beat the Angels. 5 game lead.Liked, for the heads-up on the status. Not for the outcome.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 Lead down to 4. Francona uses 3 pitchers to face four hitters in the 9th, Cleveland wins 4-3. Lindor hits a 2 run HR, despite near exhaustion from never getting rested.
