Nathan is one of the best relievers in Twins history. I wouldn’t compare Rogers to Nathan. Rogers doesn’t have enough history.

Rogers has more multi inning saves this year than Nathan had for his entire career. He’s got plenty of grit

 

I think that's a product of different managing and data in terms of multi-inning saves.

I must admit, I was an Adrianza doubter. I would have predicted him to hit about .220 this season. He has improved quite a bit. Is it the Rowson factor?

I was speaking more towards his defense. I don't think .265/.330/.460 is out of the question which would make him a really solid catcher.

That's not solid, that's outstanding. Like "best catcher in the league" territory, basically a light version of Buster Posey or Joe Mauer in their primes.

 

But honestly, my expectation of Garver is actually a touch higher than that right now, and I tend to skew conservatively on projections. I think he's pretty easily an .850 OPS guy, which puts him right in Posey/Mauer territory, though I think his defense is inferior to Mauer (if adjusted for era). Mauer was a very good catcher, one that would have been even better had he been given the modern tools of framing data.

 

But still, I have really big expectations of Garver for the next couple of years.

Actually, I think Smalley is pretty honest most of the time about how today's players are better and the game is just superior.

 

He's not Jack Morris, that's for sure. I kinda like Roy, especially considering how badly most players of his era adjust to announcing the modern game.

I don't think there's much room for anything but offensive regression in Garver.

 

But that doesn't mean he can't be an extremely good player going forward. He simply won't be historically good, like Mike Piazza's bat with Joe Mauer's glove. That's basically the best catcher in baseball history, which is asking way too much of Mitch.
