Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Rocco managed to lose the shutout and as soon as the shutout was gone, he should have sent Rogers to collect his save. It's a bad management of the game. would you have warmed Rogers after the first hit in the 9th? What if Poppen has wriggled out? Do you want to dry hump Rogers?
Bandit34 Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I wonder if Blyleven was biting his tongue in the last inning when things began to spiral out of control? There was really no need to take Berrios out of the game. It was an unnecessary risk in a very important game.
70charger Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 That chicken looks overcooked. Unfamiliar with jerk? People line up for hours in midtown Manhattan for this chicken, and you can trust me on this: it's legit.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Ooh, I got one: has anyone ever come in to the game in the 9th with one out and a three run lead and nobody on, had a passed ball third strike with the runner reaching and then proceeded to get the save? That part of the save rule is written only in terms of the situation when the pitcher comes in.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 So do the rest of us. But, the person who did that stuff has hung up his keyboard and no longer "in the game." Sad, in a way. Yeah Hemingway isn't writing much anymore either.

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 What's a Hemingway? 67 Pounds
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I bet both Berrios and Rogers are not too happy about it. Berrios might want a complete game shutout or at least another inning. Rogers might want to collect his save.I bet Berrios and Rogers are happy the Twins won the game and care very little about anything else.

Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 As soon as the save opportunity was gone, Poppen should have been left in to finish the game instead of using Rogers. I’d prioritize the win over padding pitcher’s stats.

70charger Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 This post took...quite a turn towards the end. It's baseball slang for warming up a reliever without putting him into the game.
Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 As soon as the save opportunity was gone, Poppen should have been left in to finish the game instead of using Rogers.Wait, you want Rocco to manage for players meaningless personal stats at the expense of winning the game?
jz7233 Provisional Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I’d prioritize the win over padding pitcher’s stats.Poppen didn't allow another man on base before he's pulled, there wasn't any danger of losing the game, one batter at a time, Poppen could have finished the game. Saving Rogers for another day...

Saving Rogers for another day...You have hindsight down to an art form. You also advocated for Rogers to come in when the save was still intact, which is meaningless. So which is it? Your concern over burning Rogers has some contradictions.

If not, better to let whoever is there to finish.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Keanu Hemmingway... What would Joe M. think? And don't edit out any of that there baseball slang. We gotta learn someday.
