Trevor May is tipping his pitches. Not the type of pitch, but its location. Notice that when he leans left, he throws left. He also tips his high pitches with his posture on release. That's why he's not fooling anybody on those pitches. May needs to learn to spot his deliveries without tilting his torso in that direction. Too easy to read, even for a duffer like me.

Good idea, Rocco. Get that ball away from May before he throws a home run.

 

May's problem actually is conceptually simple. Think of the long stick from a garden rake. Hold it just in front of the rubber, pointing straight up. That's your balance point. Now, with one finger on top of the stick, flick it towards home plate. If it lands pointing towards home, you can throw a strike. That's the art of controlling your weight shift towards the plate. Once you can reliably fall towards home plate, you throw all your pitches from the same arm slot, varying only how you grip and spin the ball, to create separation between pitches.

 

What you don't want to do is flick your stick to the left when you want to throw a pitch a bit to the left. Batters can easily see this, and will lay off that pitch, as they were doing. Same goes for changing your release point. Batters can see this, and lay off the pitch, assuming they have decent plate discipline. When May falls off to the left, NOBODY SWINGS, because it's never going to be a strike. Sometimes they do swing at his crazy high fastballs, but that's because they lack zone discipline. That's Chicago for ya. 

 

Of course, Taylor Rogers gets the final out on one pitch. There's a man that knows where his stick should go.
