wavedog Verified Member Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Glad he is able to go out on his terms. I will miss him not being in the lineup next year. Great story of a player getting to play his career in his hometown. We are left with some really good memories and boy I feel older clearly remembering the excitement when he was drafted and now reading that it’s over. End of an era - time to start a new one. Dantes929 Verified Member Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Twins lineup was so much better with him in it. Mauer and Buxton were my favorite players to watch hit. Time for Buxton to step up. caninatl04, SF Twins Fan, ashbury and 1 other 4
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Joe's been a pleasure to watch. It'll be strange not to have him in the lineup ever again. ashbury and Squirrel 2

caninatl04 Verified Member Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 I have mixed emotions. I am sad he will no longer be playing and contributing to my/our favorite team. Going to feel very strange not having out there. But I'm also happy because...its just time. And he goes out still able to play and contribute, not being "forced" to retire because his body and game just don't cut it any longer. I could not have written it better myself. Thank you for your carefully crafted words What's the old line about leaving them wanting more? Very best of luck Joe. You will be missed. Thanks for the memories. Here are two thoughts. First, I hope we don't hear "rumors / rumblings" 14 months from now that he's considering returning. Maybe 1 in 20 of those turn out well. Second, and much more positive, I hope we hear that Joe has been signed as a marketing executive with the Twins or (my better wish) a roving instructor teaching hitting and defense.
caninatl04 Verified Member Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 My two cents. When it came to Joe, we never heard: Drugs, Hookers, Domestic Violence, PEDs, "Vehicular Incidences" (Sano and Randy Moss) Trade Demands Assault at a Night Club at 3 am. Going 135 mph the wrong way on I-35. Nothing but class. Jerr 1

Maybe 1 in 20 of those turn out well. No chance. Joe Mauer is so low-drama and anti-diva he'd never be able to do it. I mean, this is a guy who gets crucified regularly on KFAN for being too boring (and let's be honest, because he no interest in doing media appearances with Dan Barreiro). he just doesn't have the ego in him to try to reappear on the stage after being retired for a year or two. Especially since you know that the number one reason he's hanging it up is because he doesn't want to get another concussion and risk long-term health problems. Jerr 1
