Just struck tonight by the game tonight, and what we've seen from these two guys. No opinion offered up, just numbers presented. No opinion, just numbers to consider and what to make of them today, and going forward. The rest is up to you.

Cave: Rookie. 25yo. Acquired before the start of the season.

MILB quad line: .284/ .345/ .421/ .766

199 AB W/Twins: .261/ .310/ .487/ .798

Forsythe: Veteran. 31yo. Acquired in the Dozier deal to fill a spot and balance the financials of the trade.

Career overall: .249/ .328/ .377/ .705

500 AB w/TB 2yrs: .272/ .346/ .444/ .791

WAS 110AB W/Twins: .300/ .394/ .345/ .739

Young player acquired and unexpected. Veteran player acquired and unexpected. Doing nothing but tossing out numbers.

Would like to have Forsythe on a one year contract for 2019,  hopefully some of the Twins middle infield prospects will be ready in 2020.

Cave could be a starter or 4th outfielder next year.  Would like a right handed bat incase Buxton does not pan out, but still could well be a useful piece.

Cave has some value as of now because of the Buxton situation and Is young enough to develop into mlb player. Still to early to tell on him but could fill role of 4 th outfielder. Forsythe has only any potential if we sign him and if we do what does it do to players coming up in the system. I could see signing him to one year deal but we have done to much of that these last couple of years and see how that has worked out. We need to start filling some these holes in this line up with long term players if were going to develop into major league team. Its joke what we have on the field now as of team were experimenting with openers haven't called up some players to be looking at them if were going to keep them or let them go or loosing them to rule 5 draft. These people were brought in fix baseball side of the Twins and I never was completely sold on these people because I thought they were always saying what people wanted to here instead of deciding how they were going to put a winner on the field. They are all about getting prospects but baseball is also looking at what you have how  to keep most talent on the field and still adding new talent to develop each year. Look at this ball club as it sits now for the coming year show me where the talent is unless Buxton and Sano both become all stars again. Were going into next year with Gibson in last year arbitration so are we going to trade him, Berios at this point at best number 2 starter, Odorizzi pitcher we could fix if anything has gone backwards this year and also in last year arbitration, Mays who we had in the bull pen and now finally getting him to starting, Pineda hurt again and how effective he will be next year, and several of future minor league pitchers of the future but were experimenting with openers instead seeing if can pitch at this level. 1st base is open especially if Mauer doesn't return, 2nd base open with maybe Gordon possibility to fill the position if he's ready yet, SS we have Polanco but maybe he would be more suited for second base, 3 rd base we Sano if he returns in shape and he can learn to hit again or is he our 1st base choice or DH, Catcher we have Castro if he's healthy enough to catch and Garver looks like he can hit but can he field good enough, outfield we have Rosario in left solid player there, Buxton in center but doubts about his hitting, and Kepler in right still developing but still bright spot yet for the Twins, and now Cave as our fourth outfielder. The bull pen needs work if its going to be major league adequate. This is what I see how this team is constructed right now show me how they are going to compete next year. Are they going sign bunch of free agents to fill these wholes and improve batting of this team and next big question to get quality free agents you need a team that is committed to winning. This is going to be hard with last two year track record even when they were contending they gave up and this year they gutted the team not even signing some players that had been examples of what you want as players instead just traded them away. This team is at least 3 years away from even being considered contender again unless there ship comes in Sano and Buxton have great years.

I hope Cave is our 4th OF next year. I think he could easily be a starter on an average team but good teams have guys like him (or even better) on the bench.

Forsyth won't be the reason we either do or don't win the World Series but I would rather see them sign someone even a few years older to a 1 year deal along with bringing back Esco to be the utility guy with the assurance that Esco will start 62 games at 3rd, 22 at short and 42 at 2nd.

Cave should be our 4th OFer and, if the Twins decide to move Kepler, he and Wade could hold it down until Kiriloff shows up.

I'd be ok with Forsythe back on a one year deal since I don't think we have a better in-house option to start next season.

He might be a late-bloomer. Not much in his minor-league progression suggested this kind of performance, until his second half at AAA last year. I'm prepared to write off highs (or lows) like that as outliers, and his AAA performance this year was back in line with previous performance not suggesting any kind of lengthy major league career, but then his major league performance has been back up in outlier-land. Color me skeptical but willing to let this play out (unless we could sell high, and get something really valuable). As for defense, his glove will always make me nervous in center, but now I'm being a broken record again. Fourth outfielder sounds about right.

I don’t think slash stats in a sample short of a full season would support any conclusion. Pitch level data and strike out/walk rates might be useful in comparison at this point for Cave. His strike out and walk rates aren’t very encouraging.

The skilled eyes of those watching him daily is much more valuable than the data in ~200 plate appearances. I wonder what they see.

Clearly we were making a playoff run adding Logan Forsythe.  And all it meant was giving away the husk of Brian Dozier!  We even fleeced them out of a prospect to upgrade!

The same “skilled eyes” that see something in Matt Belisle?

I think we should let Forsythe go. Move Polanco to second and sign a real shortstop to a 2 or 3 year deal

About a month ago I began pounding the drum for this combined with signing Iglesias. Polanco is a good-hitting middle infielder, but having him stretched at short isn't the best solution.

Cave has been a positive surprise. I think fourth outfielder would be his floor for the start of 2019. If the Twins would consider Kepler as part of the plan for first base next season (I think they should), then Cave would have plenty of at-bats even if Buxton does reclaim center field (I think he will).
