To me that run scoring is an example of shift misuse ... The only thing the hitter can really do with that pitch is go the other way, yet nobody is home.

Jeez Austin, just put the ball in play there. Sano moved 'em over, just make contact and drive him in. I'm guessing Austin might need to shake off some rust here and we should keep expectations reasonable.

No positioning scheme works every time. You play the percentages. There will be times when a batter gets a lucky hit like this one, or simply goes the other way, although the pitch maybe should have been down and in rather than down and away.
