Romero recalled, who’s the casualty?

Slegers must be legitimately injured. Otherwise they would just option him to AAA.

They called it "shoulder inflammation", which I think means that they must have taken a look (MRI?) at the shoulder. It's possible he could be on the DL for awhile.

There are some Slegers quotes regarding the thing out there.  Go seek them.   I am paraphrasing:

- Felt ok pitching

- the week progressed

- then the shoulder started to hurt

- And I better have it checked up

I have no issues with Sleger collecting an MLB pay-check, but this smells...

Legit injury to Slegers or not, how is Belisle still employed?

Wishful thinking that they just don't want to call up a bullpen arm for 1 game before several days off?

Because the Twins *might* be paying a guy more than they have to? Maybe I'm missing the shenanigans, but this seems more honorable than optioning him with no possible auxiliary benefit to the club.

Seems pretty clear all week that they didn't want him to start Sunday.

Why wouldn't they have optioned him after his last start? Even if it turned out he was hurt, they could always rescind the option and retroactively put him on the MLB DL.

We could have had Moya or another pitcher up for the last 4 games. Saturday's game definitely could have turned out differently.

On a similar vein, if managing Romero’s service time for super 2 and arbitration, why is he making this start?

Did this last hot streak change course for Falvine?

In my opinion... others may feel differently but in my opinion, Despite two below average starts June 16th and June 22nd, Romero was our third best starter at the time of his send down on June 24th.

If a team considers itself in contention they don't send down their healthy third best starter because they need a bullpen arm and even if they did do that as some form of (only option) to get a bullpen arm. He would be back as soon as possible. I have always assumed despite contrary opinions from others that Romero being sent down was a service time decision under the context of out of contention.

I don't believe the front office felt they were in contention on June 24th and now recognize the slim possibility now that the team is starting to hit. So when considering who would replace Slegers... Romero becomes a spot start consideration as the best of the options and maybe he stays to see if the team can get closer to the Indians.

If the team doesn't get closer to the Indians as the deadline approaches. I think Romero will be returned to Rochester to finish out the year.

Just guesses... as always.  :)

My guess is the Front Office planned for this Sunday game to be a "bullpen" game, using Magill, Slegers, and Busenitz for a couple innings each, to pitch the game into the 7th. That would explain why Magill or Busenitz did not pitch yesterday. But if they knew Slegers was hurt and not going to pitch today, then why didn't they scrap the bullpen idea right away, and plan for Romero to be called up so Molitor could use his relief pitchers yesterday?

Why wasn't there a fresh bullpen arm added to close out the first half ANYway? So Duke doesn't need to be left out there through a five run inning in a 2 run game?

IMHO the surest sign that the FO has changed its view of the season and is going for it is the decision to keep Belisle on the roster. :)

I was just reminded that Romero was optioned after surrerending four runs in six innings...when has that ever happened to the Twins?  At any rate, I'd agree with Brian's assessment.  With a chance at contention, however small, Romero deserves the start.

I'm still baffled with the management of pitchers, from the top on through to Molitor, and then down to their own performance.

Yesterday was just just plain weird...... The Strib is running a piece on analytics and how Molitor has a clear vinyl covered color coded chart to help with match ups. Makes me wonder if our MOY is color blind? :)

They could have demoted Romero to slow things down a little and take a breather. His pitching was going down hill and todays start isnt dominate either.

I don’t think Romero starting has anything to do with the FO believing the Twins are back in contention. First off, they aren’t.

Second, as has been said, they could have optioned Slegers after his last start (probably should have anyway) if they planned this.

I'm not following your thought process here.

After the last Slegers start (which they lost) the Front Office that originally sent Romero down may not be thinking they are back in contention and they may not have planned to bring Romero back after the Slegers start with the All-Star Break just around the corner.

They also may have been waiting to see how Slegers shoulder responded before making any decisions of this nature and it didn't respond well apparently.

In the meantime... before they get to picking a starter on Sunday. The offense continues to show signs of life after 3 months of not showing signs of life and the team has won 8 out of the last 10 games and would love to make it 9 out of 11 going into the all-star break.

They need to pick a starter or throw a bullpen game after the bullpen got used on Saturday. They probably conference with Molitor and Molitor is telling them that it's starting to come together... get me Romero and let's go into the break on a positive note.

They are 7.5 games out and that could look different by the time July comes to a close and I don't think Molitor is as willing to lay down as we are.

Optioned after the start, so it only "cost" the team 1 day service time.

And they can save a few bucks with a 24 man roster for the next 4 days. :)
