agreed,  pen has already given away too many games.  Either bring up the kids(my preference) or spend some mid level farm assets on pen pieces from clubs out of the race.  This should be done sooner rather than later.  Number of pitchers Molitor trusts in the late innings is about 2(Rogers and Kinzler).  They will be burnt by September.

theres by plenty of room for both promotions and outside talent. Not sure there the assets required to do both, but definitely the need

Twins rotation has the 13th ranked FIP in the AL and the 14th ranked ERA in the AL. They've done their part in giving away games too.  The bullpen has been overworked.

Not going to argue with the point above,  but number of leads handed away by this bullpen is awful.  Rotation may be able to be fixedif not now offseason).  Bullpen needs to be fixed now.

Who would you promote?

Fix the bullpen!!!!!!!

They aren't listening, Dave, but have wished more than once you were in charge!

Reed and Curtiss would seem to be a good place to start with callups. And, honestly, could Tonkin or Baxendale be a whole lot worse than Belisle?

Then they could also take shots with guys like Bard, Rosario, Melotakis and Romero (if they decide it's time to slow down on his innings).

There's no shortage of arms that might be able to help, and if they're going to fail, I'd rather they fail with the unknown upside guys than the known mediocre commodities.

Who would you promote?

I would promote Jorge to the rotation, Reed to the bp, Gibson to AAA, DFA Belisle

Promote Romero to AAA, DFA Pino

Look to Promote Romero to the rotation after the all star break and send Santiago to the bullpen, DFA Breslow

Curtiss is first on my list for injury, and probably Hughes goes first and looks to be soon, maybe 60 day

If the FO doesn't make significant changes to the PS--either promotions, trades, or signings--they are just punting on 2017.

The silver lining to the injuries of Burdi, Chargois and others, is that if they had been promoted faster like I think they should have been, then the common wisdom would look convincingly like their injuries were a result of being promoted too fast. In fact the major leagues might be a safer environment for players with more and better trained eyes watching over. Just a guess, though.

That said, I think out of the healthy AAA guys left, we are pretty close to the end of the promotion line for 2017. Curtiss, maybe. Certainly not Melo at this point after he was DFA'd. I don't know much about Reed. Busenitz and Hildenberger are up, and looks like they might contribute the rest of the way. So, there's that.

you've seen how many guys they've run through here, right?

You guys all understand they're going through the churn of these guys right now, right? I mean I probably would have DFA'd Belisle and Breslow by now, but you can't bring up guys to fill their roles and just throw them out there, either. What they're doing now is probably about as fast as you can run guys through here without looking like an absolute joke.

you see that Reed has thrown like 13 innings this year and is walking everyone, right?

Obviously, you mean, minus the 0 walks so far in AAA, right? Or do those innings not count?

Nope, we're completely clueless as to what's going on. Please explain it to us. And don't be afraid to dumb it down for us that aren't quite on your level of brilliance.

Pino isn't taking anybody's spot. He's a company man. He'll pitch in whatever role is needed. Organizations need guys like him.

Yeah, in like six innings. Look at the whole season. Not enough innings, not enough command. Be serious here.

They've used 27 pitchers. The idea that they aren't trying things is hilarious.

He isn't even on the roster. You can't DFA him.

As opposed to Belisle just being terrible?

We could just as easily say the 6 in 6+ at AA was due to not enough innings and SSS.

So, perhaps both him "walking everybody" and "walking nobody" could be based on SSS and the reality is that it's probably somewhere in between?

Either way, is it a whole lot worse than the 4.8 per 9 for the polished veteran presence that is Matt Belisle?

I think that they are trying things.   And to their credit, they are mostly willing to get rid of the things they have tried and haven't worked.  The problem however is that the team is doing better than anybody thought, and the quality or readiness of things they are trying is not quite that of a contender.

This is the biggest issue with this FO:  They wanted 2017 to be an evaluating season, happened to be a contending season and they are doing nothing about it.  Half rear-end does not cut it any more.  You either evaluate and rebuild, which means bye bye Belise, Breslow, Santiago and hello a bunch of young arms, or you try to compete, which means bye bye Belisle, Breslow, Santiago & Co and welcome better pitchers from outside the organization.

Other than that they are trying to polish turds.  And if that's what you are trying, it is not good enough.

After the All-Star brake figure out the three starters you are keeping and stop pussyfooting with any others.

You have Kintzler, but remember he burnt out towards the end of the season and won't he be a free agent?

Think 2018. If they aren't going to be here fer sure in 2019, don't play them anymore in 2017.

Any of the young guys would have to equal Breslow-Belisle-Pressley-Haley.

Hughes is on a short lease.

Look at the minors and start promoting and think pitch counts. Make sure you can see/use Curtiss in September.

Forget salary commitments. Forget long-term contracts. Start making your own template, new regime.

Remember, any NEW GUYS can't be as bad as the guys currently stinkin' up the mound!
