I'm not sure they still do this, but I remember years ago a story about the Japanese league. If a televised game went past it's allotted time, the broadcast was over. The league made sure that didn't happen very often.

 

That's what it will take for things to really change here. The broadcasters will have to demand change.

They'd have to start by cutting down on commercials between innings. Before MLB mandated commercial times it was rarely more than 60 seconds. It was hustle in, hustle out, 8 warm-up pitches and play ball.
