mlhouse Verified Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 What in the F are the Twins doing? Seriously. Of course this is one of their perfect "prospect", some journeyman of journeyman, with a career 4.15 AAA ERA. Why give this guy a shot when you are not willing to give Trevor Hildenberger a shot? Or David Hurlbut, a long time Twins minor league player that is sporting a 1.59 ERA at Rochester? Much less JJ Berrios who is the Twins best prospect and has dominated at AAA level now for 2 years. WHAT IS THE FASCINATION WITH OTHER TEAMS REJECTS?????????? Who is calling the shots???? Is the similarity to previous moves indicate that Molitor is calling the shots? This team is NOT going to get better if it keeps plugging in these non-entities without future while holding their own prospects back. I have seen David Hurlbut pitch several times in Ft Myers. I don't think he has the stuff to be a MLB pitcher but I think that the Twins should run these guys through and give them a chance. If you think this team is a contender over the full season you are fooling yourself. We have way too many holes to fill. Delusions have already set this rebuild back 4 years, and continued delusions will keep this level of futility going for many more.
drjim Provisional Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Thankfully the Berrios concern here didn't age well. Wouldn't be suprised if Wilk is the one DFAed to make room for Jose.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted May 12, 2017 Author Posted May 12, 2017 This may be much ado about little. If Tepesch has a bad start tonight, he's probably DFAd tomorrow. If Wilk is good or bad on Saturday, he could be DFAd right after his start. If there is a doubleheader, Mejia or Berrios could still be here by Saturday or so. Yup, it was much ado about nothing... Falvine saw Wilk as a reliever, and they are calling up Berrios to start on Saturday... WLFINN 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Yup, it was much ado about nothing... Falvine saw Wilk as a reliever, and they are calling up Berrios to start on Saturday... he saw Belisle and Breslow as good RPs too, right? I mean, RPs matter, right? A LOT of the posts here are about passing over Twin's prospects, not just about Berrios. Oldgoat_MN 1
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Yeah, I don't think it is quite "much ado about nothing." There is still the matter of whether Wilk has much promise as a reliever, why we are trying that midseason instead of last offseason, etc. Also, has it been announced that they are permanently moving him to the pen? Or is he just not starting Saturday, but could start in 10 days or so like Tepesch did?
howieramone2 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Yes, I'm sure they feel that the FO is doing everything possible to augment the problem.17-14. Last year at this time we had members posting we would lose 115+ games.

Of course, but if they (or a scout or someone) saw something in his stuff that says if he throws just his top two pitches, he might have a chance to be a dominant lefty reliever, why not? If he's here for 2-3 weeks and it's clearly not going to happen, or someone in AAA (or AA) dominates, you drop him and bring them up. They said they only see him as a reliever. That's not to say he can't start. Obviously he can. But my guess is they have enough track record on him as a starter that they don't have interest in that.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 After tonight's game, the Twins DFAd Adam Wilk as he's out of options and the Twins are going to call up Adalberto Mejia. They have ten days to put him on waivers or trade him.

Better options in AAA, especially Slegers and Hildenberger, depending if you want a starter or a reliever. Since Wilk is making room for Mejia, the Twins might need to reconsider one of their veteran relievers, like Belisle or Breslow.

Belisle is probably the next DFA candidate if they think someone better can replace him, unless Haley is injured.

Molitor continues to you him in leverage situations. I don't think he is going anywhere unless it is a trade. Haley would likely be the next candidate to go if they think a AAA arm is ready. Busenitz might be the next one up. Hildenberger might be viewed as the second coming of Slama. That is his deception works well in the minors but his offering will get killed in the majors

Five times, he has left with the score worse than when he entered, including from ahead by one to tied, from down one to down two, down three to down eight, down one to down six, and down three to down four. Even if you don't count his two total meltdowns, he has seven walks in 14.1 innings, as compared to Haley's five walks in 16.1 Innings.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I thought all along Wilk would be DFAed when they actually had five starters on the 25-man. The added bonus is that there's now a spot for a deserving AAA starter should Gibson flail and fail on Sunday. Riverbrian 1

Not acceptable. Even if you take out the stinkers, it's 7 BB in 14 IP. That's STILL way too many walks. Danchat 1
