I think you'd have to be pretty dense to feel heartened after last night's address. Platitudes abound. Most egregiously, his appropriation of the fallen soldier and his aching wife to defend the (hollow) merits of his untimely death brought me chills. And don't get me started on 'VOICE.' Shameful.

 

Well, isn't that all major political speeches?  Every year we get a State of the Union address that is pretty much exactly this.  I guess I can't criticize that.  Everyone does this schtick and has for as long as politics have existed.

 

The only difference I see is in the reception and how low our expectations are for Trump.

I was simply surprised he seemed normal. The bar is set so low for him, that people are hyperventilating over him sounding normal. I would have to look back at speeches, but I'm pretty confident in saying it was the worst state of the union in a long time. GW used to give some good speeches occasionally, so it would be interesting to see this one ranked in the last 30 years.

I tend to think how  good a speech like this is viewed has more to do with whether your pet issues were touched on rather than the rhetoric itself.  All of these are really just the act of kissing a baby on camera stretched out over three hours of blather.

Things just keep getting worse for trump. The new ObamaCare bill is being protected like a nuclear bomb. Supposedly the gop is going to try to push it through without anyone reading it or providing input. Yeah, with something this complex there is no pushing. Constituents want all the benefits of the aca, yet think there is a way to do it without requiring everyone have insurance.

 

Add in that trump clearly is going to cut entitlements, which he promised he wouldn't, and increase military sending (wtf)... Rhetoric is one thing, the real world is actually real life. McCain and Graham had a town hall last night that was excellent. Really respect those two. More republicans will start going to their side I hope.

The whole debacle with Trump accusing Obama for Phone Tapping Trump Tower is the last step. I hate Trump like I would hate a child molester and killer - the former is actually something that has been thrown out there in the last year.

 

This dick wad tries to spin everything bad against him. He is the purveyor of fake news and he attempts to throw this awful blanket on his opposition (mainly the media). I really hate Trump and his gang of evildoers. At times it seems like they are succeeding with there utmost lies.

 

I don't think there is much left to be said on the Trump topic. I am done with it unless there is a shift towards sanity, which would probably lead to his impeachment.

 

Words can only do so much in a limited forum. Venting is good for a person - I am past that point.

 

I hope that awful man and his cohorts get what they deserve. I hope the majority of citizens in this country explode and give him his just rewards.

I have seen Sarah Huckabee a couple of times now as Trump's spokesperson.  She does not have Kellyanne's sugar does not melt in my mouth while I lie while talking in an innocent girl voice.  She tries to do the same deflection tactics, but seems much more rattled and uncomfortable.

I now feel like I killed the thread, unless people are now feeling good about the President and how great he is for the country and the welfare of the world in general and that is what is leading to the slowed down thread activity.

 

I know warning the GOP of a bloodbath at the 2018 elections if they don't pass his healthcare bill is a sign of a true leader.
