Game Thread: Twins at Tigers, 9/13, 6:10pm

Well, I haven't written one of these in awhile.

But that shouldn't matter, as I haven't watched a full Twins game in awhile, either, and that's more of a pressing concern to me right this minute.

Tonight, the Twins and Tigers face off in yet another baseball game where runs will be scored, most of them by someone other than the Twins. Kyle "Double Digit Hits" Gibson goes against Matt "I throw with the correct hand" Boyd. This game looks to be a real barn-burner, provided you're a Twins fan and own a barn you really, really hate.

Kyle Gibson would be the most disappointing baseball player on most teams but this ain't most teams; it's the 2016 Minnesota Twins. In the past 28 days, Kyle has started five baseball games. His OPS against is .948.

Last night, Brian Dozier hit his 40th home run - an AL record for second basemen - and raised his OPS to .922.

The good news:

1. The Pub Crawl is coming. That means we'll have the unsavory task of watching the Twins play baseball but we'll probably be so blinding drunk that we'll convince ourselves they won afterward. Get your tickets here.

2. Brian Dozier is still dreamy and now hits home runs seemingly at will.

3. Byron Buxton is really fun to watch when he manages to get the brown part of the stick on the white part of the ball.

4. There is no number four because, my god, have you watched this team? I haven't.

5. The Tigers. Ick.

6. The Tigers in the Wild Card hunt. *shudders*

Lineups:

Sorry i was 3 minutes late on my thing...

(and a bit later, seeing as i checked, thought this his better than mine, and figured i would just cut and paste into this thread...)

There is some 80's sci fi movie where the main character drags himself out of a river, and is not exactly happy about his situation. A bum then delivers a stirring monologue about an eagle beating its wings, climbing into the wind to make it back to its nest with food for the young. Then there's something about suddenly cartoon x's replacing its eyes as it asks "what's the point?" and plummets down. But no. An eagle has too much self respect to do that. Whereupon of course, the main character then rally's through adversity, and wins the day, as it were.

(Kudos to those who recognize the movie from this threadbare scene, of course.)

We need to run into one of those sorts of characters...

Perhaps better known reference...

"Hello in there! Whatchya got that's worth living for?"

Alas, i am too lazy to come up with my answers right now, nor would i want to imply my answers are any more valid than yours, so i will chime in as i think about them (and not in rehearsal)

As for this game, here's who's playin'... (snip. Brock has better formatting)

Plus the unforgettable company of the few, the proud, the fans of the Twins.

Also, these places tend to have really good food.

Not really bitter, just exhausted from this season.

I actually watch specific innings and several ABs of games the next day but I can't subject myself to a full nine innings. It's too depressing.

Exhausted; that's a perfect description.

I miss the days where I could read you and Dave argue about Escobar and the discussion actually mattered.

My 2 favo(u)rite players are starting at the corners in the OF tonight... oh boy!

It'll help pad the Buxton highlight reels.

Water covers 2/3 of the Earth. In regards to tonight's lineup, Buxton's going to have to cover the rest of it.

If the Twins are crap tonight, you can flip on over to ESPN to watch some pre-world cup hockey. USA vs. Finland. I only mention because this tournament should be fun and ESPN does not seem interested in promoting this event in the slightest.

ESPN refusing to give hockey the time of day? You don't say.... Too busy breaking down what Tom Brady has been doing with his free time.

I'd suggest skipping the part where you wait to see if the Twins are crap tonight, because the answer is quite definitive.

Yeah, I know. But still. Why buy in just to not give a rat's ass? My best guess is that it's so TSN can carry it. But I'm not sure.

North - TSN still carries NHL, right? And there's no question they'd be covering the World Cup with or without EAPN, right? Not sure how it works.

Every time I look at these lineups Molitor is trotting out I wonder if he genuinely thought it was a good idea or if he's intentionally trying to tank and/or get fired. Grossman in the 3 hole? I feel like I'm living in a bizarro world

There's a lot that goes into these decisions.

I'd love to hear Molitor come up with a single defensible reason why Suzuki should DH. Ever. I've lost count of the number of inexplicable lineup/in game decisions in a season littered with them.

See what you can do when you have three catchers?

If Detroit loses tonight, they should concede the rest of the season.

I just don't get it.  Everyone's been bitching about Suzuki's defense and here he's at the perfect defensive position for him, and there's still bitching.   Some people just can't be satisfied.....      ;)
