TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Yeah....Star Wars is broken outside Mando.
a-wan Verified Member Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 I liked the Obi-Wan show. It wasn't great, but enjoyable. I liked how it delved into Leia's backstory, while also showing the Owen/Beru & Bail/Breha as the parental figures who shaped Luke and Leia. And showing how f-ed up Obi was from the end of the clone wars and order 66. TheLeviathan, Musk21 and nicksaviking 3

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 I enjoyed Obi Wan. I was surprised by some of the negative reactions I've seen. I'm more than happy to be critical of a bad Star Wars show, but some of the critics seemed to just want to pile on for the sake of fitting in. I was surprised they didn't use the show to close one of the OG plot holes though. With all the discussion in the show about Leia's birth mom, I thought for sure Obi Wan was going to force project some memories of her to Leia, which would have made her line about vaguely remembering her on ROTJ make more sense. Totally agree with this assessment. I really enjoyed Obi-Wan! Was it pointless? A bit, yeah....We all knew that all of the main characters had to survive and live to fight another day in A New Hope. But I think McGregor is outstanding as a younger Obi-Wan and it was cool to see him in that role again and to find some way to incorporate Vader as well. I'm hopeful as well that Disney can find some new stories to tell that resonate with fans. PseudoSABR 1
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2022 Author Posted July 7, 2022 I’ve really enjoyed season 4 of Stranger Things. CGI not too over the top, and intriguing storylines for most of the characters. A few of the kids, now teenagers don’t have much to work with this season like Mike and Jonathan. nicksaviking 1

I agree that I do not think they really know what to do with him and Mike any longer. The cast has grown and they probably could cycle off some of the characters who have been played out. I have enjoyed the new season (I am through episode 4) and it might be the creepiest yet. Although I might be biased because I preferred Freddie to Jason as my favorite serial killer back in the day. As much as I liked Hopper, I think I might have jettisoned his story and just focused on what is going on in Hawkins. Back in season 1, I thought El was a great child actor, and she is not horrible now, but think the actress who plays Max might be the MVP so far and have a bit more subtly in some of her acting choices. I have not gotten to Obi Wan yet (or really about the last three Star Wars/Marvel series, but it is on my list. I think Loki might be the last thing I watched, which might mean it is time to evaluate keeping the service. Although I have been watching the original Muppet Show. Vanimal46 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 Writing, pacing, acting.....all great in season 4. Loved the ending. Truly great tv. nicksaviking 1

Yeah it was really good but I was already preparing for a major death or two. Seemed like the entire Beyers family could have been removed. No ill will, just their story really seemed to have little purpose after season two. Though I suppose they may be setting up Will for a bigger role in the final season. Which by the way has me a bit worried. Are they going to go from four seasons of small town conspiracies to some kind of hell-on-earth apocalypse show? That might be jarring. I kind of thought they'd set up the final season for a time jump so the actors could play kids closer to their real age. I'm not really sure how you time jump the finale though unless Eleven somehow fixes things in the opening scene. Vanimal46 1

It’s strange that we’re now 4 completed seasons into the show, and we know almost nothing about Will Beyers. Setting him up for a huge character arc in the last season will feel forced IMO. Throughout the series he was never the glue or leader that kept the kids together. Mike Sixel 1

I thought the sneaky move would have been to kill her off while saving the day at the end of season 4, which would set up the rest of the cast in a David vs. Goliath situation for the final season. As it turned out, the end of ST was similar to Obi Wan. It seemed logical that the big bad would be too overwhelming for the protagonist, but in the end the protagonist wiped the floor with the big bad, yet still leaving everything on the brink of chaos. At least 11 didn't knowingly leave a mass murderer alive and free, for a second time.

Yes - am through episode 6 and feel like in a way they put her through the same motions/emotions/expressi....ons every season. 20 hours ago, Vanimal46 said: It’s strange that we’re now 4 completed seasons into the show, and we know almost nothing about Will Beyers. It is odd that they did not do much with him after season 1, since his character really triggered much of the action at the show's start and from the scenes they do give him he seems like a good actor. I do have issues of how good Suzie's internet connection was in 1986...
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 Lotsa good stuff here. Not all TV, of course. I am personally stoked for She-Hulk and Wakanda Forever. Mike Sixel and nicksaviking 2
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Not quite done yet, but The Sandman might be the best tv ever (though I dreaded episode 5, given the audio book version was DARK even for Gaiman). There just is no weak point in the show. No bad moment, or writing, or acting. It is great tv from second to second.

Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 I’m all caught up on Better Call Saul before the series finale on Monday. They really kicked things into gear during the last season which I appreciate. I think previously they were slow playing Jimmy McGill’s transition to Saul Goodman too much. The writers have been excellent dripping in Breaking Bad nuggets, and Kim Wexler is an excellent character in the show.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 My thoughts on House of the Dragon and Strange New Worlds are the same. They look great, but the characters are boring so far. I have much higher hopes for HoD....
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 And, Sandman is top five or ten tv all time for me. Just perfect.
MMMordabito Verified Member Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 I hope HotD can get some more action and adventure into the next episodes. It's been 90% house politics so far. The jousting was cool. Dragons in the backdrop are nice. A girl talking about how she can wait until 14 to be "bedded" is disgusting (Yes, I know it's its own world with it's own social norms).

I don't mind the politics at all....but if that's the emphasis, they need better, more interesting, characters. So far? Meh.

I didn't read the source material so I went in really dark, but I figured it would be some epic, overarching dramatic event. But after the first couple of episodes, when most of the characters from those episodes were gone, it kind of seemed episodic, like a case-study of the week kind of thing. I wasn't expecting that.

gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 Anyone watch the reboot of Quantum Leap instead of the second half of the Vikings disaster? I really enjoyed it. Made my kids watch it with me. Good times.

Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 The last two episodes of House of the Dragon were so much better than the first three, I can't believe it's the same show.
