Rob Antony Looks to Leave Mark on Twins

Recommended Posts

There's lots of layers to this crucial trade deadline for interim GM Rob Antony. Not only does he have to make moves to benefit the team into the future, but he's got to think about his own future as well.

So like I usually do, I wrote about it:

Discussion greatly appreciated

I'm not sure the Twins have enough 'stuff' to work towards the future.   So don't know what Antony would do there.   It would have to be a package mix of something out of Berrios, Kirilloff, Tyler Jay, Nick Gordan, and a dump of a veteran or 2.   No future-looking move will happen with out some of those in the package.

i.e.  St. Peter won't let that happen.

Near future?   Tough call, IMHO.

I'm guessing that a new GM will be selected from outside the organization.   I thinking that GM will want his own people.   Oh, Antony will get a baseball job somewhere.  May not be in MN.

This is pretty much a 2 month audition for Antony.  His job should be on the line.

If he succeeds, he has his old job back; if he sits on his rear end or fails miserably, he should follow his old boss.

Nothing too complicated.

You really think they would hire a new GM and let Anthony slide back in as an Asst. GM?

They've already dictated who the manager is going to be

And, there were some reports of some strange comments regarding Antony being under contract and a possibility to come back.

It wouldn't shock me at all if Antony keeping his old job becomes stipulation #2.

I think the tweet was along the lines of Anthony is still under contract for 2017 and even if he wasn't selected for the new GM, he could still have a spot in the organization.  I can only imagine a GM bringing in his own guys, but this team has surprised me before.

It's him against the field. I'm taking the field. Just my gut, but I suspect he's got no more than say, 5-10% chance of staying.

Terry and Molitor were safe as of May 7.

We saw how that went.

My gut says they don't want a publicly lame duck manager in charge with this being a key development time for Buxton, Kepler and others. But if a GM says "my way or no way" as part of the deal to get him here, I think they'd quietly part with Molitor.

So....one deal in. Thoughts?

Very good start. Let's do this again every night through Monday...

I like that he did something.  I thought Nunez would be back for sure  Pleasantly surprised.  Hoping for more.

He's really not in a bad position. Ryan left a lot of players that should be moved. The trade market seems to be a sellers market right now. Definitely for pitching. Hopefully he can get another deal or 2 done and I'll be happy.

I don't think any of the assistant GMs looking to move up could have that kind of clout. I don't think you are going to see an existing GM come in as a President of Baseball Operations and hire a GM. The 4-5 million it would take does not seem like a Pohlad move.
