mickeymental Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 i'm reminded of an iron-ranger college chum who vowed not to go to class until the temp climbed above zero. day after day he waited out an unusually frigid minnesota winter in his apartment -- empty beer cans piled high while cig butts and roaches collected in his giant-sized ashtray. then one day the cold snap subsided and the temp suddenly rose well above freezing. i ran into him outside and assumed he was finally headed back to class. "nah," he said. "this weather is way too nice for that." Brock Beauchamp, Vanimal46, Mike Sixel and 4 others 7
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I had a coworker in college from India. It was a particularly cold, cloudless, and sunny January day in Fargo and we were walking to lunch. It was his first winter in ND, and he looked out the window and commented on how nice and warm it looked outside. I stopped and looked at him for a second and crack a rye smile. I laughed and proceeded to explain to him that a cloudless, sunny day in January isn't something to celebrate in that part of the world unless you like it really cold. Mike Sixel 1
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Sally Struthers...hmmm...wasn't she on Hollywood Squares a lot? Maybe that is what popped into your head. Perhaps George Gobel...never figured out what he actually did other than Hollywood Squares. Not very old are you. Never heard of All in the Family or Archie Bunker? Craig Arko 1

Platoon Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I have never been to Texas. Chuck Norris scared me off. I have been to most of Texas, barring Housotn. You haven't missed a thing, unless of course you like brown grass, sand, wind, bat s*^t crazy drivers, and Armadillos! . If it wasn't for What-a-Burger, there is no reason for Texas. I still feel sorry for Davy Crockett or whatever his name was at the Alamo! I often wonder if Mexico would take it back? Or like trying to get rid of Nolasco, we would have to throw Oklahoma in with the deal?

A family had one for a pet (go figure) and when the nephews were young walking home from school, they said 'these people have a wolverine in their back yard.' Eh, not quite.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I've done both, living in Minnesota and San Antonio Texas. Frankly, the weather blows both places...no offense... Once you try both, you'll do what I did - move to LA and bask in the temperate Southern California sunshine. It's all good as long as you avoid being in the wrong place when that earthquake hits every 5-6 years or so. Still, beats blizzards and sauna like conditions... San Diego is my dream destination. Unfortunately I have a feeling I would be broke within a year of living in CA with the amount of taxes you have to pay and cost of living. HitInAPinch 1

Way too many people out there and I enjoy the changing of the seasons. I'll leave you to enjoy LA! I have a good friend that lived out there for 5 or 6 years before he came back. He couldn't do it any longer. Edited July 7, 2016 by wsnydes

Blake Verified Member Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I have never been to Texas. Chuck Norris scared me off.Funny story about Chuck Norris: Two guys tried to rob Norris at knife point. After Mr. Norris busted them both up, the cops asked the robbers why they thought it was a good idea to rob Chuck Norris.
