Twins Claim RHP Neil Ramirez

Couldn't agree more. From my point of view that's exactly what it looks like TR is trying to do - squeeze out another win or 2 in order to make this season not look like a complete disaster.

It is really a toss up as to who is more incompetent, Terry Ryan or Jim Pohlad

No need to upgrade the bullpen last off-season, this team was loaded with young prospects.  Clearly the Twins could not afford to have veterans blocking them.

Wait, its June 13th and none are close to ready??

I'm getting to really hate this team.  It's just down to management by flailing.  Freaking headcheese of a roster, and where in the heck is the plan?  There is nothing, NOTHING that happens day to day that seems like somebody thought of that before.

Hey, Pohlad- (you don't even deserve a MR. Pohlad anymore)-  time to clean house, eh?

TR, Molly, and a passel of these lame-arse 'vets', goodbye, and don't let the door hit you.

Chargois is just one more example of the biggest problem that I have with the 2016 Twins.

It's not that they're still on pace to fall short of 50 wins, although that facet of the team is unbelievabley disappointing after five difficult seasons of 'rebuilding'.

It's not that the highly touted prospects we've anxiously awaited have by and large failed to produce at the major league level, although that has certainly become an alarming pattern dating back to the debut of Aaron Hicks.

It's not even that regardless of talent level, the team just seems to lack a sense of competitiveness and an urgency to turn things around.

Those are all problems that make the 2016 Twins hard to love, but here's the real problem for me:

Try as I might, I can't understand what the general manager and his staff are doing.

Any baseball front office or field manager is going to make some moves that, taken individually, are unpopular or hard to understand.   That's just a given, and the nature of the business.

But right now this Twins organization appears to be conducting business with all the foresight, planning, and strategy of a squirrel in highway traffic.

Who goes, who stays, who sits, who plays; it all has the look and feel of a series of reflexive, almost involuntary pain response to the damage that's being done to the franchise when seven out of every ten visits to the ballpark result not only in mere losses but in mounting evidence of total collapse as a franchise.

You're not just losing games, Minnesota Twins.  You're not just damaging your brand.

You seem to be writing a cautionary tale about mismanagement that will be analyzed and lamented for years to come, and we seem to be getting no closer to the end of this story.

Agreed, though I might lean towards Polhad because he's allowing the other boob to continue to sit in the GM's chair.

Yup. A team that is 25 games below zero should be focusing on prospects.

That's an awfully cold team! I hope somebody got Arcia some mittens.  :jump:

Interesting that Ramirez cleared the entire NL in waivers.  If we have a chance to get him through the AL, we could outright him to AAA.

If he sticks in MLB for the rest of this season, he should be arbitration eligible this winter as a "super two" player, probably getting around $1 mil?

I could be mistaken, buy I believe league priority only comes into play after the July 31st trade deadline.  I believe for the early part of the season it goes by straight record, which puts the Twins in either 1st or 2nd on the priority list.

You are correct, I was mistaken.  League priority only applies to trade assignment waivers (August).  League is only used as a tiebreaker for other waivers.  Otherwise it is strictly record.

Which is a little more disappointing -- the Twins didn't claim Neil Ramirez two weeks ago, when the Brewers got him.  Which suggests their more recent claim was entirely out of desperation (and to get Chargois back to AAA) rather than any particular confidence in Ramirez himself.

Now I'm starting to understand more.  TR seems to be doing the opposite of what makes sense, so it's only "logical" that they claim him the second time around after he's been cut loose by a second team in 3 weeks.

I stand by my previous statement(s)

IMO these moves reek of a desperate FO trying to save their jobs. They're showing zero patience with prospects, and are trying to throw anything at the wall in order to keep their jobs going forward.

"I need to save my job. I'll bring in... Neil Ramirez. Yeah, that's the ticket."

Its almost a self-fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? He says "total system failure" and then does nothing, allowing TR to continue to butcher the roster, and PM to continue to make inexplicable line-up choices, both of which are hurting the long-term competitiveness of the team. So the total system failure has extended to himself.
