Byung-Ho Park came to the plate for South Korea in the top of the 4th inning. His team was already ahead 4-0 against the USA team in the Premier12 championship game. Park got a pitch over the middle of the plate, and hit it approximately 700 feet, into the left field seats for a three-run homer to give the Korean team a 7-0 lead. They went on to win 8-0.

It may be true that major league pitchers don't serve up fat pitches very often, but when Park sees one he seems to know what to do with it.

Another interesting side note: former Twin Ron Davis was on the mound for the US nine in this game.

That was a hanging slider at about 86 (the board said 138 kph).  But who was pitching?  Here it the official US roster and here is a picture of the gentleman serving that:

So it looks like the guy who got pounded was Mr Brooks Pounders. Just putting things into perspective.  That US team would not be a competitive team in any AA league.  Maybe at a high A level.  It reads a lot like an Independent League roster...

I don't think that's true necessarily... The US team was a collection of guys who weren't on the 40 man roster. Not elite prospects, but good ballplayers, several with big league time. 

 

Pounders had just come up with some really big pitches the previous inning but was brutal in that 5-run fourth inning. Most of the arms were AAA arms, some with big league time. 

 

Anyway, he got a mistake and he crushed it!

Quite impressive regardless of the pitcher.

 

I can't watch that second video without thinking I'm actually hearing a Bubba Watson tee shot in the U.S. Open. :)

Yeah, ditto.  I was thinking somewhere upper deck, or higher- I wish I could have seen it hit something.

I also had problems following the ball but that was a shot.  I am still disappointed that I didn't get to a SK game while they were in Taiwan (went to US/JP instead).

My astute deductions of this paragraph have led me to the conclusion that Mr. Stohs has very short feet.

So, why isn't this in the "Minnesota Twins Talk" forum?  

 

Because it is from the Premier12 tournament... No Twins players played in the tournament, MLB or MiLB... Park hasn't signed yet. I could have put it in the Twins one but thought this was the most appropriate.

Since we are on the topic of Park, has anyone heard where the Twins are in terms of negotiations? 

All I've got is this weird hot feeling in the back of my head that they're going to manage to eff this up somehow and throw the entire offseason into a tailspin.

Not sure where this concern comes from that they aren't going to sign him (not from you, but I see/hear that all over)... I don't know who his agent is. He likely has someone from the US talking to the Twins. Now that this tournament is done, maybe talks will heat up. He's not going to go play back in Korea for like $1 million or so when he can come to the States and make like $4-7M a year.
