Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Angels traded Aybar too. So they are definitely expecting to land a 3b via trade. They traded Aybar (and prospects) for a better SS in Simmons. If anything, it probably cuts into their willingness to surrender more talent/prospects to address 3B.
Winston Smith Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Not sure if serious, but since others are taking it seriously -- if the Padres think they can utilize Plouffe, Suzuki, and Nolasco the next 2 years, they're not shedding Kimbrel.Nope not real serious but this is "predict the next trade" so I threw something out there.

Kwak Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Plouffe is the next trade. Wishin' and a hope'n. Seriously, there is no reason to continue to cling to Plouffe like he is some Rare Earth Mineral. I think the Twins take prospects for Plouffe. The Twins need to learn to say "Au Revoir " to their OK players when they get too expensive and try to replace with higher quality. There definitely is a perception that "home-grown" is better and that's all too often not the case.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I only wish we could trade Hicks twice.
mnfireman Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Brian Dozier for Andrew Miller. Might be a few prospects from each side thrown in.
dbminn Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Oswaldo Arcia and a top RP prospect to the Brewers for Will Smith. Brewers will hope Arcia can learn hitting discipline from his little brother. RP prospect would have to be pretty substantial - one of the "big three". Twins get a LRP they don't have in their system. Twins may have to include a very young prospect as well.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I don't get why the Padres would do that. They are literally giving up the 3 best players in that trade.I think you might have your Uptons mixed up. SD only has the bad one under contract, a contract that rivals Nolasco's regretfullnes.

I think the Twins would have to give them the better prospects. Not often I'd say the RP trumps the solid position player but Miller is special. Three more years of control at $9M/yr. Too bad... can't see TR making this one work.

Nolasco might be ok in that park and the NL.
jsteve96 Provisional Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Gibson, Arcia for Jay Bruce and Chapman (and a prospect)there is NO way that we could get Chapman for Gibson, and no way Arcia is equal to Jay bruce.

jsteve96 Provisional Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 now that the Angels unloaded for Simmons i highly doubt they do the same for plouffe
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Just no way to pick the exact specifics, but I believe we will make a move for a really nice back of the bullpen arm. A trio of Perkins, Jepson and "TBD" could do wonders for the bullpen. I have to say, Plouffe to the Angels makes a lot of sense. The Twins have been tied to Storen, from the Nationals, at various times previously. He seems to have fallen out of favor there, for whatever reason. I don't think Plouffe fits there however. Not entirely sure what does. But it would seem they may be interested in pitching. Something like Nolasco, Milone and Burdi plus cash work?
T.C. Provisional Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 This is a hard question to answer because I automatically think of trades that will actually help the club, so I'm already at a huge disadvantage when predicting a Ryan trade. :-)Do you actually believe the Hicks trade won't help the club next year and in the future?

jimmer Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Maybe the Angels feel Kubitza is ready?
jimmer Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Do you actually believe the Hicks trade won't help the club next year and in the future? My post was a joke, but in this case, no I don't think this trade was good for us. Hoping I'm wrong.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 I think you might have your Uptons mixed up. SD only has the bad one under contract, a contract that rivals Nolasco's regretfullnes.Upton only has 2 years left on his deal, just like Nolasco. And Upton was actually good in limited time last year, not sure it will last but his power was back so he may not be awful the next two years. The way Nolasco's season ended (injury and the ineffective comeback), I might say Melvin Upton is a little more tradeable at the moment. (Meaning, the Padres may not have to eat as much money to unload him, if they so desired.) I don't think they'd trade him straight up for Nolasco right now. They seem to have no trouble finding pitchers and attracting them to Petco. And maybe Upton is the rare guy who can hit for power there.

And Oswaldo is obviously out of options. They like many other teams might grab him for free on waivers if the opportunity arose, but he just isn't contributing value to a trade with them right now.

I should've said that Ryan would trade a top RP prospect and a 2nd prospect for Smith. Arcia would be added as a flier for the Brewers. Just needed to take a sideways jab at Oswaldo compared to his brother.
Reider Verified Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 If I had to pick an outfielder to trade away, Hicks made the most sense to me, so I'm not terribly upset over that at the moment. If I have to pick an infielder to trade away for any type of reasonable return, Plouffe makes the most sense to me. I'd rather Sano play 3rd base, than keep Plouffe and move Sano to the outfield. Which brings up my next point. If I had to pick a positional FA to sign other than a pitcher, Denard Span makes the most sense to me because he fills two needs (bona fide outfielder and lead off hitter). Not to mention the fact that he is a familiar face. The Twins have been looking for a lead off hitter ever since Span was traded away and now that both Hunter and Hicks are gone, it only leaves Rosario in the outfield with Buxton and Kepler as possibilities, but also players who are also likely to start the season in AAA. I'm pretty much open to trading away most of our pitchers and am open to trading for any pitcher who will improve the team. On that note, I am also open to signing any FA pitchers who will improve upon the current staff. I think this is a very important area to improve upon if the Twins want to take another step forward next year.
Eazy Provisional Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Trevor Plouffe for a mediocre reliever.

Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Agreed. I should've said that Ryan would trade a top RP prospect and a 2nd prospect for Smith. Also note that Smith still has 4 years of team control left. That 2nd prospect would have to be pretty darn good to pry him from the Brewers right now, because our top RP prospects have looked more like suspects lately (or we'd probably be counting on them to help in 2016).

Meyer? Gonsalves? It would basically be the headliner, given our RP prospects. But maybe the Brewers hold on to Smith to bolster a much larger deal, like for Lucroy. (Like the Phillies did with Diekman and Hamels too.) The Brewers are in a weird place. Pretty bad last year, and in a very tough division, but they've got Braun, a few other decent guys, the younger Arcia on the rise, Lucroy for another couple years -- not sure what their plan is, but we haven't seen any aggressive selling yet (Gomez was nearing his walk year, etc.).
