Trade Target: Mark Texiera?

You could get Justin Morneau and give up no prospects and pay a fraction of the salary.

I don't want either for the record.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm not against bringing back the big Canadian as most people are. Particularily if they trade Trevor.

Much like what Chief posted, I would be open to 1 year with Texiera as the team's DH. There's a big need for a legitimate middle of the order bat, and all of our options (Arcia, Vargas, ABW) are all potentials, maybes, hopefuls.

I don't think it would take Gibson TBH. Depends on if the Yankees want to get out of that contract and get a little younger... Heck I would take on all of his salary if it only requires a flyer prospect from us.

Gibson for Tex straight up?  No way.  Too much money, wrong side of 30 and only one more year in his deal.  However, if the Yank want pitching now, let them take their pick from (Nolasco, Hughes and Santana).  That would have to be the deal.   Preferrably Nolasco and Hughes.

Big Tex is in the last year of an 8 year deal, though he had injury issues last season he posted some great numbers and still plays great D.

NY has Greg Bird in the wings (no pun intended) and is ready to go. Plus with ARod and others they have DH filled as well, Big Tex likely isn't going to be resigned by the Yanks, so perhaps he is on the block.

You can have him play 1B and DH basically swapping with Mauer on a daily basis. Instantly legitimizes the entire offense

Would you give up Gibson and a decent prospect for him? I would.

What did I miss?  I took a nap and when I woke up we had enough pitching to trade one of the only two guys who pitched enough innings the year before my nap to qualify for the ERA title, had the best ERA of qualified 2, lead the team in innings pitched & strikeouts, for a guy who we can hate as much as Joe just because of his contract.  So what else did I miss?  Phillies over A's in the World Series?  CUBS WIN? CUBS WIN? CUBS WIN?

Weren't the Yankees frustrated with Hughes throughout most of his tenure there? I don't think they want any part of him. I also think it would be a mistake to trade away Hughes or Santana. They both had a rough year, but Hughes was our best pitcher in 2014 and suffered through injuries in 2015 while Santana at times season looked like an ace.

If the Twins think they are one bat away, I think they should go out and pay for a guy that is both proven AND healthy.

What's the over/under on games Texiera is likely to play next year?  I'll take 85.

If it's 85, I'll take the over.

...31 HR in 112 games is nothing to shake your head at IMO...

You'll hit more HR's when Yankee Stadium is your home field than if Target Field is your home field, especially if you bat mostly left.

Yeah, now that I actually look at his stats he's been in a lot more games than I remembered.  I do still think he's due to fall off a cliff.  The two years prior to 2015 were both bad, though.  I wouldn't take the chance.

Of course, I still think Vargas can be a major-league DH, which may not be true.

Maybe we should go double or nothing on our Josh Donaldson/Trevor Plouffe WAR bet?  What the heck.

We coulda drafted Texiera in 2001, and Joe Mauer could be playing for a different group of whiners!

Tex would've left MN the second he hit free agency.  I mean, I don't like Mauer's current contract but he did first sign an extension that bought out a year of FA before he signed his big contract, IIRC.

I was wrong earlier about Gibson, he is way too much. I wonder if the Yankees would be interested in Milone and perhaps paying a little bit of Tex's salary?

Of course I only want Tex if the Twins can find a way to move Plouffe.

31 HR in 112 games is nothing to shake your head at IMO, Tex could be the perfect "buy low" type, and if he has a good year you end up netting an additional first round pick after the year anyways.

Sano 3B

Mauer 1B

Tex DH (he and mauer can split 1B if need be)

That I could get behind.  Only real issue is that it makes it more likely that Arcia or Vargas get let go, and I think that's a mistake, but if the Yankess wanted Milone for Tex, I'd do that in a heartbeat.
