Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Per Ken Rosenthal just now, the Rockies have traded SS Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays. More information to come.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Reyes to the Rockies? Position switch for one of them? Wonder what the price was...
Jham Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Hmmm... Out of the wild-card contenders... who are we better than now? I'd say not the Jays, Tigers when they get Miggy back, Astros.... Orioles maybe? Rays perhaps? Scary prospect up only 3 games.
jimmer Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I wonder how long before the Rockies trade Reyes for more prospects. This offseason, or do they wait till the trade deadline?
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I wonder if Reyes is available. Contract:2016 22,000,0002017 22,000,0002018 22,000,000 Team option 4,000,000 buyout
SwainZag Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I want too see the haul. We know it's Reyes and Hawkins, but what else?
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 And the Twins lose out on another solution. Disappointing. All the details aren't in yet, but folks saying that it would take a monster haul to get him seem a bit over estimated.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Wow, what a move by the Blue Jays. It looks like they're gearing up to pass the Twins. I didn't want Tulo, so I'm not disappointed. I just want to see the Twins add a bullpen arm.
halfchest Provisional Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 that came outta nowhere. Curious to see what the cost was when all the dust settles. Still a week left to see what the Twins do. It's not our year to go all out but damn do I miss playoff baseball. Hoping they can add enough to stay competitive without mortgaging the future.

darin617 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 They can have Tulo. Just look at his games played in the last 5 years. He make Joe Mauer look like Cal Ripken.Reyes is another player I would not want either. Basically once the legs go so does his stats.
ckrolak Provisional Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Looks like we're settling back into the pack now. It's been a fun, unexpected year, regardless. I think we'll be set up nicely for next year. We've got our prospects and hopefully will sign some free agents to fill some holes. I didn't expect this year, so I'm happy. I know about 1990 to 1991 turnaround, but you can't expect to go through the hell we went through with the Gardenhire regime and get into the playoffs in one year. It's a process and I'm optimistic. Oh and by the way -- Go Vikes!

He instantly becomes the best option at leadoff and fills a big hole (a Santana/Escobar sized one) on defense. Send 1-2 15-25th ranked prospects. Or maybe we could send Nolasco to offset the salaries 22M vs 12M and a little better prospect(s) 10-15th ranked.

I don't claim to be right, but I have little interest in Reyes.

Rockies looking to trade Reyes because they have Trevor Story ready and Carlos Gonzales still on the block. Not sure Twins could have matched Blue Jays offer.
drjim Provisional Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Not sure Twins could have matched Blue Jays offer. Twins could have matched the pitchers - Berrios and May - but I'm not sure how the Reyes part of the equation works out with the Twins. I'm sure the Rockies would rather of not picked up a player with that contract. It's a massive Howitzer, but this is about the last bullet, all in that the Jays can go.

I could see them dumping him for 'low' ranking prospects (like Gonsalves, Minier or Hu). It isn't like we are talking about Garver or DHicks. I think they are interested in Nolasco the same way that they were 'interested' in Reyes. He is owed less money than the player they traded and they get prospects. Perhaps I haven't gauged the Reyes trade value market correctly though but I don't think he has any value to the Rockies and they will do everything they can to move him in the next 4 days.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 UGH... I wanted Tulo on this squad... Even if there was a 0.1% chance I feel we could have outbid the Jays on this deal.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 So the Jays get the guy they should have had originally instead of Romero. Nice upgrade, helps them score even more runs and prevent a few as well, although Tulo is about league average this year in runs saved, still better than Reyes 2nd worst though. Latroy will help a bit I guess but that starting rotation and pen are still a disaster, unless that improves I still think the Jays end up missing out.
Tibs Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 The three minor leaguers were #3, #5, and #29 for the Blue Jays according to mlb.com's preseason rankings. Jeff Hoffman was the #69 prospect overall. I'd like to see the new update to see where these guys rank, whenever that's going to happen.

Pardon My Dinger Verified Member Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 This trade doesn't address a need for Toronto at all. They already had a premier offense. They've added a few extra runs, more than likely, but I don't see this helping them very far towards their goal.

You win games by outscoring your opponents, and you don’t get any less credit for winning 7-5 than you do 5-3. Troy Tulowitzki will help the Blue Jays score more runs, so while he’s not going to help the team’s run prevention improve that much, those runs he creates will still count in the final tally.'-Dave Cameron from the story linked above. And, you know, he's a guy that will help not just for this year but more to come.

They lead all of baseball in Runs scored by a margin of 72. Also, considering that the Yankees and the O's are both top ten offensive teams, I'm not sure that's the move I would have made. but i'm not GM of the Jays, I'm just an idiot with a TD account, so whatever.

Probably not going to lift that starting rotation too much. I might be wrong, in which case, I'd refer back to the quote where I'm an idiot.

It's the right move because Toronto absolutely hosed the Rockies but it's not the optimal result for Tulo.
