Top Ten Twins Trade Target
Twins Video
OK I will not have 10, I just wanted to add another "T" word in the Title. HAHA!!
The eternal optimist can say we are just 1.5 games out of the playoffs right now, but the realist says there is just no way we remain in contention. This of course could make Joe Ryan pure trade bait. Not to mention probably THEE top starting pitcher in the trade market. The Twins should be able to command a top return from any team interested. He should be SO in demand that the twins should actually be the ones approaching other teams. the Twins FO should be the ones driving the ship, determining who we want form other teams and going aggressively to get them.
That being said, who are the Jewels the twins should target? NOTE: this exercise is about targeting ONE primary prospect, not looking for a package deal. That being said any of these trades I would not do 1 for 1 but the prospect mentioned would be the main prize of the deal.
Who would be your one key player to go after? Here are a few of mine...
1) I am a Fanboy for Sebastian Walcott, I will stump for him anytime. While injured he is has absolute STAR potential!! could play on the dirt or transition to the grass. he has legit 30/30 potential. Will it be tough for him to live up to his hype and his tools? possibly, his pure numbers don't wow, but he has consistently played 2+ years younger than league average at each stop including playing at AA at 19. Rangers are in contention and could use a top arm with Gore and Leiter being average at best.
2) In a role reversal, the Rays could actually be in position to trade FOR pitching!! Typically known for developing and trading pitching, the Rays are leading the AL East and actually have the best record in all of baseball!! and they are doing this with only 4 primary starters, and one of them being Steven Matz who has never had a quality full season. adding a proven winner in Ryan would really help solidify the Rays rotation, Plus the Rays could trade for him now, contend, then trade him away again in the offseason to recoup prospects. SO who is the target with the Rays? Xavier Isaac. Xavier is not a TOP prospect in the Rays system, but he has a MASSIVE ceiling. some of the biggest power in the minors, Coming off brain surgery that stopped last year in its tracks he is back and he is mashing at AA Montgomery. Isaac could be a power hitting 1B for the next decade plus in a Twins uniform. more than worth moving Ryan for.
3) Milwaukee Could be an interesting trade partner. Brewers are back in 1st place despite losing a number of pitchers to injury. Ryan would be the perfect add to improve the rotation, with the added plus of keeping him away from division rival Cubs. One is probably untouchable, but the other could be quite intriguing. The presumably untouchable Jesus Jess Made is a 5 tool player at AA at just 19! Speed to burn a ton of power potential even though he hasn't tapped into it yet. He is the top overall prospect in the game for a reason. You start there and if you have to move down to Luis Pena that wouldn't be a horrible thing. Pena also just 19 at AA. While not the overall prospect that Made is he has massive upside as well. top of the charts speed and above average across the board.
4) Final player(s) on my list. Either top OF from the Dodgers organization. lets be accessories to the Dodgers breaking baseball by giving them again the top option on the market. They get Gray and we get either Josue De Paula, or Zyhir Hope. You could say going into the year the Twins had about the deepest OF in the minors, Rodriguez, Jenkins, Gonzalez all knocking on the door. Well Rodriguez continues his injury history. Jenkins has had his own share of missing games due to injury, and Gonzalez has been moved to 1B and not exactly tearing it up in St Paul. De Paula would be the next near ready prospect who could make debut out of spring next year.
So who is your ONE target prospect worthy of moving Ryan for?
