Can the Natl Enq piece about Cruz be put to bed at this point?

No. These stories take a while for things to come out, in the case of Edwards it was a couple weeks before the other shoe dropped, and boy, did it drop.

If all this were truly made up out of thin air, then Cruz would have already moved to sue the enquirer and their sources, of course no such action has been taken or even hinted at. Cruz (or his people) are smart enough to realize that any lawsuit would result in a discovery phase, which if he has nothing to hide would be fine, but if he did have something to hide, then uh oh!

Also this story has been verified by other reputable reporters, I know in the internet age we want immediate follow ups/updates to the story, but make no mistake, everyone is now working on this story and it will "break" again soon enough.

given the people I know supporting Trump or Sanders, and their national receptions......

I think a real populist that wasn't a psycho or 10000 years old could have won this election.

Put to bed? Or taken to bed ;)

Sadly and predictably, this election garbage seems to have started to run out of steam. I'm not sure what other than tabloid pot shots will float the news cycle until November.

Is it just me, or has the build up totally been mis-timed. For all the bluster and media coverage, I think there's a good chance the voting public is going to be bored with the whole thing 8 months from now.

So you're saying they're not guaranteed a renewal for next season?

Like ... oh ... say ... Elizabeth Warren?

Warren was going to have many of the same issues as Bernie. She might have won this particular election against Trump, but any non-dumpster fire from the right and she loses. Just not a broad enough appeal.

It's hard to think of a person right now......but I'm sure there is someone out there, but I agree, Warren might not be that person.

The parties have both done a fantastic job limiting intelligent people with common sense, reasonable ideas from having a voice.  It's in neither of their best interest these days.

Well did you watch this current season? This show is getting more and more unbelievable. Who would put Frank Underwood in the White House now?

I think that would be dependent on what we heard from her in debates, because she doesn't claim to be the socialist that Sanders is and unless we heard her debating issues, I don't know that I'd agree that she is as staunchly against compromise like him.

To me she seems to be what most people like about Clinton and Sanders without most of the dis-likable parts. She seems level headed with a personality, but not beholden to a special interest and a positive voting record, of course largely due to not having to vote on past deceptive issues brought to the Senate. The inexperience however appears to be a bonus these days as she would be able to use the "outsider" label as well. "Outsider" and "Watchdog" of course. Watchdog is a pretty great label to have, and that's basically the one label that everyone knows about her.

I think she would have mopped the floor with everyone unless there are some skeletons we don't know about.

Yes, the ratings are falling like rocks. I blame it on the competition with Castle re-runs.

It's not the socialism angle so much as it is that Warren is kind of a one-trick pony.  She's really good at that one trick, but a President is about much more than income inequality.  Hell, you could argue out of all the major offices to hold, President may be the least influential on that front as any.

She does and knows one thing really, really well, but she has basically no legs to stand on in regards to a host of other issues, foreign policy chief among them.  The world is a big, complicated, and scary place and it takes a lot to try and manage those issues.  I hold up foreign policy - for the office of President - as by far the most important trait I look for in a candidate.  And, like Bernie, I just don't think she has anything to offer in that regard.

But she's doing a damn fine job keeping the big banks in check and being an advocate against that.  She should probably just stick to what she knows than try and stretch herself to cover a lot of things she isn't as comfortable with.

I don't have anything against Bloomberg, and I've stated my affinity for Warren, but at this point, I don't know how much I'd trust someone who avoided all the bloody, degrading, humiliating and highly critiqued battles, and swoops in to save the day at the last moment.

And I hate the current election process.

Warren has left wing cred, no obvious skeletons in her closet and is female. She certainly knows more about foreign policy than the Donald, I would probably vote for her, but I'm not sure she could be attractive to many moderates.

For levity, my old elementary school teacher posted this on FB today. I think it is a perfect combination of our Twins talk and the Trump run (with clever mistakes and everything, a la Donald):

"I am running for president of the Minnesota Twins. We don't win anymore. I will make the Twins great again. Remember 1987? Remember 1991? We used to win. We don't win anymore. We make lousy deals. We make really lousy deals. I can make good trades. I've done deals with Pittsburgh. I've done deals with Denver. That deal they did with Denver- trading Cudyer- I was against that deal when it happened. That was a really, really bad deal. That was a horrible deal. I would never have done that deal. And we give up too many home runs. People make fun of the number of home runs we give up. It's really, really bad. So I'm gonna build a wall. I'm going to build a beautiful wall. It's going to be a huge wall, and Chicago and Kansas City players aren't going to hit balls over my wall. But our players, the Twins players, they'll hit the ball over this wall. Because I'm going to make good deals and this is going to be a beautiful wall. And no Toronto players will ever hit a ball over this wall. And when the Yankees and Red Sox come, well, the wall just got 10 feet higher. And we're gonna have Hispanics and Cubans- they love me, by the way- they really, really love me- I don't know why, but I was in Florida, and we have a lot of problems. A Lot Of Problems. I mean, we don't win anymore. But I'm gonna make the Twins great again. We don't win anymore. But I can do a very, very good job. Nobody can do the job like me. I'm the only one that can do this. And you know, I'll tell you this: Kansas City is doing very very bad things. They are using pitchers that we can't hit. It's so, so unfair. It's so unfair. I'm gonna do a deal with Kansas City. I do lots of deals with the Royals. I call them the Royals. I deal with them all the time. And you know what? They owe us runs. They owe us lots and lots of runs. They are killing us, when it comes to runs. I'm gonna do this deal where they don't get anymore runs. Cuz I do really, really good deals and Kansas City won't get any runs when I'm the Twins' president. And the fans aren't going to pay for the wall. No. I'm gonna make the Royals pay for the wall. Cuz they owe us runs. Trust me. We have a runs deficit. They owe us. They'll pay for the wall. And if any of the teams don't want to deal, we have to be able to walk. And if an umpire calls a Twin 'out'- NO! We're not out. We walk. We get on base. All the Twins get on base. Twins' fans are going to win, and win and win, and we're gonna be tired of winning. We're going to get sick of winning. I would say that we're going to be very, very full of winning. Very very full. Of winning. And, did I say I love the Hispanics? You've seen the polls. The Hispanics want to play in Minnesota. And they will love the wall. They'll really, really love the wall. And the Twins aren't going to pay for this beautiful wall. The Royals will pay for the wall. Oh yeah? Well, it just got ten feet taller."

I think that Warren is likely to run in 2020, unless Hillary wins the general.  I also think that Hillary would be very wise to consider Warren as a running mate.

Two liberal, East Coast women on the same ticket? They are too much the same in the eyes of the voters. Heck, they are too much the same in my eyes, and I know their differences. I want Warren and Sanders poised to fight in the Senate when the Dems take it back. In 4 years Warren will be 71. If she were interested in running for president, I think she'd have run this time. I don't think she truly has any interest even though there are many who would have liked it.

I'm not sure two women are electable on a ticket in 2016, I already see a lot of sexism with a lot of the Hilary criticism already. Warren also is no spring chicken herself, Hilary needs to pick a young up and comer that would be a great potential choice for 2024. Fresh blood is sorely needed IMO

Bernie pays no player more than the MLB minimum, but also pays ticket takers and peanut vendors the same MLB minimum. Every seat in the stadium is priced at one hour's pay, but it takes 6 months to get tickets while your income is verified.

Cruz immediately fires the analytics staff and replaces them with VP of Prayer-based Revelation Franklin Graham.

Kasich sells out all of the games against the Indians and the Reds, but only 500 people show up for all of the others.

Hillary more or less follows the policies of the Pohlad administration, hires proven old baseball men and young Turks, and the team wins a few more division titles, but loses half of its fan base when the Koch brothers convince them it is in their best interest to root for the Yankees.

Contested convention....who is your money on?

I'm going Cruz.

Vegas has the money on Trump, and I think for good reason.

If Trump goes into the convention with the most delegates, and more importantly significantly more "votes" then the other candidates, I don't see how you can "steal" the nomination from him and effectively keep the party together.

If they do steal it, then Trump goes scorched earth, runs third party (splits the GOP as a whole) and not only gives the Dems a landslide in the POTUS race, but could tip the scales in several house/senate seats as well.

Posted

I highly, highly doubt that Elizabeth Warren wants anything to do with being Hillary Clinton's running mate.

Again, Warren and Sanders on one hand, and Clinton and most other Democrats on the other, is a difference in *kind* not *degree*.

Posted

With regard to Trump and the GOP, the smartest thing they can do is run some more well-known guy in the Constitution party to make sure Trump doesn't win the election and actually lead the party. Then they can re-brand for 2020, while just dealing with Clinton (who they will admire on foreign policy anyway).
