Let me get my bragging out of the way. Pomi Casselmaggiore, My kids team, tied the championship series, (best of 5), today, and baby girl kicked some major ass.

Was that the same friendly Turkish man I was talking to??!

How about this:

What’s up with up?

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is up.

It's easy to understand up, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake up?  At a meeting, why does a topic come up?  Why do we speak up, and why are the officers up for election, and why is it up to the secretary to write up a report?

We call up our friends, brighten up a room, polish up the silver, warm up the leftovers, and clean up the kitchen.  We lock up the house, and some guys fix up the old car.

At other times this little word has other meanings.  People stir up trouble, line up for tickets, work up an appetite, and think up excuses.  To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed up is special.

And this up can be confusing:  A drain must be opened up because it is stopped up.  We open up a store in the morning, but we close it up at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed up about up!  To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of up, look it up in the dictionary.  In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes up almost one fourth of the page and can have up to about thirty definitions.  If you are up to it, you might try building up a list of the many ways up is used.  It will take up a lot of your time, but if you don’t give up, you may wind up with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding up, but when the sun comes out, we say it’s clearing up.  When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things up.  When it doesn’t rain for a while, things dry up.  One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it up now.  My time is up, so it’s time to shut up!

This made me throw up! :)

One thing a TD moderator might do is keep his radar up for copyright. I looked up the reference and it's up on the Internet as a book written up by Charlie Walker.

Just trying to keep the standards up, here.

You! Scaring me like that! That really shook me up at first.

I agree. I was not worried about that copyright thingy, I can copy very well. (I got through school that way). It was the part about standards that bothered me!

BTW, in that book, I may have found the mother lode. Sample:

Chinese Proverb: Man who stand on toilet is high on pot.

The short fortune-teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large.

Possibly we have finally located the long-theorized source of much of Riverbrian's game thread starters.

You certainly did. My sister is always calling me Sherlock for things I say randomly, so I think that's a pretty good recommendation for my discerning powers to back up the point I'm going to make. I am never original. Even if I think of something myself, I always find out sooner or later that it's been thought of by somebody else before. I never try to be original anymore. People usually don't know the difference. Now, based on my experiences, I've assumed as long as I knew of him that Brian is the same. I mean, I have very good reason to believe that everybody thinks alike in some ways at least. That's how you solve crimes in mystery novels. ;)

Are you trying to tell me that the score is now TWELVE to nothing?!

FTFY.

What does this mean? I find that I get lost so terribly often on here. It's like I speak a different language. Am I the only one? I hope not...though that might not be very nice.

One can take credit for recognizing and sharing quality of preexistant material, as well as in original use of said material. True, there is so very much of it.

And One can tell the original by the beard. One learned this by watching city of lost children...

But it is also good to exercise One's originality chops every once in a while.

Meh, One must now hope Twins can come back from a One run deficit.

Mauer's bat looks slow. Struck out on a fastball like he also did last night. Hope that's not the beginning of a trend.

Well, if I must exercise my originality - well, here's a thought provoking question for ya'll:

Take a boy-crazy girl and a girl-crazy boy. Are they total opposites or exact equals?

I believe from the original Sanskrit it translates as "Please fill out this form in triplicate."

Total Opposites

If they were exact equals... I wouldn't get yelled at by my wife for the stuff that I do.
