Twins 2012 All Star?

Who will be the player named to the All Star game this year? I am drawing a blank on who actually deserves to be an All Star. Ryan Doumit has been playing pretty good lately but he is not worthy of the honor.

Mauer leads all MLB catchers in OBP and is pretty close in OPS. Give him some time and he could be there. Yes. Willingham is the Twins' best player and the AL's second best OF as far as OPS goes (behind Hamilton) he belongs there. As far as pitching goes, it is way too early, and the sample is way too small, but Scott Diamond leads the AL in FIP. Give him 3-4 more games like those and there is no way they do not bring him there.

LOL, all-star selections are never based on a pitchers FIP. But yes, if he does pitch another 3-4 shut outs in a row I imagine he would be included...

Could this be the team that actually convinces MLB to change their policy and just admit that sometimes a franchise doesn't deserve representation in a game featuring the best (or at least most popular) players?

Willingham without a doubt. It would be his first appearance. I'm surprised he didn't make it last year. Who was the A's representative? Jemile Weeks??

Never mind it was Gio Gonzalez, who is pitching out of his mind with the Nationals.

Willingham has earned it. Doumit is starting to make a case for himself as well.

I would expect that Mauer is going to get a ton of votes regardless of performance, but if he goes on a little hot streak, he could actually earn his spot.

Willingham right now. Catcher in the AL is a little tougher - Weiters should be the starter but Napoli, Mauer and Santana are all in the hunt for probably only one spot.

Yep this is the team that'll do it. Not any of that decade's worth of Tigers teams. Not that quarter century of Pirates teams. This one. It's just that exceptionally bad.

I'd like to nominate Marquis to pitch the Home Run Derby.

But seriously, Willingham is the logical choice unless Diamond or Dozier continue to play extremely well.

Dozier would be a tough call, especially compared to other short stops around the AL. I hate to even say the name, but I'm pretty sure that Jeter has that starting position at the all star game locked up. Assuming that he doesn't turn down the invitation.

Right now it's Willingham in the lead, and it's not even that close.

Still, a lot can happen in a month. If he cools off and Mauer gets hot, it will be Mauer. If he cools off and Mauer stays cool, Span could sneak in if he goes on a tear.

I have a hard time seeing anyone besides one of those 3, something pretty ridiculous would have to happen. (Like all 3 get hurt or Diamond pitches a bunch more scoreless outings.)

But seriously

"But seriously"? What do you mean? He'd be great!

Actually, Doumit wouldn't be a bad choice. 22 RBI's & 5 HR and his average is climbing - he'd be a better choice at catcher than Mauer.

I guess I was thinking the batters in the HR hitting contest get to choose who throws batting practice to them and usually go with a coach in their organization. But come to think of it, they might just pick Marquis.

Also, about Dozier, rookies often have the inside track on the final selections if there's no one substantially ahead of the pack.

It will be Matt Lawton and his messed up equilibrium. Or it could be either Willie Banks or Pat Maholmes if they get hot.

Very nice. I was going to say Capps, but I was afraid someone might think I was serious.
