DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Just saw an ad on espn for the home run derby, it had dozier as one of the 10 or so players hitting a home run in it. Did espn and mlb tip their hand early before the announcement? Would be cool to see dozier in the derby, after missing out on the all star game it would be nice to see him be a part of the all star week in Minnesota.
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I think they usually try to include a player from the home team, right? Mauer was one of the suggested derby candidates listed on the all star ballot, I suspect for that very reason. Dozier's got good HR numbers and I'd root for him, but I don't think he's the derby type. (And no hair/hat jokes, please ) Willingham would probably be a better choice if you want a good showing. Too bad Arcia is all out of whack, he would be fun to watch.
iTwins Verified Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Assuming he doesn't crack his way onto the ASG roster as a replacement, I'd love to see Dozier get some of the ASG spotlight via the home run derby. Watching him drill high & tight fastballs into the LF bleachers would be a blast. Arcia is an acceptable Twins representative too - though I'd doubt he's anywhere near the list of names being tossed around.

Jeremy Nygaard Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Bautista was on MLB Network Radio and led the host to tweet that he believed that JoeyBats was leaning towards a Dozier inclusion.

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 No no no. Screws to many guys up imo.
Bark's Lounge Verified Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I'd be very pleased if Dozier gets into the HR Derby. We will not see any 470ft shots to CF, RF, LCF or RCF, but it's all about volume and not "Shock and Awe". I think he would be successful at poking them out to LF at a decent clip.
DaveW Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 I have a feeling the guys who are participating already know. The all star game is now a week away, I imagine they want guys to know before the very last second so they can coordinate players going, families etc
ScottyB Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 If they're looking for shock & awe Arcia's the guy. But I do tend to agree that it screws guys up (although Arcia is screwed up now anyway, so maybe it would help him.)
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 No No No! Dozier doesn't need anything to mess with his .230 average!
Reider Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 It would be nice to see Dozier in the HR derby. He has earned it. At the same time, I don't think Willingham or Arcia would be terrible candidates either.
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Rhett Bollinger @RhettBollinger 3m Brian Dozier will represent the #MNTwins in the Home Run Derby at Target Field on Monday. Please don't let this screw you up, Brian. Congrats!
JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 OOPS! Forgot there was a thread on Dozier in the Derby with a ? Should have posted this there but once I hit post I couldn't figure out how to delete! Anyway, Good luck to Brian Dozier.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He's earned it? Not in my lifetime he hasn't. I don't think it's right, but then, it's just a show anyway.
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He could have Nolasco pitch to him Unfortunately we have strict pitch counts so Dozier would get no more than 95.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 It's official. Dozier has been named to the HR Derby. I think it's great. Fun for him. Very cool also that he has said that he will have his brother pitch to him.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Well, gives me reason to watch the derby then.
SydneyTwinsFan Verified Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 What are the chances of getting his brother to wear a "Bull Dozier" t-shirt while pitching to him?
Gernzy Verified Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 What are the chances of getting his brother to wear a "Bull Dozier" t-shirt while pitching to him? He will wear an all start jersey just like Dozier, but if we could get him to wear one under that...
Kirby_waved_at_me Verified Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Neat. good for him! No Morneau, though, that is pretty dumb. Hope he's the "additional 5th Member" of the NL Derby Lineup.

JB_Iowa Verified Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Yes, Morneau absolutely needs to be in this all star game in some way. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2014/fv/ballot.jsp?tcid=ASG14_final-vote_news-articles OR Text N2 to 89269 #VOTEMORNEAU I rarely bother much with the ASG voting but between the Rockies, the Twins, the Indians, Canada and general sentiment, Morneau can win the FINAL VOTE. Amazing how many votes you can cast in 5 or 10 minutes. Just leave a browser open to the ballot and vote a few times when you get a chance.
James Verified Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Yes, Morneau absolutely needs to be in this all star game in some way.Agreed. He even said that he would be willing to participate in the HR derby as well. I actually have put in a bunch of votes for him online, which is something I don't normally do. Congrats to Dozier. I'm going to be at the derby, and I hope to see a lot of dingers from Dozier. #VoteMorneau
