  1. I know Santana is declining, but last year he still made me nervous when he batted against the Twins with men on base. There are deep scars there. I really hope he has a little something left in the tank, and I'm betting he does. Whether he does or doesn't, I really hope Kirilloff can stay healthy and become the primary first baseman.
  2. Woods-Richardson was dealing. So of course Rocco pulled him. Typical. Why can't these guys pitch at least seven innings these days? {sarcasm font}
  3. Wow. I wonder what his starting weight was for that 58-pound loss. Yikes.
  4. Either that, or he can stay with the Cubs and make another $30 million. Two good options.
  5. 1st year 30, 2nd year 30, 3rd year 20, opt-outs after first and second years.
  6. I think the role he should play is an Angel, Giant, or Padre.
  7. Not a comment on today's performance, of course, but i wonder how many more at-bats Sabato is going to get this spring. Not many, that's my guess.
  8. Personally, I'd like to see him play the role of an Angel, Padre, or Giant.
  9. OK, I don't want Bauer at all, but realistically he's going to have an even better stat line if he never has to face Kepler again. So that's something.
  10. I could describe how to get to the bar, but the thing is, you'll never see it coming.
  11. I've been secretly cheering for Montgomery all winter. Totally agree with you- seems like the guy with the lowest variance. Of course that probably means a piano or safe from Acme Movers will fall out of the sky and land on him, but at least we'd have a story worth telling.
  12. I find myself wondering how we got this guy in the fourth round. What am I missing, other than he doesn't throw in the mid-90s? Is that the only obvious lack compared to other draftees of the same age?
  13. zero risk? I'm having a hard time understanding that.
  14. Expecting the Twins to draft in the bottom four, so unlikely to get an elite player!
  15. Martin over Gordon. I am 100% in on that.
  16. I don't think spending $32 million for two years of Michael Wacha (ages 34 and 35) is all that commendable, personally, but you can tell me in two years how that worked out. Although compared to $45 million for three years of Seth Lugo (ages 34, 35, and 36)...
  17. 2015, according to mlb.com One headline from last week calls him a 30-30 prospect. Either they are talking about owning a lever-action deer rifle, or I'm betting the under. He did have a 30-30 year, but it was Salt Lake City in the PCL. The league average OPS was .822. He was the Angels' 26th ranked prospect when they traded him to Houston. I saw him hit a home run when he played with the Kernels- just crushed a line drive. Good luck to him.
  18. Joe was the one with the tool belt that he wore on a talk show after his suspension (Letterman?).
  19. Oh, please let it be so.
  20. That is just a way of going for more of those crowd-pleasing double plays. Gotta keep the fans happy. It's a feature, not a bug.
  21. Somehow I'm not sold on the idea of trading Lee for two years of that. I'm not opposed to trading him, but I'd need a better marketing brochure from the trade partner.
  22. Agreed. But that's where the whole money thing comes in. I completely agree that it is both possible and desirable to have a better pitching staff than what they currently have. But what they have is pretty good, and might be really good in a playoff where you rely on 3 guys, maybe 4. Do I want to give up a few really good position players who could help us this year to get one better pitcher? Mahle has scarred me. I don't think I'm desperate enough to do that.
  23. I'm betting that at least one of Ryan/Ober is better than Gray is this year, maybe both. Maybe Paddack as well. Will they be better than Gray last year? I don't know, but this offense could be a lot better.
  24. I don't get all the drama about DeSclafani. He's not great, or maybe even good, I get it. Will he cost the Twins the division? Only if a lot of other things go wrong as well. How many fifth starters do anything except mop up in the playoffs? The Sarris pitcher rankings in the Athletic, which I think I have been mentioned elsewhere on this site, put Lopez at #12, Ryan at #40, Ober in the mid-40s, and Paddack around #65. Do I want Snell for 120 innings, maybe the playoffs but maybe not, for $30 million? Sure, if money were free, but it turns out it isn't. It would be great to have Verlander and Scherzer pitching in the playoffs. That's what the Rangers thought too, except Scherzer couldn't pitch. Neither could DeGrom. They did all right anyway. Let's play ball.
