    I know (or I think) you are joking, but I was telling this to a friend the other day. My wife of 36 years overheard, and this morning she said that she hoped I would start cheering for the Brewers because her life would get a lot happier.

    The Pohlads and this kind of approach have just beaten me down. I'm seriously thinking of trying to forget the Twins, the girl I always loved who hasn't loved me back in 20+ years. In fact, she makes fun of me by telling me she'll go out with me but never actually doing it. Time to find a small-market team that is actually working. Go Brewers! But we all know I will come crawling back the next time the Twins smile at me with a potentially good trade or a, gasp, mid-level FA signing. Then I will get stepped on again.

    I'm not sure I will go for a 10-year career, but if the bet is "he'll be out of baseball in two years", sign me up for the over. No question.

    True, I didn't randomly pick that sample. I was just providing more context to the 8 scoreless innings that started all this. Look at the whole year if you like. His ERA is 5.16, his WHIP is the same as it was in those 8 innings. His K rate is better for the full year than it was for those 8 innings. My point was, those 8 innings don't tell us much positive except he didn't give up a run. Pick any smaller sample you like to show me he's great, that's fine.

    Putting on my Travis Adams Skeptic hat... 8 IP, 0 runs ERA = 0.00 that's good 5 H, 6 BB, 5 K WHIP = 1.375, K/BB = 0.83, K/9 = 0.625 that's less good I'm still not convinced, but he had a good outing last night (against a team without much offense).

    Just noticed that former Twin LaMonte Wade Jr. was called up by the Astros. Good luck to him, as long as he doesn't help them win a wild card spot.

    Henry Mendez for Bader's expiring contract looks pretty good. Garrett Horn for Coulombe's expiring contract too. Two pitchers for Castro's expiring contract. Jiminez for Dobnack and Paddack. Right now we could get any of those guys back for nothing or almost nothing. Wouldn't you characterize those as smart trades?

    Right, because all good pitchers who come up with the Twins continue to get re-signed and spend their entire productive careers with the Twins...trying to think of one...nope, I'm pretty sure that just doesn't happen.

    For those of you who enjoy beating dead horses, I'd like to suggest you drop Varland and start 5 threads on how letting the Yankees pick up Brent Headrick (2026 stats- 1.8 WAR, 4-1 record, 1.45 ERA, 2.65 FIP, 41 IP, 47 Ks, 16 BBs, 1.131 WHIP) on waivers was the dumbest mistake ever, because it was huge. Just don't start in on Lecroy/Ortiz again, please.

Travis Adams looked poised to blow this game from the moment he took the mound. You said he retired the first five batters he faced? He walked two of the first five, not including a terrible call to prevent a walk to the sixth hitter.. 8th inning #8 batter: started with a wild pitch Caratini couldn't even touch. Second pitch was over 2" high (inexplicably called a strike, overturned on appeal). Third pitch was at least a foot outside. Fourth pitch was clearly outside, but called a strike. Fifth pitch was an actual strike. Sixth pitch was a foot outside. #9 batter: strike one, a hard-hit foul, a pitch several inches outside, then a line drive hit right to the first baseman for an easy double play. Well-hit ball, very fortunate outcome. #1 batter: Altuve flies out on a high strike. 9th inning #2 batter: strike one, strike two, bounced one a foot in front of the plate, Alvarez grounded out. #3 batter: swung and missed at ball one, then three straight balls (two not close), then ball four. #4 batter: got down 0-2, then a pitch way outside, fouled a pitch off, pitch in the dirt in front of and a foot outside the plate, another pitch just off the ground, then a foul, Then a pitch that was clearly high, but called strike three and no challenge allowed. #5 batter: strike one, ball one, ball two nearly hit the batter in the foot, threw ball three a few inches off the ground, fouled back a 3-1 pitch down the middle, Then he gave up a rocket of a home run. So in real life, he walked 3 of the first 6 hitters he faced, then he threw a gopher ball.

    Adams has to go. And not come back. This is absolutely ridiculous. He has no business being on a major league team. Even one with pitching this bad.

    If he thought the first DFA was a bad decision, the second one might have thrown a little cold water on any bad feelings. Hopefully he decides he'd still like to try and be a major league pitcher someday. He'll need to go to whomever makes an offer and is likely to give him another shot in the majors. Not sure who offers more opportunity than the New-Pitcher-Of-The-Week Twins.
