    The Yankees traded four players for Frankie Montas and Lou Trevino. They got 41 bad innings from Montas over two years. They got 21 innings from Trivino in 2022, and he's been out since and is still out (elbow injury). The story goes on and on. Why assume that only the Twins trade for injured pitchers? Successful trades for pitchers have also become a pattern, as mentioned by a prior post. Which is the true pattern? Or maybe it's just risky to trade for pitchers.

    The Twins payroll is lower because they know Buck is going to hit all those incentives. Wouldn't that be nice? MVP, 600 plate appearances, that's another $10 million. Win/win!

    I know Santana is declining, but last year he still made me nervous when he batted against the Twins with men on base. There are deep scars there. I really hope he has a little something left in the tank, and I'm betting he does. Whether he does or doesn't, I really hope Kirilloff can stay healthy and become the primary first baseman.

    Not a comment on today's performance, of course, but i wonder how many more at-bats Sabato is going to get this spring. Not many, that's my guess.

    OK, I don't want Bauer at all, but realistically he's going to have an even better stat line if he never has to face Kepler again. So that's something.

    I've been secretly cheering for Montgomery all winter. Totally agree with you- seems like the guy with the lowest variance. Of course that probably means a piano or safe from Acme Movers will fall out of the sky and land on him, but at least we'd have a story worth telling.

    I find myself wondering how we got this guy in the fourth round. What am I missing, other than he doesn't throw in the mid-90s? Is that the only obvious lack compared to other draftees of the same age?

    I don't think spending $32 million for two years of Michael Wacha (ages 34 and 35) is all that commendable, personally, but you can tell me in two years how that worked out. Although compared to $45 million for three years of Seth Lugo (ages 34, 35, and 36)...

    2015, according to mlb.com One headline from last week calls him a 30-30 prospect. Either they are talking about owning a lever-action deer rifle, or I'm betting the under. He did have a 30-30 year, but it was Salt Lake City in the PCL. The league average OPS was .822. He was the Angels' 26th ranked prospect when they traded him to Houston. I saw him hit a home run when he played with the Kernels- just crushed a line drive. Good luck to him.

    That is just a way of going for more of those crowd-pleasing double plays. Gotta keep the fans happy. It's a feature, not a bug.
