  1. Exactly - no scouting report on “the sweeper” after only using it in 2 starts. Much easier to be effective. Still, I’m sure it will remain to be a good pitch for López and the increase in velocity is intriguing! Best of luck making us think this trade was one, Won by the Twins, so far so good. Hope Luis keeps having great success as well!
  2. I don’t understand all the angst about transparency? If the guy can play he’ll play to help the Team win games. If they are nicked up or are having back spasms or whatever, it’s an issue. Players play when they are able! What more do fans want & why? The only rational reasons to be bothered by the injury report every day is because one is playing fantasy & needs to know what moves to make, one is betting the games and needs to know the level of health for every guy in & out of the line-up, or one is suffering from some Control Disorder. …….,right? At some point the fans have to believe or assume the FO - Manager - Players are all trying to win games as best they can. No idiots involved & no conspiracy.
  3. He’s prone to injury - knew that when we extended him. He’s averaged playing in 46% of games over 7 of his 8 seasons. This year he’s batting around .340 and has been in the line-up 9 of 10 games. How are we wasting the DH spot? …….he’s specifically helped us win at least 3 games! Taylor is ever bit as good of a CF - not as good looking as an athlete compared to Buck but he can play CF. ……..He really should be an emergency back-up v. RH pitching & he should start all 40 (roughly) starts v. LH pitching. Our problem is Polanco is hurt …..,,when he comes back, Gordon will play CF v. RH pitching and our offense will be fine. L Buxton will still play CF 40-50 games & will be ready a needed for playoffs. We need his bat!! Other guys can catch fly balls as well - might not look as flashy/entertaining but they’re still outs.
  4. He’s moving the ball, within the zone, all around the periphery. Good velocity. 3-4 pitches with command. Looks loose. Hope he can keep having fun and succeeding! I wanted him moved over winter, am very encouraged after seeing him throw 3 times.
  5. Thielbar - Pagan, early or late if big lead - Alcala - I doubt Duran - maybe López? Can Mahle get through 6?
  6. Never happen. We’d be 2 bad outings by starters away from Chaos! We don’t need to have more everyday players - just need to make decisions and not 2nd guess them after every game. “Gallo never should have been signed” - now he’s 30% of the fans favorite player. Helped win 3 games. “Buxton must play OF and has zero value only with his bat” - he’s started 7 of 8 games & pinch hit in the other & is having best start of career at plate. Helped win 3-4 games. “Solano & Farmer shouldn’t be on roster”….. “Julien & anybody should be playing in their spot - need to quit blocking youth” - Farmer has helped win 2-3 games & Solano has been solid in his role. No mistakes! IMO: Kepler sucks at the plate - don’t see him getting markedly better - the decision though, was to give him another look this season so I say, “Go Max”……….personally hoping he can’t play for quite a while but if he’s on roster it’s, “Go Max”! Can complain every day, but we’re 6-2 with 8 good starts from rotation………Jorge López looks fixed………when Polanco is back & Gordon can play CF v. RH pitching & we’ll be laughing.
  7. Through 8 games Larnach is the best day in, day out hotter on the team! Should have 2 more walks on poor calls he got struck out looking on as well.
  8. Highest paid…….& after the “pressure cooker” of NY & LA last year & the subsequent mental collapse to .160 BA and less than 20 HR, I can’t imagine much of a market. If he has 20 dingers by the All-Star break he’s not going anywhere. No forward control either……doubtful trade bait. Walner or the like are much more probable if we want quality in return.
  9. When Polanco is back at 2B they have a bunch of guys v. RH pitching: Gallo/Kiriloff at 1B Gordon in CF Larnach in LF Kepler/Walner in RF Couple guys above won’t all fit on roster…… one thing of those guys will DH Catcher - SS - 3B are RH hitters 100% of our games.
  10. Buxton DH’s against all LH pitching so Taylor can play CF……..the other DH (v. RH pitching) opportunities will go to Larnach - Gallo - Walner - Gordon depending upon health & who they choose to play OF. If Kiriloff can’t play, I’d like to see Julien up in May to play 1B.
  11. Gordon has played 6 games and only half in 4 of those. He hit .289 - 8 HR - 28 doubles after April last year. No reason to bail on Nick 7 games into the year. Doesn’t need to play v. LH pitching. Polanco for Castro is simple. Kiriloff staying down after becoming healthy is highest probability. Doesn’t make sense to bring him up & hope he hits well when Larnach is already shining. After May, Larnach’s health & consistency will be proven or not. If he looks good & Kiriloff is ready to go we’ll cut Solano by June 1……,,maybe a case by then to let Kepler go instead but $9M & depth is tough to cut. Miranda can play 1B v. LH pitching! Our record and general health will determine the actions! An aside, really excited for Lee/Julien at 2B - Kiriloff at 1B - Larnach in LF - Walner in RF - Gordon in CF, next year v. RH pitching!!
  12. 13K’s - 7.0 innings - 1 run……nice 2nd outing for Sonny. 1 run through 12 innings. The entire rotation has looked fantastic! Let’s check back in Memorial Day.
  13. You can’t Wish Win games…….Alcantara & Luzardo are two of the top 15 pitchers in the game. Luzardo is less known (young) but probably has better stuff than his Cy Young winning teammate………we got 11 hits yesterday in game 7 and won a thriller v. the defending World Series champs. We’ll be just fine if we keep pitching anywhere close to the first 7 games!
  14. “Sano like”…..come on. It’s the 7th game of 162….take a breath. We had 11 hits…..40 AB’s… .275 Avg. The defending Champions had 5 hits. It was 52F…..we’ll be OK. Our veteran starting 2B isn’t playing - neither is our assumed, solid bat, starting 1B.
  15. Miranda 3 hits with Solano behind him……Solano 2 hits……..Farmer 2 hits. Nothing wrong with that picture!
  16. I guess not worrying about having an ACE is OK if you have 6 or 7 “2,3, & 4’s”. 1.08 goes up a tick after Sonny’s - 13K - 1 run outing through 7. Great outing!
  17. Can’t get back quick enough Jorge!! Good luck. When can Julien come up to Big Club without us losing a year of control on the back end?
  18. What are the rules/dates involved on timing of bringing guys up the first time - relative to loss of a year of control? Not sure if I’m making sense? Anyway, I thought they may put Kepler on the IL and give Julien a shot at 1B or DH for a couple weeks. Maybe not possible?
  19. Don’t understand the, Farmer isn’t a good reserve infielder comment? What multi-position reserves are better than him in the American League? He had a .900 plus OPS last year v. LH pitching……..Taylor is better than average v. LH pitching…..can’t stand watching him play every day - agreed.
  20. Not that much of a head scratcher since we’ve faced 5 RH starters. He’s replacing Kiriloff’s bat v. RH pitching. We have a surplus of left handed bats for corner OF. We got Gallo because of his power potential and his defensive flexibility. We need as many LH bats in line-up as possible v. RH pitching. Larnach is hitting the cover off the ball. Larnach can catch fly balls. Don’t understand the angst with what the ball club has decided to do?
  21. Through 6 games, we lack the depth in the line-up v. RH pitching w/o Polanco & Kiriloff. Can’t have Castro & Taylor coming up in RBI situations v. RH pitching - won’t work! I think that is a talent issue & not a confidence issue. The 4 guys you mention along with Polanco, Kiriloff (or Julien) & Gordon & Gallo will lift our talent through the line-up to generate more runs. Jeffers - Farmer - Taylor will be great v. RH pitching. Right now we are light on lefty hitters, particularly with Kepler & Gallo in the mix & with Gordon not heated up yet. Castro & probably Solano have to go in the interest of raising the talent pool.
  22. Finally, after only 6 games, some comments that aren’t all doom & gloom. As you state we’re 4-2 & I’m pretty sure these wins count just as much as if we beat the Yankees. Alcantara & Luzardo may be better than any one/two in Baseball. Kiriloff returns to the line-up & pushes Gallo into OF. Polanco returns to the line-up & pushes Gordon into OF. These moves remove Taylor & Kepler or Gallo from the line-up daily. They also displace Castro & probably Solano from the roster. Kiriloff - Larnach - CC - Buxton - Gordon - both Catchers - Miranda - Polanco - Gallo - Farmer……..this group on the field regularly will put runs up! Our pitching, while only having faced lesser opponents, looks sharp with some grinding from Gray. Mahle pitched the way he does normally, nibbles too much and gets behind & throws too many pitches per inning. Get used to it from someone in Cincinnati. Thielbar made a mistake on the homer - otherwise he’s been fine. Pen has been good $ to date & looks promising!
  23. Agreed! Can’t worry about guys not on your team any longer - waste of energy. Success in 12 AB’s or in Spring Training isn’t a lot different than a lack of success (Mahle’s Spring) over action that is essentially, practice. Was Steer going to displace Miranda at 3rd in future? Other kid was in A ball. We got a #2 starter that we can try to re-sign/extend if we like. If we’re winning & play-off bound this extension becomes more likely during the season. I live in Cincinnati & nobody is drooling over the acquisitions from the Twins. Maybe someday?
  24. Hard to figure out how Gallo just swallows up every pitch over the inside third of the plate the last two days - has one of the best walk rates in the game - and then looks so undisciplined when swinging and missing at pitches out of the zone, down. Seems there has to be some coaching that could help narrow his visual focus on pitches that are above his knees, particularly with his 6’5” frame? I get he’s working on getting better. He looks like Barry Bonds when he makes contact……..25% of pitches put into play is just unbelievably low……hope he can change!
