    I’m not as enthusiastic as most here about this list. A bunch of college guys between 22-24 having “good” seasons at A ball or even AA isn’t really spectacular. They should be performing well at those levels. We will see as they start to move up.

    Agreed. I just think it’s unexpected. Phoenix is number two.

    Ryan did not look that good. When you have two other choices for that 3rd spot it makes for a really tough decision as there is no longer any margin for error. I just hope the pitching plan is based on what is happening now not from an analytics plan derived over really large samples.

    At this point I would have Stewart as a primary set up go over Jax. Also Floro has been dfad which doesn’t lend credibility to the article.

    I believe framing is a thing (back in the old days it was called soft hands or being a good receiver). What I don’t believe is that it is quantifiable. It’s probably more important than ever with some of the absolute horse crap home plate umpiring we see now. I’ll take the extra oomph in Jeffers bat and only start Vasquez to give him a break.

    I get your point but I think the question is very different for Lee compared to Martin. Martin has had some success at AAA which as you point out all he can do. Lee has not to date and isn’t worth burning the 40 man spot and option.

    As noted above it will be very interesting to see how far they let the starters go. The rotation is this team’s greatest strength and the bullpen its biggest weakness. I hope they have faith in the starters.

    This rotation is historically strong. It likely means we will be in every game and might even steal one of Lopez twirls a gem. We will see if we can score some runs. I also think it will be interesting to watch our new bullpen and how guys like Varland and Paddack are used compared to Jax and Pagan.

    I think there is a decent chance Lewis is your CF next year. Problem solved. Julien dh and I’m not worried about Martin or Gordon. They can fit in wherever. Build your lineup by putting yours studs at their best defensive positions and fill in the rest.

    Like always it seems with this FO I see this as a mixed bag. If we are talking about strictly the trade deadline then I guess they were right. On the other hand it took 3 rookies coming up and firing right out of the gate to rescue the poor lineup of the first have. I would say that’s damn lucky but then again they drafted and developed those three rookies. With better management in the off season we wouldn’t even be asking the question.

    I bet it will be third base with Royce playing second or CF.

    Congratulations to the team and more importantly the fans. I’m going to enjoy this for a day or two and then come back to reality. Which is we slid into the easiest playoff spot possible. Enjoy the playoffs and then expect our FO to do substantially better next year.

    There is a reason to doubt every prospect. They are all suspects until they are not.

    Has to be Gray or Lopez. Castro has been great in his role. If I was giving it to a position player it would be Jeffers. I can’t believe I am saying this because the guy drove me nuts last year. His improvement this year is nothing short of remarkable.

    I think the biggest factor was Joe had been swinging like that since he was 5. Not that easy to change after all those years especially because it served him very well until analytics exposed his patterns

    I think it is still an open question or at least it should be. All three have been effective at times and not effective during some stretches. Last night’s game didn’t help this decision. And Keuchel isn’t even going to make the first round playoff roster.

    The Sox are kind of screwed. Aging roster that isn’t cheap and some decisions to make (which they haven’t been good at). Tim Anderson is a free agent but is 31 and not reliable. Sox almost have to sign him given the fee agent class next year. Does make you feel good about the state of the Twins.

    I would make sure he has a complete rest day every other day. The bat is coming around but he has had a couple plays in the field that looked really lifeless. Kepler too - I think he could use a rest.

    After Duran he is really the most reliable reliever they have. Hard to believe he is still arb eligible.

    I know Varland wants to be a starter and I don’t blame him but…….wouldn’t it be nice to bring a guy out of the bullpen that throw the hell out of the ball for 3 innings?

    Yea I wasn’t implying they are similar ball players rather I would trade Julien for similar reasons. Both players have a thing or things they do extremely well but also have serious weaknesses. I feel like Arreazs trade value was higher than his real value. I think the case might be the same for Julien. Of course I have no idea what other GMs would be willing to give up for Julien so we will never know.

    Loved the trade at the time and would do it again in a heartbeat. That we got two prospects thrown in really helps. I enjoyed watching Arreaz sprinkling hits all over the field. But that’s it - can’t hit for power can’t run and below average in the field. For similar reasons I would trade high on Julien.
