  1. This 2019 mentality of lofting the ball & swinging for the fences has to go! Rocco said as much when he recently lamented that they just can't string hits together. When will the players wake up and start tracking the pitch and barreling up line drives?? The starting pitching is definitely there. The bullpen, when healthy, is solid, but Pagan & Sands have to go. The hitters?? 2022 April & May, Buxton looked other worldly, since then injuries and swinging for the fences have turned him into Joey Gallo. Correa should know better. Polanco needs to get healthy. That pins our hopes on Lewis, Kirrilof, Lanarch, Walner, Kepler doing what Solano is doing. Our 3 utility players group of Solano, Farmer & Castro is one of the best in baseball. But that is what they are supposed to be. It's the starters that Suck!
  2. I would take Snell & Hader in a heartbeat for Polanco & Miranda. We have arguably the best utility player group in the league with Castro, Farmer & Solano. Problem is the starters are always hurt or suck. We have a stud in Lewis, multiple options at 2B and Correa we are stuck with. Lose Kepler & Gallo, bring up Lanarch & Walner and get a good hitting right handed outfielder. If Buxton can't fill that role, he should go on the IR and we trade for a starter there. That will be the best solution we have for offense and a top notch World Series pitching staff!
  3. Hitting coach has to go. Who to replace him with? How about someone who could actually hit for average, contact & power. Molitor is still affiliated and he can teach players how to steal bases as well. IDK if he'd take the job, but he's a no brainer choice!
  4. No. They could have had Hosmer, salary paid for free last year. As good as Goldy is, at 22M, no thanks. The Twins core (Buxton ,Correa, Polanco, Kepler, Gallo) is an unmitigated disaster this season. Frankly, at this point I would dump them ALL! Solano has been our best hitter so far. Go figure. Bring up the youngsters, get some bullpen help and play for the future.
  5. Trading for quality starting pitching is always the way to go, but do to the nature of the game and injuries, also a crapshoot. The Mahle trade is a disaster. Over paying for an unproven Jorge Lopez, also a disaster. I've said it a 100 times, Arreaz is a ONE tool player. Granted if he were here maybe his teammates could have watched and learned and be able to hit 250. But no speed, bad knees, no power and below average fielding made trading him for a potential Ace well worth it. The Twins are actually in the top three for starters going deep into games, so the early hook critique is no longer a valid one. The problem seems to lie with coaching - hitting, pitching, athletic trainers. They miss Wes Johnson. Examples - Miranda - what happened here?? Gallo we k ew would hit about 200, but power and good defense make his prescence tolerable. But Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Vasquez and yes even Correa flailing at the plate and getting Injured goes to coaching. Alcala, Moran, McGill, Lopez ,even Cano - none have developed their potential and all have regressed as a Twin. Also goes to failed coaching. This team has no synergy. The sum of its parts does not exceed its whole, it doesn't even get close. The no name Phillies got to the series last year! Based on talent, they shouldn't have even made the playoffs. Team chemistry did it. Same with the 1987 Twins (85 -77). Maybe so.e magic happens and thus current batch gets in at 85-77 and catches fire. They have the talent, just not the synergy. You couldn't ask for a better group of utility backups in Farmer, Solano, Taylor & Castro - but they are not supposed to be carrying a team. Yet they are arguably our 4 best players so far this year. And yes Buxton needs to play in the field. Will pick up the whole team. DH only is not working. He can't lead the team from the bench. Start there and see what develops.
  6. It's absolutely ridiculous that this teams best hitter is a 35 yr. Old backup utility player (Solano). An excellent starting rotation is being wasted by an imploding bullpen (yet again) and a lineup that can't hit. If you are only batting 250, you had better be hitting 35 HR. This entire lineup is hitting near the Mendoza line and striking out at a record pace. No excuse.
  7. Agreed that a healthy Polanco is a borderline All Star and asset to the Twins. I also don't see anybody in the system capable of pushing him out. Moving on from players too early can also come back to bite you. Since Rosario, we have filled LF with a whole lot of not much. At least Gallo can field the position, but he is costing us 1M more and has a career batting Ave 70 points lower than Rosario. Gallo's two more HR a year does not justify this discrepancy. With a team batting ave barely over 200 and 10K's a game, No wonder we can't score any runs. Unless we come up with an All Star 2B, keep Polanco.
  8. The Twins have a Star SS, his name is Royce Lewis. Ober, Varland, Stewart have saved the pitching staff from imploding. Offensively, the starters have been a mess. Free agents Solano, Castro & Farmer have also saved the day. Once Kiriloff & Lewis settle in, Correa, Buxton and Polanco better pick it up. Moran, Alcala & Jorge Lopez have been Hugh disappointments. Brook Stewart has singlehandedly saved this bullpen from completely imploding. They need Theilbar back & Jax & Lopez sorted out and contributions from Pagan, Moran or Alcala to be a serious contender. Lots of IF's, but the talent and potential are there if the coaching staff can get the job done.
  9. God help us if the Twins take yet another middle infield prospect. It's all about pitching. A power hitting outfielder with speed who can hit for average (5 tool guy, remember them?) Would be the only other option. Lest we forget that every team in baseball passed on Aaron Judge - Twice!
  10. Pagan is the Ron Davis of the 2020's. The team has no faith in him and with Theilbar out and Jax now struggling, the bullpen is in serious trouble. I don't know if Chapman would be the answer, but they need someone reliable. Poor fielding & an atrocious strikeout rate only make matters worse and need to be fixed or this team is going nowhere.
  11. The injuries are mounting and what's left of the bullpenis starting to implode. Baldelli is letting the starters go 7, but even that is not helping. Time to get bullpen help and mandate nobody swings at high fastballs ever again or this season will be a repeat of last year.
  12. First base is indeed The Key for the Twins. They haven't had someone who could hit for average and power since Morneau. When & if Lewis comes back perchance puts up a full season of the sample we saw last year, it will be Carlos who?? They are indeed the "keys" to this team. Then we are just a solid reliever away from making noise in the playoffs. Unfortunately Alcala & Moran have not stepped up.
  13. Seeing as 3 of the 5 pitchers they have traded for recently had known Injury issues and all 3 went under the knife, NO! The Mahle trade was a desperation move for a flawed team that they should have addressed the previous off season. Getting Lopez this year before the season is the way to do things. The only in season pitching moves that should be made are for surprise bullpen arm that can be had for a reasonable price. A move will will need to make this year as Alcala and Moran have been a huge disappointment.
  14. Long gone are the days of the Rickey Henderson types of leadoff hitters. 5 tool players like him just don't exist anymore. Arraez, granted is a great hitter, but that was all he excelled at. I would hope to see Polanco, Gordon or Lewis win that role. Good batting average with decent speed & power
  15. Absolutely sign him! They have traded for 3 other pitchers with known injuries and that didn't stop them Duran's health is fine and so is he! A similar deal to the one discussed above makes absolute sense!!
  16. More depth and mentoring in the minors is fine. But I agree with the others. God help us if he is up here playing, that means the four or five guys ahead of him are hurt. Also agree with if he is tearing up Triple A, trade him.
  17. First base has been a gaping hole for years, in the traditional sense. Kiriloff finally showed potential to change that, but has been sidelined the last two years. Arraez & Miranda are NOT, were not 1B material. Their inexperience at the position showed often and a high average, low power guy is not what a team needs at 1B. Solano as a backup/platoon was an extremely wise move. He hits 300 against LHP, what's not to love? Leave Miranda at 3rd and Gallo in left. The only other guy I'd like to see developed there right now would be Julien. Seems he doesnt really have another position he excels at to begin with, so he may as well learn 1B.
  18. Not an exciting signing, but given that Lewis is out and Kiriloff is unknown it makes sense. Last year was a disaster with all kinds of waiver wire pickups starting games and people playing out of position. We needed someone who can play 1B and it shouldn't be Miranda or Gallo or Arraez.
  19. Too many "IF's" to project much of anything. 1) The starting rotation & the Bullpen should be better, but I'm not sold on either of the Lopez'es yet. 2) Buxton's health. Will this be the year?????? 3) 1B - likely the key position in the lineup for this team. Last year we didn't have anyone who could even play the position. (Frankly we havent had anyone since Morneua) Kiriloff having a healthy breakout year will be Hugh. 4) the gaping hole in LF since Rosario was let go. At least Gallo can play defense, but if he hits 200 with 150K's , it will.still be a gaping hole. 5) Health Ĺots to be excited about, including some recovering players & prospects, but synergy is what this team needs most to happen. Can Rocco do it is the question?
  20. Miranda had a lot of growing pains last year at 1B. There is little system depth at1B. A healthy Kiriloff at 1B will be absolutely key to this offense. I still think a veteran backup would be useful. If this team has a complete turnaround in health, they have a chance to be very good.
  21. Judging from the recent success of Miranda & Lewis, Salas looks right on schedule. 2 years ago Lewis was looking like a failed prospect and no one even had Miranda on the radar. Last year Lewis looked like a budding Superstar (until the idiots played him out of position) and Miranda has proven he belongs. Maybe we will be saying Louis who in a couple of years? Martin needs to get it in gear this year.
  22. We all hope Kiriloff has that breakout season. That said I wouldn't have been against a Hosmer or Gurriel signing if there was room on the 40 man roster.
  23. I think his slider, when thrown well, is unhittable. His high fastball also has a lot of movement. Just needs to be disguised a little better. Certainly better than Pagan.
  24. It seems to me that Gordon would be the obvious choice. Even if he is DH. He has speed and BA. I'm sure he can learn to take more pitches and walks.
  25. The only reason I tolerate the Gallo signing is that he is a plus defender. If there is a chance that we could turn him into a 250 hitter with fewer K's & power, great. But we tried that with Sano and.......
