  1. A 198 hitter? Would not take him for free! We have better options on house already. Mark my words, Austin Martin is going to have a breakout year. The Twins have 2 major needs & a couple of depth issues. #1) A RH hitting 5 tool player for the gaping hole in left field. Lourdes Gurriel fills that need perfectly. #2) A #2 SP. This one will require some clever trade manipulation and may be difficult to attain. #3) a solid bullpen guy like Devin Williams and maybe depth at 1B. Trading Polanco / Kepler would clear salary space for Gurriel & Williams and still leave $15 of payroll for a SP.
  2. No way, he can't hit. We have options in CF with Austin - who can hit, Castro & Gordon. Plug Wallner in for Kepler and lose little to nothing at 1 /10 the price. Sign Gurriel for LF!!!!!! Trade Kepler & Polanco to pay for it and have enough left over to pay Devin Williams for a bullpen Ace. Come on Falvey, this is a no brainer.
  3. We need a proven reliever like Devin Williams, not some flyer.
  4. While I have always thought Kepler to be a valuable player, Wallner is basically the same player for 1/10 the price. What we need to fill is the gaping hole in LF with a 5 tool RH bat. Lourdes Gurriel fills that void. Trading Kepler, Polanco plus prospects for SP & bullpen help is our best path forward.
  5. Corbin Burns isn't realistic. Devin Williams is however and a strong bullpen like that can carry a team a long ways! None of these "Pundits " seem to address the gaping hole in the Twins offense - LF. Lourdes Gurriel is sitting there for 4yrs @60M for the taking. RH 5 tool power hitter who does NOT strikeout, hits for average, power, speed and excellent defense. What are we waiting for? As much as we may love Kepler, he is completely redundant with Wallner. Trade both Kepler & Polanco and free up $20M to trade and sign or sign a #2 SP. We would still have money for Gurriel. CF & 1B we have covered with players in the system. LF is and has been a gaping hole since Rosario left. You could not draw up on paper a more affordable perfect match for the Twins offensive needs than Gurriel. I don't get it? Discuss....
  6. He is a testament to hard work & good coaching. Hope he becomes one of our "Secret Weapons" for years to come!
  7. No thanks to any of Headrick, Winder, Sands even being on the roster. Balazovik, Canterino, Alcala are NOT the answer either. We need a SP, a LF & bullpen help. Varland & Funderburk look to be our best bets. If we don't trade for a #2 SP, then Varland starts & we need a guy like D. Williams badly. Sign Gurriel to fill the gaping hole in LF and trust Martin to be the leadoff sparkplug in CF While Castro is a valuable utility player, we need Farmer's leadership and ability to play 3B & SS in case of any significant injury time at those positions. Not something we should rely on for Castro to do. Kepler & Polanco are redundant and should be traded as well as Gordon. Then we can afford Gurriel - the 5 tool guy we have be lacking in LF.
  8. Agree 100%. A speedy sparkplug leadoff hitter who can play CF is exactly what the Twins need. I still think we should retain Farmer. Gordon we can do without. Sign Gurriel and trade Kepler & Polanco.
  9. If a player blossoms during that extra year, then the team that drafted, invested and developed him would bring him up soon enough and get their reward. Not fair to the team losing talent they have invested in. If they are well stocked at a position and can't protect a marginal player after 4 or 5 years, then at least it gives that player a chance elsewhere and doesn't hurt the team that invested in them as much. Seems about right.
  10. We need a RH 5 tool power hitter in LF, period. If Lewis can play LF and Peredies can be had for reasonable tradewise, this works! Cheaper financially than signing Gurriel, which I have been advocating for. I like that he doesn't strikeout much, especially for a pull hitter. I would prefer to keep Lewis at 3rd, but this may be an option to fill that gaping hole in LF.
  11. Not that we'd be trading any pitchers: But Lopez, Ryan, Duran would be foolish to trade. Lewis, Lee, Jenkins should be no Brainers, no trade. I also think Austin Martin is going to be a very valuable Kevin Kiermeier type player: great defense, more speed and likely a better BA. An important piece for years to come. So who to trade: First dump Polanco & Kepler for backend starters, bullpen help or OF prospects. Clear that salary and sign Gurriel - a Five Tool player - to fill the RH void in LF. Then trade Julien & Jeffers. We are not going to get top flite controllable pitching for anything less. Catchers are part time players and a team can live with a veteran like Vazquez guiding someone like Carmago if the position can play defense & hit 200. What a team can't survive is Joey Gallo in LF as we have proven. This gets us a top flyte pitcher AND fills our biggest offensive need.
  12. Definitely agree that developing catching (& pitching) needs to be emphasized in the Twins system more. All we seem to do is draft SS. We need to draft outside the box more often. Lest we forget that Aaron Judge - not a prototypical athlete- was passed by by ALL 32 teams twice! If we have to trade Jeffers for pitching, so be it. Roll with Vasquez & Carmago and trade Kepler & Polanco for immediate bullpen help & catching prospects. Then sign Gurriel to fill that gaping RH power void in LF with the freed up salary. This addresses our 2 major weaknesses while still maintaining a solid catching defense.
  13. Kepler & Polanco have to be traded. $20M money freed up. Yes we could use a #2 SP, but our most impactful signing should be a slugging right-handed LF like Gurriel. Get a reliever and a pitching prospect for either Kepler or Polanco. Roll with the SP's we have unless we can pull off some kind of trade. A deep bullpen will make up for SP deficiencies.
  14. We traded some very good prospects for Mahle and got damaged goods on return. Outside of Lee, there really isn't much in our pipeline of potential All Star talent. Trade Kepler & Polanco now and if Lee developes, trade Julien next year. Our SP is still pretty good, but our hitting needs to be better. Contact hitters like Lee & Martin will help. Our biggest need is still a slugging RH 5 tool guy in LF. Getting Gurriel would be the best thing this team could do!
  15. If we don't make a deal for a SP, then Varland starts. If we do, he would be a welcome addition to the bullpen and our pitching will be set. Seems the best route for 2024.
  16. I don't understand all this talk about CF & 1B. With the payroll cut we are going to have to cover those spots internally. Kiriloff will be fine & Miranda or Julien will have to fill in. Austin Martin is an exciting high contact hitter who can play CF & SS. Don't need CF backup with him & Castro Farmer is cheap insurance for 3B &SS plus a clubhouse leader should Lewis or Correa go down. Trade Kepler & Polanco, both are redundant and save $20M in payroll. The gaping hole in the lineup is and has been LF. Sign Gurriel to a 4yr $60M . Fits in the budget if you dump both Kepler & Polanco and roll with youth at 1B, RF, CF, 2B ,3B. Still money for pitching even after Gurriel Pitching will have to be traded for.
  17. If we can trade Kepler/Polanco + some prospects for a good SP could we then fill our gaping hole in LF with Lourdes Gurriel on a 4yr $60M deal?
  18. We have proven depth behind Kepler & Polanco, they must be traded for pitching so we can sign a power hitting Left fielder. Vazquez we don't have proven depth behind. While Carmago sounds intriguing, he isn't seasoned at the major league level yet. It's taken Jeffers several years to get there. God help us if he goes down and all we have is Carmago & no one else.

    Seattle wants Polanco

While Seattle is a potential trade partner, I don't see the Twins having any interest in Robnie Rays salary and no way they give up Lee. I'd love them to take a flyer on Yamamoto, but the competition seems stiff. Farmer has proven depth value & Miranda may also. Polanco, Miranda/Farmer plus a young pitcher seems like a lot for Miller or Woo. But something needs to happen either with Seattle, Anaheim, Pittsburgh or Miami.
  20. As much as we like like Kepler & Polanco, the time to trade them.is NOW! A package deal for a controllable SP with upside. Where we need to go free agency is for a RH power hitting left fielder. That has-been a gaping hole since Rosario left. Wallner is Kepler redux in right field & Martin will have to step up & take CF. The Twins have 3 needs: SP, bullpen setup guy, power hitting LF. Have no choice but to trust that Kiriloff, Martin & Julien/Lee are healthy & ready. Buxton & Miranda would be a bonus.
  21. Happy for Maeda & Gray. They deserve it! The Twins will go the trade route. Kepler, Polanco, Farmer, Vasquez, SWR, Winder, etc will hopefully be packaged for a controllable SP that has upside. The Angels & Pirates & possibly Mariners starters that have been mentioned in these forums sound like our best options going forward.
  22. Absolutely trade Kepler. Wallner is the same player at 1/10 the price
  23. None of these players do anything for me. Glasnow@ $25M. Not possible. Arozarena would be OK, but would he be worth signing lonng term? 250 average & 23 HR. Ho hum.
  24. Kepler & someone, not Wallner. Wallner is a clone of Kepler at 1/10 the price.
