When healthy, this rotation has 4 solid starters. In this day and age, you need 5 or 6. If Jax can be a $15M mid level starter, we would then have (and must spend) that $15M on 3 very good bullpen arms. That would be a win/win situation. Otherwise, NO!

Core or Out the Door: Twins Trade Away Candidates, 6-10
KBJ1 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We need to make Jax a SP since we can't afford any, and then sign some Good bullpen guys! Will still cost $$, but much cheaper than SP. Trade bats for pitching, not the other way round.- 37 replies

Emmanuel Rodriguez Is Coming In Hot
KBJ1 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agree on Emma's talent and trajectory. There will be ups and downs early on, so starting at AAA does make sense. Unless he just mashes at Spring Training and forces their hand. Martin & Kiriloff were Hugh disappointments for me last year. I'm ready to be disappointed by Keirsey this year as well and would rather see Helman actually. It would be nice to pry some pitching away from Pittsburgh, but I wouldn't include Emma. Even a stud young pitcher only plays once a week, a stud OF plays every day. -
What we have needed for years is a power bat with speed & defense in LF. If big tall lanky power hitters like Judge & Ohtani can steal 30 - 50 bases there is no excuse for some of our power hitters in the minors not to be able to steal a base. We also have one of the best base stealing coaches in Paul Molitor available to teach it. No to any of those FA options. We have similar cheaper, younger in house. We need better!!

The Twins Have a First Base Problem
KBJ1 replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can't say I'm at all excited about a Lee/julien middle infield if Correra goes down. Santana saved our butt last year, but likely won't be back. Bringd us back to the hoped for miranda/Kiriloff platoon, which Kiriloff has majorly disappointed at. Still need a RH bat for LF and a SP. Maybe Jax as SP? Then we would still need bullpen help - a lot of it - but at least bullpen pitchers are much cheaper than quality starters. Same problems as last year, only maybe with Margot, Santana & Kepler off the books, they can sign someone of note. My preference would be a Gurriel type for Lf, make Jax a SP and sign 3 good bullpen guys. Cheapest route.- 85 replies

Prospects aren't going to help us win in 25 or 26. We already have prospects. What we don't have is SP and a 5 tool LF - middle of the order bat. Jax as a starter might make sense . Proven Bullpen performers (not injured ones) are way cheaper than SP. The Twins tried to go the bullpen route over SP last year and it might have worked had it not been for injuries. They don't have $$ for SP next year either, so trading cheap bullpen options for prospects makes no sense. For a SP like Maeda in 2020, maybe. But if Jax can become a $20M value SP, spend $10M on the bullpen. If, for once, they all stay healthy, it would be a lights out bullpen. And I would still rather have had Ryan Pressley over Alcala & Celestino.

Injuries and cheap ownership (no depth, no putting us over the top.signings) did us in once again. You simply cannot waste these windows of opportunity when they open. The Royals didn't, we did.

Kc seems to make the most of their young talent when it comes around, the Twins do not. KC spent money this year and got the pieces they needed, the Twins did not. Detroit is a complete fluke, yet here they are. The long term affect is the KC fans suffer through many miserable seasons, but get rewarded when the teams window of opportunity opens. Twins fans are perpetually teased by good, not great teams and then are continually let down by ownership when the teams window of opportunity arrives.

Should the Twins Bring Back Carlos Santana in 2025?
KBJ1 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As a proven veteran, excellent fielder, switch hitter and valuable clubhouse mentor, what's not to like about Carlos Santana? The Twins will not spend big money on a SP, that we know. There will be another round of bullpen reclamation projects next off season. Which would have been fine this season if ANY of them.had stayed healthy. Keeping Santana around to split time with whoever at 1B & DH should be a no brainer at $6-8M. He is frankly better than any of the other impending free agents and affordable . I, for one, was really hoping for Kiriloff to have a breakout year and take over 1B. Didn't happen. Everyone talks about moving Julien to 1B only because he sucks at fielding everywhere else. He is not a prototypical 1B, end of story. Miranda may be our best option, but needs a lot of work at 1B to just to get to zero level defense. Other than the Air Force 1B they drafted late this year, we have no one of note in the system to promote. I don't see any Hrbeks on the horizon. Keep Santana until we find / develope someone. (He may have to play til age 45)😀- 95 replies

Ownerships lack of support is putting excess pressure on the players & coaches and eroding their confidence. That said, rookies or not, they have to band together and fight through it.
-
He is the proverbial "player to be named lateŕ" trade candidate. I was surprised he made an errant throw, but being new to the field can do that. I hope he does well, we could use it. Kiersay & Rodriguez will be in the mix next year.

Nice to see Hellman finally get a callup But pitching is the dire need. Smyly would have been a nice addition for a doable price.

Twins Young Pitching Must Turn Hype into Results as the Team Chases a Division Title
KBJ1 commented on NishiokaStan's blog entry in Northern Platitudes
We knew that they weren't going to keep or sign SP. The large # of Bullpen acquisitions as plan B looked like a good plan until not a single one of them panned out or stayed healthy. With their 3 biggest offensive Stars missing months at a time, it's a miracle they are in contention at all. I don't see any meaningful DFA pickups on the horizon. So it's going to be "No Name" miracles or an early exit. -

When Lewis made the scene in 2022 there was a rush to get his bat into the lineup. I was at that I'll fated game where he blew out his knee in CF. Thiat said, LF would seem to be where the team needs him most. Lewis is an excellent athlete and LF is a safer and easier position than CF or 2B. We have a plethora of capable infielders, potentially a great one, and Lewis is the least of them. He is however, the best bat and putting him in LF is the best fit by far.

While our young rookie pitchers have all shown they have talent, relying on them for 60% of the starting rotation is irresponsible. I'd still rather have them than washed up retread free agent starters. What should have happened is the signing of an established veteran or someone like Imanaga. Best of luck to our young hurlers. Maybe they carry us to the promised land like the miracle Mets!

Why Is Trevor Larnach Hitting So High in the Twins Lineup?
KBJ1 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It does seem like Rocco has toned down the analytics a bit lately and isn't wholesale substituting guys in the 5th inning. Margot, while still Offers pinch hitting, has been much better of late. But Castro, a switch hitter with speed should be leading off, period. When a hitter, any hitter, is seeing the ball well - go with the hot bat. If he is 0-3 with 3 K's, then pinch hit. Otherwise let you starters play. I also still think that our gaping hole in LF should be solved by putting Lewis out there. He would be better in LF than anyone else we have been putting out there and we have 2 other adequate 3B. -
The Minnesota Twins Bullpen Help is Almost Here
KBJ1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Richard's & Dobnak have been a disaster. If Topa isn't the same as last year, he will suck as well. With Lopez shuffling all year and now Ryan out, this pitching staff will implode. They will be back at 500 by September and out of the playoffs.- 34 replies

Do the Twins Have an Ace? How do their starters stack up?
KBJ1 commented on bean5302's blog entry in Shallow Thoughts - bean5302
Totally agree. This staff is not good enough to win it all. Stewart being out is just killing us. No #5 starter will be our downfall. -
Twins Trade Targets (Part 4): Big Bats
KBJ1 commented on Elinoah1110's blog entry in Eli's Twins Talk
We haven't had a LF since Rosario was given his walking papers. Given our glut of infielders and lack of RH 5 tool OF players, the thing that makes the most sense is to move Lewis to LF. He would be a plus fielder and fill that gaping hole. Would be an excellent set lineup that still has great flexibility when needed.- 4 comments
