Keirsey, Julien and Gaspar Make Opening Day Roster
KBJ1 commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Good greif, so we have four "journeymen" AAA players and 4-5 others that are perpetually hurt. A couple injuries away from last place. -
I wish. I thought the same about Kiriloff last year, and look where that went. For all we know (and hope for) Rodriguez gets the nod in LF. Would love to see Larnach with a 1B mitt.

Nathan should have been a 1st ballot HOF. Closer is a position on a baseball team, therefore deserves recognition as much as any other. Nathan was clearly one of the best at his position. The HOF should NOT be just about Superstar HR hitters. Santana also merits serious consideration for his multi year dominance at his position. 12 years is plenty long enough. Hunter, no, the Hall of Very Good! Even though he played 20 years, he was never a Superstar at his position like Nathan & Santana were.

Larnach was always my choice to transition to 1B. Big, strong lefty with limited range, speed and arm should automatically be targeted for 1B. Why do the Twins continually put bug slow guys in the OF & natural athletes like Lewis in the infield? Put Larnach at 1B & Lewis in LF. Two of our biggest problems solved. We have guys who can play 2nd & 3rd, but no one at 1B or LF (RH power hitter has been needed in LF for years!) We Didn't hesitate to trot Lewis ot to CF in 2023, a position he had zero experience at. He has played LF and to thise saying he could get hurt - he got hurt rounding the bases, he can run into a wall playing 3B just as easily as LF. He has the range and ability to be a better LF than 3B in my opinion anyways. Castro at 1B is a ridiculous idea.

Idk, a recent article on here had the Twins farm system ranked 17th. Not what you want to see if you are a small market team. While this list is talented, the problem is we need them all to be proven major league starters this year. They're not. The only healthy, consistent player we had last year was 38 year old Santana, and he is gone. Last years team, on paper, showed much more potential and depth than right now. And we all know what happened last year. As of now, we have no defined 1B, 2B, LF power hitter, zero LH pitching, and a bunch of guys coming off injuries. It's going to take multiple rookie of the year candidates and career years from from the rest to even get a sniff of the playoffs. Without a RH power bat, some speed and LH pitching, this is a B league team.

Agreed that the Sun's are a mess right now with no draft picks and bloated contracts. Baseball needs to enact full revenue sharing like the NFL if it wants to survive. That said, owners with deep pockets, willing to spend, are what it would take now for the Twins to compete in the current environment. As I've said, sports franchises are a toy, not a normal business. The attitude is who cares if you lose money as long as you win the prizes ! You'll make billions when you sell.
-
This guy already owns the Sun's & part of the White Sox? How far does 5.7 Billion go? Owning a sports franchise is a toy. Running it like a business doesn't work in today's market of billionaires throwing money around. A sports team is not going to "make a profit" like a normal business. The profit comes when you sell it for 1 or 2 Billion more than you paid. In the meantime you spend like a drunken sailor and win WS series rings for bragging rights, like the Dodgers. Owning a sports franchise is not a normal business. The Charley Finley & Cal Griffith models of running a sports franchise as a business are long gone.

At least they have options for 2B. What the Twins don't have is #5 SP RH power outfielder 1B - besides Miranda Speed LH pitching A healthy bullpen that actually performs as hoped. 2B & catcheir, inspite of the legitimate issues raised, are the least of their concerns.

Meanwhile revenue sharing & salary caps (lack of) are killing g baseball. The Dodgers were the last team to declare bankruptcy (2011?) And may likely be the next in 10 years. BUT, meanwhile they will be the most dominant team in the league. Leverage the future, who cares? If you go bankrupt, the league will find a new buyer and the current owner will still quadruple his initial investment. That's how silly the money situation has become. The Twins have no chance of competing with their current salary & payroll limitations.

I'd say that SWR is seriously underrated. As a rookie, the guy stepped in and literally saved the rotation from disaster. Sure, he often went only 5 innings, but he kept the team in the game most every start. A controllable, cheap #4 SP who will only get better is worth their weight in Gold for an organization like the Twins. As excited as I was for last years team, this year does not inspire me at all. They still don't have a #5 SP, no LF right hand power hitter and now no 1B and a BP with no depth, no Lefty and injury concerns galore. Barring a miracle, These 4 areas not being addressed make this a 500 team at best.

Larnach and Lewis Hold the Key to an Elevated Twins Lineup
KBJ1 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not as excited about next year as I was about last year. SP & Bullpen are still an issue as well as defense and the lack of speed. Emmanuel Rodriguez needs to step up & into LF. Larnach needs a 1B mitt and Lewis & Lee (someone) needs to field 2nd & 3rd better than we have seen. Lastly : everyone needs to stay healthy!! Gonna take a miracle. -
Is Harrison Bader This Year’s Byron Buxton Insurance?
KBJ1 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins need Rodriguez to be a star in LF, a 1B mitt for Larnach and Buxton fully healthy for 120 games. Then the in house backups, along with Castro will be fine. Sounds like a lot of wishful thinking.......- 57 replies

Would rather have had Gurriel than Profar - too old. Sasaki would be a major coop. We should have signed the guy the Cubs did last year. Don't mi ndJax as SP, if & only if we spend on good BP. BP , even good ones, are much cheaper than SP. We need BP, LF & 1B.

A Fresh Look at Baseball: Vision for a Revamped MLB Schedule
KBJ1 commented on rogrulz30's blog entry in "And we'll see ya' ... tomorrow night."
Baseball dies need some major reorganization, starting with eliminating ridiculous contracts like Ohtanis. Availability and fan engagement is very poor right now. You can't watch your team play at all on regular TV now. 5 game series do sound like a bit too much, even if Sundays are double headers. Plus you would need extra players for that. I don't think you can bounce AAA players up and down every week. But I like the fan engagement aspects of your plan, the ongoing analysis and alerts aspects and playoff format ideas. The season needs to be shorter as well. Playing in early April and November are ridiculous. They do need to implement double headers and less travel. -
The bullpen had promise when healthy, but it wasn't and it sucked. More of the same this year it looks like.
