  1. If we had just done what AZ has done, sign Montgomery, even for 1 yr; we'd be a WS favorite. Instead we spent $15M on DeSclafani, Santana & Margot. Varland is already in and Miranda & Martin could have done the same or better for $10M less. That's the ongoing beef with the Twins ownership. Afraid to spend big when needed (Correa the exception) and trust their prospects to grow into the roles. Instead they spend foolishly on reclamation projects, stop gaps and has beens. We all know this team needed 5 things going into this season. A #2 SP , a 5 tool RH bat for LF ( Gurriel would been a steal) 2 of Martin ,Miranda or Lee to step up and bullpen depth. They addressed one of the 5 things (Bullpen) and still spent nearly $20M. Unless some magic synergy happens, they could fall flat on their faces.
  2. So far the Polanco trade is looking like another fleecing. A pitcher with known injury issues - on the IL. A one year wonder who so far has sucked and is now also hurt and a prospect who has what, maybe a 10% chance of ever making an MLB roster. Sign a proven and healthy player for once.
  3. We tried Rich Hill several years ago, he wasn't good then. Clevenger's #'s were solid last year. What's not to like?
  4. This team is not ready to gel and a slow start to the season will not help matters. Should have signed an impact player like Gurriel and not wasted $15M on DeSclafani, Margot & Santana. Varland, Miranda & Martin + $15 spend wisely would have been a much better option. But they panicked and went for mediocrity.
  5. We wanted $15 on players we didn't need. DeSclafani- out, Margot & Santana. Should have signed Gurriel or a SP and went with Miranda & Martin. Now we are stucknwith these 3 and Varland is the #5 SP anyway. Ugh! Thank God for Willi Castro, but it's not going to be enough unless Santana & Margot are brilliant - which I highly doubt.
  6. $15M wasted on 1 yr players we didn't need. DeSclafani - out, Margot and Santana. Could have signed Gurriel and brought up Martin and Miranda. Varland is by default now the #5 starter anyways. Sheer idiocracy!!!
  7. Castro is a gem! Margot & Santana we didn't really need. And now we still need a pitcher.
  8. This team needs to sign Jordan Montgomery right now! I agree with let the kids play. Would much rather see Austin Martin flourish than signing a utility backup like Margot. Margot DeSclafani & Santana is $15M they could have spent elsewhere. I hope these players contribute, but it's starting to look like we got an also ran, and injury and a has been for that money.
  9. Projected 234 BA? Call me old school, but if your BA is 250, you better be hitting 40+ HR. Where are the 30- 30- 30 guys who hit 300 these days? That would be something worth talking about!
  10. Depth is good & there is a lot to be optimistic about. But as far as I am concerned the Pressley trade for Alcala & Celestino has been a complete bust! Pressley immediately set the Major league record for relief appearances without allowing a run, not to mention World Series wins for Houston. Years later we are still hoping for Alcala to be healthy and learn how to pitch. That 3 years $30M contract Houston gave Pressley turned out to be one of the best deals of the past decade. If only........
  11. Well it's either Velocity or Deception. If he developed a pitch that moves away from rightness or comes backmover the outside edge to lefties, with control, that's what it's all about. Still might need a 4th pitch though.
  12. Promising yes. Just wish he could play LF where we need a 5 tool, big bat.
  13. Signing a top of the line replacement for Gray was never really in the mix. But they should have jumped on Gurriel instead of Santana & Margot for about the same money. Just my 2 cents.
  14. I like the idea of a sinker coming back in on the glove side of the plate to both ledtys and rightys.
  15. I hate this trade! Not because we traded Miller, but because it sends Martin back to AAA. Martin (although unproven at the MLB level) has the same skillset - high contact, lower power #'s, low strikeouts, but is a better defender, a base stealer & younger & cheaper. This guy better have a career year.
  16. He is indeed a wild card. With some careful management and two way communication, I'm hopeful he has a great season. People still give Baldelli crap for pulling starters, but last year Twins starters were near the top of the keague in innings pitched! Previous years our starters sucked. Outside of Sonny Gray being pulled earlier than he wanted a few times, most were warranted. Last year Sonny had no issues with it and admitted he was gassed when pulled out of some games. If our starting rotation lives up close to it's potential, they will be fine. The bullpen should be very solid. Where we have really missed the boat this year is a RH power bat like Gurriel, for LF. He was the one FA option that made sense & was affordable. Hard to see Santana as the answer. If he has one last blast, let's hope it's now!
  17. Win a World Series and you gain a million fans, sell a ton of merchandise- Nationally - and make more $$ long term - including better TV rights! Do nothing and pinch penmies?? Lose longtime fans and fade back into obscurity and retraction. Grow a pair!
  18. Amazing how these specialized training sites can dramatically improve a players technique and abilities. Stewart saved the bullpen from completely imploding last year and I look forward to a great year from him in 24! We should send all of our players to these facilities.
  19. Sounds like the typical Twins pitcher. Insane stuff and the broken arm that comes with it. One hopes for his sake that he can recover and have a long successful career. But the odds are stacked against it.
  20. Well if 120 and above is supposed to be good, then this lineup doesn't look very good. I'd like to see some other teams #'s.
  21. While I'm not sold on Jackson, Topa & Okerk, it's great to have options and depth. The next 4 guys on the list all could earn a spot on most rosters as well! Stewart came out of nowhere and literally saved our bullpen the first half last year. If just 2 or3 of those 7 guys come through, it's going to be a very good pen. It's going to come down to coaching and getting these guys locked in.
  22. I feel that varland should be the 6th starter/swingman. Yes the bullpen has depth, but another lockdown guy like Devin Williams would be far better than the throw 12 guys at the wall and see who sticks approach we seem to be doing. No Headrick, Winder or Sands please.
  23. Agree on Gordon as a top 5 pick was poor. The Twins need TO STOP drafting SS in the first round. 5 tool OF , like Jenkins, are where the focus should be. Don't forget every single team passed on Aaron Judge in rd 1, except the Yankees.
  24. While I like the bullpen depth, I don't see any lockdown arms after Duran & Stewart (if healthy). So best bullpen in the league is highly debatable, but promising. SP will be OK as it is. Still need that 5 tool RH bat in LF. The youngsters - Kiriloff, Julien, Wallner, Lewis and Martin or Lee will have to step up - along with Correa & Buxton to make a championship run.
  25. Bullpen options are fine, but we seem to be spitballing a bunch of options with no real standouts like Devin Williams. Funderburk seemed like a fine option already. This just seems redundant. But then, so was Gordon. RH bat for LF please!!!
