  1. I'm not ready to call him the best. Take into account the talent level of the players the different managers have had to work with, and TK got the most out of those players IMO. As an older person, I've seen all the managers the Twins have had. Mele was good, Martin is still probably my favorite. Let's not forget about Mauch. Maybe Rocco will be as good as those, but IMHO he has a ways to go before I anoint him the best.
  2. At this point I would take Martin over either Margot or Julian. I'm just guessing that next season he will fill the role they gave Margot this year.
  3. Great article. Keep them coming!
  4. Vasky is a really good catcher. Now that he's hitting more I hope some of the haters get off his case. The play of Martin says to me that Margot isn't really needed anymore. Could he get DFA'd?
  5. Great article. I remember well the shock of the Herr trade. The Twins needed a 2nd baseman and Herr had been very good in St. louis for the past few years. He came here and it seemed he had attitude with people.
  6. I agree that letting Maeda go was a good decision, but the jury is still out on Gray. I would much rather have Gray out there than either Festa or Mathews.
  7. Looks like some great prospects so far. I hope they can stay healthy!
  8. Great article! Kind of like the Wild and North Stars situation. The wild celebrates many players from the North Stars days. I have no idea if the Stars celebrate the old days but they should. I still get kind of angry about that move.
  9. I was sad to lose Polo and I'll be sad to lose Kep. But the way the business side of the game works. I can't see him taking a hometown discount, as I'm fairly certain there will be teams that are more than willing to give him a nice 2-3 year deal that will dwarf what the Twins offer. I'll enjoy watching his tenure with the Twins as it winds to what seems to be an ending. Love you Max and good luck!
  10. I am hopeful that at only 23 yrs old there is room and time for much more from him. 1st time as a starter in MLB at only 23 is something that is kind of rare lately with the Twins.
  11. Another night of wishing for a robo ump calling balls and strikes. Though not the reason the Twins lost, the balls and strike calling was so inconsistent for both teams that the league really needs to do something.
  12. Relief pitchers really don't get enough credit. Jax would be the primary closer on many, if not most, teams. I read recently that he would like to back to being a starter. He could probably be a 2-3 slot starter, if he could increase his endurance. With the number of starters coming thru the Twins system, i hope they leave him in the pen. Add Varland (who just isn't cutting it as a starter) and they could have a pretty good pen. Now if they can just find another lefty over the winter They could have a pen of Duran, Jax, Alcala, Sands, Varland, Oker, Topa, and add in a decent lefty!
  13. I say yes this season. 3 Rookies in the rotation, means 2 quality, experienced catchers are needed. He plays above avg. defense, calls good games, and by all reports is a great influence in the clubhouse.
  14. I think he really put himself in the dog house with the management team over the unreported injury. He has been a mess due to all the injury issues the past few years. IMO he needs to be trade bait. Who knows, give him a fresh start with a new organization and he may really take off. It seems he has really been passed by with so many coming up thru the system.
  15. At this time I would see him as more of a road block for the young guys on the farm. Sure, sign him to a minor league deal with an invite, but until they see what he has left in the tank, and how he recovers from surgery, I would shy away.
  16. I agree with you, but I do think after some MLB experience I do expect Martin do be around avg. for the league next season. He's still raw in the OF but again, more experience should make him better.
  17. The biggest problem I see is Margot blocking the path to the majors for youngsters. I don't have the stats but the eye test tells me Martin could do about the same and has more positional flexibility. Margot has hit better lately so in reality it's not as bad of a value than Farmer.
  18. It would almost be like poetic justice for the Twins to block Cle. this year.
  19. Moving him into the OF seems like a no go. 2nd base would be a bit of a challenge due to the footwork that is needed there, and Lewis seems to have a problem with his lower body, probably due to all the injuries. 1st base seems like the most logical, but I'm not so sure Santana will be gone. That leads back to 3rd. Maybe he just needs some off season work to improve there. The Kids an athlete, so with some extra work, he could probably improve quite a bit.
  20. I could see a couple of teams below the Twins making claims, if no other reason than blocking the Twins from improving. That's kind of what happened last year with Cle. as I remember.
  21. The Twins have posted the third-highest bullpen ERA since the All-Star break What happened to "one of the best pens in the league" we kept hearing about in the spring?
