  1. The difference this year between early season Wallner and post all star Wallner is night and day. Take his bat out of this lineup, especially w/o Buxton and Correa and a slumping Lewis and this lineup looks pretty feeble.
  2. I just think if you keep the pressure on the other team they will start to press and even rush, which can lead to mistakes.
  3. I respectfully disagree. At that age there is no excuse I can think of for being tired. If their hurt that's a different story, They are paid so well they don't need to work in the off season, which should give them plenty of time for conditioning.
  4. SWR has been pretty good for most of the year, Surprising me. His recent track record gave me no confidence. But I'm thinking he's probably hit the wall, and turning back into a pumpkin.
  5. I'm so happy that Farmer is finally having some success! From all I hear he deserves the "good guy" clubhouse award. They over paid terribly for him, so I hope he can stay hot!
  6. A good 3rd base coach knows the fielders arm strength an accuracy, and the runners speed and endurance. I like an aggressive coach who sees a 50% chance and sends the runner, knowing it will take a perfect throw, relay, and tag to get the runner at home. But, some of these guys are getting thrown out by several feet. That says he shouldn't have been sent. Getting thrown out by a foot or less is a good send in IMO.
  7. Either way if they win the 1st round (which I doubt, no matter who they play) They will still have to play Balt/NY or Cle. who has had our number for the last couple of years.
  8. That's correct, but Gray and even Heaney were veterans with a track record. SWR seems to have done OK for the most part, Festa and Mathews are learning on the fly. IMHO that's a lot to put on guys that have very little professional experience, and then to learn at the major league level is really pushing their luck. To their credit they have done fairly well so far, but the pressure of a pennant race added in and anything can happen.
  9. Losing always seems to bring out the discontent of the clubhouse. Can the entire coaching staff correct it?
  10. I'm really bored hearing about these players being tired. They get paid more than 80% of the working population, They work (play) 6-7 months per year, they have the rest of the year to work on conditioning and training. And they're tired? What about the rest of the league? Aren't they playing just as long? I haven't heard them complaining. Why are the Twins so much more tired than they are? "Tired" just sounds like an excuse to me!
  11. I was thinking about the parallel to Texas on Sunday. The biggest difference I see is pitching. Texas had it, the Twins have Lopez and Ober, after them its over!
  12. The Twins seem to better with a more patient approach. Lately, it's almost like they're in hurry to get through the game. The coaches are also to blame. They have to pick up on these trends and help the hitters see and recognize them. If they can't take the coaching they need to go!
  13. It sounds to me like the losing is causing some clubhouse problems, as it so often does. Rocco's main strength is handling his players, or so they say. Time to get to work on that. Still have good odds of making the post season, though that will probably last the 1st series. If they don't make the playoffs, I wonder if the coaching staff will get turned over?
  14. Is this going to be a total collapse? I'm afraid so unless somehow they get Buxton and Correa back on the field. 3 rookie starters need some runs to be scored for them. I believe they just get in with 8 more wins but then what?
  15. Rocco needs to leave Duran for the 9th. I don't have any stats to back it up, but it seems that Duran does better in the 9th of a save opportunity than earlier.
  16. So far, so good. Now we find out over the next couple of seasons if he can stand the test of time. Can he adjust as hitters adjust to him?
  17. I don't know why Ober got pulled. I wonder if anyone can gather the stats to show how Duran has done in the 9th inning of save chances vs. earlier in the games?
  18. At the rate this team suffers injuries, I'm guessing they won't have too much of a problem fitting Keaschall in.
  19. It was nice of them to give in to his wishes to remain a starter, but as far as I'm concerned, he was getting paid to pitch in the role they need him for. At this point in his career, that's going to be a late inning setup role. Who knows, maybe he can be a Jax type reliever. Last I looked, they get paid pretty well too!
  20. I was pretty young in '61 but I do remember some of the "older" folks talking about him after that 1st game. When he was traded a few people thought Calvin was just being cheap.
  21. Can't really expect too much with 3 rookie starters. SWR has held his own well, but he had plenty of experience in the high minors. Mathews starts the season in the low minors and finishes the season in the majors? Festa at least got some time in AA and AAA before making the jump. They look like they can be pretty good pitchers in time. Putting 3 rookie starters in the rotation during a pennant chase is asking alot.
  22. I'd like to see Headrick get a chance. A lefty with some decent stuff, his health has held him back this year. Now he is off the injured list, so hopefully he gets a few innings in St. Paul, and then who knows?
  23. Lopez seems to be a slow starter. As he ages I'm sure he'll try to figure out a way to start out the season better. I thought at the time of the trade it was a good one, and now I Like it even more, I still miss Arraez, but I think Lopez should bring a better win total than Arraez for this team.
