  1. It looks to me like the Twins have a potentially potent IF for the future. I would like to see an IF shuffle though. I would think about moving Lewis to 1st, Correa to 3rd, Lee to ss, and Keaschall at 2nd. Of course this probably wouldn't fly with either Lewis or Correa.
  2. Really a toss up for me. SWR had a terrible year in 23 so I'm not sure who SWR will be. Paddack was good a few seasons back, but hasn't shown much with the Twins.
  3. Trading Paddack makes sense, but they need to get someone of value back, while keeping him would be like a security blanket. After all, when was the last time the team went through a full season with just 5 starters? Also, I don't feel real comfortable yet with SWR in the 4 hole. Sure he looked godd for most of the year last season, but who knows if that was more a "career season" or if he will turn into a pumpkin?
  4. IMO new ownership will want to pick their own mgmnt staff, though I doubt they change mid season, unless the team is in the tank!
  5. The only way I could see working well is if you have at least 3 good relievers that can go 2 innings every other day, and may occasionally need them a 2nd consecutive day. I don't see that with the Twins roster.
  6. I wonder how many of us seniors that have followed the Twins since the move from DC will even live to see the Twins in the WS again.
  7. Didn't I hear about a year ago the Twins would have one of, if not the best bullpen in the AL? Well, that sure went well didn't it.
  8. IMHO if you plan on a winning season you put your best 8 relievers on the team from the beginning. If you loose a guy that is clearly below the level the other 8 guys are its like "the cost of doing business". Let them battle it out in ST and see what happens!
  9. Too bad a new owner isn't near yet, or maybe they could tell the team to boost payroll by 10 mil or so to plug a hole.
  10. Herr never wanted to play here. For quite a while it seemed like he was more interested in pouting and feeling sorry for himself than playing ball, at least for the twins!
  11. Terrible idea. We have an established ace type starter in Lopez. Ober took major steps forward last season, Ryan is a quality 3 spot pitcher and SWR deserves a regular spot in the rotation after last season. 1 spot open for Paddack (I believe he gets traded) and the 2 kids. I would think probably Festa but that would be decided in ST. Jax is certainly top 5 in the league as a reliever. Just leave him there. Don't mess with something that really should be left alone!
  12. Its a problem as old as the game itself. Some guys are just slow starters. I'm pretty sure a part of his early "problems" have a lot to do with temps in the spring. Having played some ball myself in this god-forsaken frozen tundra we call home, (why do we live here again?) I know how hard it is to get a good grip in the cold, and I was an infielder. I can't imagine trying to get a grip well enough to be able to spin the ball like he does.
  13. It seems to me like they have better luck with converting minor league starters to major league relievers. That may be the best path forward, either from their own draft picks or from another teams minor league starters that just don"t have what it takes as a starter.
  14. If the Twins had another catcher in the system they would be better off moving Jeffers from behind the plate to maybe 1st base? Jeffers is not a starting caliber defensive catcher. He's not great at blocking pitches or framing and he's poor at throwing out runners. He's a decent hitter (usually) but his defense suffers. Vasquez is a poor hitter for sure, but IMO you can give up some offense for defense at the catcher position.
  15. Would they consider moving Lewis to 1st? He would fit the profile, Lee could play 3rd, and Miranda could DH?
  16. I don't know how you can compare selling a house to selling a MLB franchise. There are lots of houses to chose from but at this time it looks to be 1 franchise for sale. While I agree that the Pohlads aren't going to invest more into the team, they surely don't want it tank, lowering attendance even more, and making it less desirable to potential buyers.
  17. I would offer him a 2-3 year deal with an avg. of around 5 mil per year, maybe with a couple of bonus targets thrown in. If that doesn't go, then tender, and sign him and look for a trade. I would hate to lose him, but with these salary limits I don't see much of a choice. 6 mil is just too much at this point, unless the ownership wakes up and realizes a winning team will draw better and thus be more likely to sell at a better price.
  18. If they would trade him, which I don't believe they will, he should bring in a haul. Problem with that is they will then probably need to pay more than 3 mil. I don't see too many teams giving up top, ready for the majors type players that would still be on rookie price contracts.
  19. I would try to get Castro to sign a 2-4 year contract at a reduced rate. If not I would look into trading him. I don't think they tender Tonkin. I would think there are some numbers being tossed around on Alcala also. I doubt Kepler comes back, and the only way I see Thielbar here is at less then the estimated cost.
  20. That will happen when a guy gets hit in the head by a 90 some MPH pitch. It took most of the year for Farmer to bounce back. Some guys never do, but I'm betting Miranda will come back strong.
  21. I think a lot of the pen's issue was having too many guys that did the 5 and fly, with too many 1 inning only relievers. They should have at least 1 two inning RH and 1 two inning LH.
  22. When they have give-aways, give to every ticket holder, not just to the 1st 10,000
  23. True, but another owner would probably try and get a better marketing team in place ASAP. This has been the Pohlads weakness for decades. A shrewd business man or woman would certainly see that and make adjustments. I don't think the payroll would jump much, but even some sort of cost of doing business increase would help. I'm hoping for the best, but as an old man I remember the days of Calvin, and I sure don't want to go back there.
