  1. I would swim or sink with the rookies. This team has enough hitting to cover up some rookie pitching mistakes most days, so let them go. The experience they gain this year can only help them in the future, and with ownership pinching pennies they will need the youngsters and their lower salaries!
  2. The Royals seem to have Ober's number. I agree with pushing him back a day. I wouldn't doubt it if they keep Varland up and use him in the pen as a long guy for now. 3 rookies in the rotation could lead to some short starts back to back. Would be nice to have both Winder and Varland in the pen just in case.
  3. Festa will be fine. There is bound to be some "bumps in the road" but that's to be expected for any youngster getting his 1st taste in the majors. So long as he learns from mistakes, I think he will be a very good pitcher over the next several years.
  4. Lets hope he can overcome the nerves and excitement of his MLB debut. Really excited to see him pitch tonight. Tough team to face though, as KC doesn't K much and is so god hitting in the clutch.
  5. I agree. Larnach has been a better than average "clutch" hitter over the last couple years. Even last year he was leading the Twins in RBI when he was sent down. I would move him down to more of a traditional run producing spot like 6th.
  6. Do the Twins have any control with Topa after this season?
  7. I would think this is as close to a must win game as you can have in August. Win and they send a message to Cle. Lose and they're right back to where they started on Fri. Good test for Festa so early in his career.
  8. Another great walk down memory lane! I was at the game when they gave out the Killebrew mugs. I have 2 of them too this day, and they sit proudley on my Twins fan shelve in mt man cave!
  9. I like Willi but I would be cautious about an extension. I would sat OK to something in the range of 3/30 or even up to 3/35. They could still trade him as that price would be attractive to many teams in a playoff race. Absolutely no to a no trade clause. Then if a guy like Keaschal or Martin or someone can fill his shoes so be it. A decent trade piece is always nice to have.
  10. His 1st taste of MLB pitchers has been a learning experience so far. I agree with LA Vikes fan that playing winter ball in CF would be a huge help. I have no doubt that he'll be a decent hitter, but a table setter. No he isn't going to hit for much power, but a single and a stolen base works just as well as a double.
  11. The Polanco trade sure has been a bust so far. A starter who hasn't and won't pitch this year, a reliever that again hasn't pitched yet this year, and a low level hitter that probably won't see the majors for a few more years.
  12. Remember at the start of the season, The "experts" tried to sell us on the bullpen being one of the top in the league? Getting Varland up in the pen is probably going to need to be done sooner rather than later.
  13. It does concern me that 3 of the 4 starters going Against Cleveland this weekend. SWR and Festa and who knows. SWR has looked overwhelmed the last couple of starts. Festa, at this point anyways, is a mystery. A split of this series would severely hurt their chances of overtaking Cle. Must win at least 3 out of 4 and a sweep would make a statement!
  14. It is so much more enjoyable watching him just glide across CF. Got a good chance to see over 100 games this season.
  15. Sure enjoyed his time as manager here. Loved how aggressive he was, even as the 3rd base coach. The Twins could use some of thar today. On a side note, I wonder how many bases Ricky could steal in todays game!
  16. Be careful what you wish for. Another billionaire could swoop in and move the team to another location. I am disappointed in the payroll situation also, but we have some very good young players (with more on the way) playing for near MLB minimum. That should help. Hopefully by the time they start getting richer, the TV contracts will improve, and attendance will go up! That's the optimist side of me talking anyway.
