  1. Ober is in new territory of innings pitched, it made total sense to try to limit Ober's innings to keep his arm fresh so we can keep getting good quality innings from him the rest of the way. Instead of trying to squeeze an extra inning from him & having less quality innings from him or or get hurt. The problem is with not having enough quality arms in the pen & how to use them. Twins should have kept Julien at 1B all along not trying to make him into something he's not. Hopefully they have woken up & keep him at 1B.
  2. Not surprised at the drop because the fewer opportunity of a few players & maybe the wear tear with older vets. But was surprised a little with Polanco & Kepler were as low as they were & Julien was that good. And Vazquez is better than these stats show.
  3. I was excited to see Lopez, Lewis & Endy Rodriguez play in this game. None of them disappointed me. MAT came through again to get that crucial hit. I was impressed how Rodriguez caught with such flair as a new rookie.
  4. Since ST, I've been a fan of Castro. Yet he's not the typical player that the Twins go for. Even though his impressive ST, odds were he wouldn't make the active roster & rot down in AAA because of the Twins bias. Injuries forced the Twins hand & fortunately that outcome helped Castro to help the Twins stay a float during the 1st half. His #s don't tell the whole story, his flexibility, defense, base running & clutch hitting has been invaluable.
  5. I'd place Lewis #1 at this point. I'd place Martin ahead of Julien, both are excellent OB players but Martin is a better fielder & base runner. I don't blame Martin for prior lack of production, I blame mismanagement.
  6. Julien has played 1B in the minors. It has made perfect sense the last couple of years with the fore seeable quality depth we had at 2B of Polanco, Martin, Lewis & Lee and Julien was a stretch there. To move Julien off 2B & focus his efforts at 1B to perfect his mechanics there. But like Polanco at SS & 3B, Martin at SS, Cave in CF they get the crazy idea that they put these guys in positions where they are overstretched & double down on those ideas. Hopefully they wake up & stop wasting their time on lame brain ideas & stop doubling down on them.
  7. Castro has been a valuable bench player That has stepped in & kept us a float these months when Gallo, Correa & Buxton has let us down. But Martin is a grade above Castro & expect great things from him now that he's back to his strengths. I agree Martin step in & be a spark plug that'd pay off towards the end of the season & post season.
  8. I will not waver we have the core to win a post season game, then series & beyond. Our greatest hurdle is the hurdle as always, that is over using our best RPs & squeezing out every inning out our SPs which burns out our BP & rotation well before the post season arrive. I tend to disagree with you Nick on this one, that SO hitters do not do better against better pitchers in more critical clutch situations they tend to SO more frequently. And that stringing together hits is the more reliable avenue of winning the big game. That's not to say that a hitter can not make good contact & hit it out.
  9. Agree with you all along, I've said that the bench of Castro, Taylor, Farmer, Solano & have saved our butts especially in the beginning because the main guys weren't getting it done. OPS isn't the tell all as far the value of a player. It's defense, base running, getting on base & not striking out and clutch hitting which are often overlooked that IMO is more important & these guys are doing the little things which helps us win games.
  10. I was giving a long list of how I've disapprove of this FO these past 4 yrs. but my computer crashed & I'm too lazy to reproduce that thought. So I'll leave it that I agree with olerud.
  11. As far as true INF we have Lewis, Lee, Correa, Polanco and Martin to play 3B, SS & 2B. Julien, AK, & Miranda are primary 1B. AK & Martin have played OF & should play a lot there, Julien should stay at 1B and Miranda can split some at 1B & DH. Once Lee establishes himself at 3B at the MLB level, Polanco is gone but not before.
  12. For what we need, I wouldn't trade any of those above. The trade I'd like to see is to find a contending team that that needs a veteran LH bat & dump Gallo for RH bat that can rip lefties. Maybe a Festa for a decent high leverage RP to take the pressure off of Duran. But I expect another nothing burger.
  13. Twinns are in desperate need of depth at catcher throughout their system & they had a shot to draft the 2 top college draft prospects but failed to do so. Our nemisis CWS made a good deal on Edgar Quero (I've advocated the Twins to pick up). Yet I wouldn't trade away Sonny Gray because we can pick up a compensation draft pick. Maeda we won't get much for & we need both of them to get to the post season. I have no faith Keuchel
  14. Being swept by Royals is an omen that their lamebrain ideas aren't working & that everything is out of sinc, Keep Polanco at 2B, Lewis at 3B move Julien to 1B. Gallo was a waste of time & money that fit their philosophy.
  15. I really question the mentality of this FO which often provokes injury disasters. They have finally got Martin off of SS into 2B & OF where he's excelling. But they still insist playing Julien at 2B instead of putting him where he's more suited at 1B. Therefore risking already abused Polanco off his natural position at 2B to an unnatural 3B. Therefore forcing Lewis to OF which is more hazardous to his condition. Just to force the idea that Julien is adequate at 2B. 2B is more important than they think plus risking 2 of our valuable players is unthinkable. I'm afraid that this burden of extra innings could be showing up on all our young pitchers and it's starting to take affect, Easing up a bit would be beneficial to them & also the older veterans. So they would be fresh coming into post season.
  16. Seward has a good relef history so you should be able to depend on him if he's OK physically. That they should look into more carefully & not over look red flags if there's any. Duran has been over relied upon & it's been showing. We need another high leverage RP to share the load. Seward could be that one, he wouldn't be that costly.
  17. The time to trade Larnach was before now when his trade value was worth something. Larnach is at his low point, you never sell at a low point. Larnach can still turn it around so I'd stick w/ him until he does. We've had a glut of cOF big bats especially LH, they draft & horde these guys. still FO went out took a chance & signed Gallo & put us in a bigger bind. They take these guys & try to squeeze out a few more HRs with the by-product of greatly increasing SOs. Prioritizing on this & neglecting their defense & base running.
  18. Our biggest problem this year at 3B, is Miranda. Lewis with more time at 3B will only get better, Castro, Farmer & Solano shows plenty of good depth there. We aren't hurting at 3B, keep Polanco at 2B and we're a better team w/ Julien at 1B
  19. It's not how well you start, it's how well you finish. Last year we started pretty well but after being over-stretched, players that weren't injured, limped along to the finish line (except Correa), This years approach is much better & we should finish strong coming into the post season.
  20. You might be right, Jenkins had some hip problems prior.
  21. You'd probablly wouldn't mind him playing for the Tarheels, wouldn't you?
  22. Twins have a fetish w/ cOF/1B/DH big bats especially LH and tend to draft & horde them. I agree with the majority here that Gallo should not have been signed but like I said that this FO has a fetish & the fact Levine knows him made it irresistable for them. Also Kepler should have been traded for a RP this last off season to reduce the log jam. Besides Gallo, Kepler, Larnach and Gordon, we can add Kiriloff & switch hitting Castro to the surplus right now. So it made no sense to sign Gallo or keep Kepler. Larnach & Wallner both have a lot of talent, it's ashame that this organization hasn't adequately developed them. Right now Larnach stock has fallen dramaticly we wouldn't close to get what he's worth.
  23. These Twins are notorious for playing players where they shouldn't be, Julien shouldn't at 2B & they shouldn't experiment Polanco at 3B especially when he isn't 100% yet. Keep Polanco at 2B & move Julien to his more natural position, 1B.
  24. I think there might be some resemblance, I haven't seen Prado enough to really know. What I valued in Dozier was his grit, love for the game & his team. Even for Prado to be a utility player it'd be an up-hill battle.
