  1. Sabato is a product of the FO fetish of these types that were a waste of a draft pick.
  2. Wallner has the tools to become an all-star RFer. I hate the go for a homer every AB philosophy & the SOs, FOs & pop-ups that follows. That philosophy killed Sano's career and Popkin said he was going to work with Gallo to change his 2 strike approach, looks like FO way won out. I rather Wallner hit fewer HRs if that revolutionize his SOs. Finally Wallner's defense developement is coming along if he ditches the FO philosophy that'd further advance his development
  3. I'd much rather go after Luzardo or Garrett (MIA) in exchange for hitting.
  4. I remember Schoop reccommending Cruz coming to the Twins. I was over joyed when he signed. He was a great Twin. I'm sad he wasn't able to do a farewell tour with the Twins for sentimental reasons. I'd love to see us bring him on as a player coach, where he could be an occasional DH. That way he could get the love he deserves. The Twins need to find a spot for him on the coaching staff we need his experience & motivation, which we could use more of. Congratulations Cruz on a wonderful career & thank you for your time as a Twin!
  5. Does Royce Lewis still qualifies for Rookie of the year, next year? That'd be great! If so, IMO he should definitely win it. I don't see Lewis suffer from sophmore jinx. 3B is not his position but he did a fine job there. When Brook Lee is ready, Lewis should move over to 2B
  6. Unfortunately, the Twins haven't put much importance on catching. What we need at the premium position of catcher is an elite prospect, You have to dig pretty deep in the MLB prospect rankings to find our top catching prospect & our top prospect catchers are years away. Carmargo is a solid hitter & average defensively in the minors but I doubt that will translate in the MLB. Unless they go out & trade for an elite MLB ready catcher (which I doubt) our only option is to sign Carmargo. You asked what would I do if I was FO? I would have pursued promising catcher prospects Endy Rodriguez, Jefferson Quero (MIL), Edguer Quero (now CWS) or even Rushing (LAD) early; go all in to draft Ethan Salas in the international draft; or atleast draft Cole Carrigg.
  7. Totally agree w/ you Weitz. I love Martin's chance to come up & contribute to the team. He's an ideal lead-off hitter. I'd feel better if he had more time in the minors at CF. They should have put him in Cf right away & leave his hitting style alone, he'd be in a better position to step up in '24. I wouldn't rush Lee & Severino, I have him drastically improve his SOs. IMO right now I'd go with Helmon before Severino.
  8. For years the Twin had not put importance on CF sub. We limped around in CF for years with Cave as Buxton's sub. They brought up & relied on Celestino too soon, they converted Revsnider & Gordon to CF (which all were an improvement over Cave). Finally they woke up & got Taylor, The result was a division title even with poor seasons from Buxton & Correa our studs. They need to continue to put importance on CF subs because we can't depend on Buxton to be in CF with any substantial time. They should have played Martin in CF sooner instead of trying to make him in SS (same what they did. with Julien at 2B instead of acclimated him at 1B which is his true position). To be safe IMO they need to bring back Taylor.
  9. Hopefully, Driveline will also add to his effeciency. But I think his injury had a lot to do with his fall off, I beleve that stat shows it. IMO he was pushed a little too much because of the push to extend SPs, which contributed to his injury. He still pitched a lot of quality innings but if he were controlled a little more he'd have more. That said IMO he'll have a much better year.
  10. I'd have liked to see see him pitch in AFL. But I'd assume they deem it better to have him rest until spring training
  11. Totally agree that the Twins should SO less, get on base & take advantage of the new rule. I think most players won't steal unless the coach sends them. Maybe they have to school the coaches to send them more often when the situation presents itself.
  12. The intangible of how Vazquez handles pitchers is invaluable. One of the main reasons why our pitchers were very successful and Jeffers's improvement is because of him. Which he doesn't get enough credit for. His addition took us from last year's bottom-of-the-barrel to upper average. It's a shame we don't have a high-ceiling-catching prospect to take advantage of Vazquez's mentoring. Our highest-catching prospect is Cosetti, which is 466th on Roto's list & high A. Carmargo could be OK for MLB 3rd catcher but I don't see him as backup. Twins don't put enough importance on athletic/good-hitting catchers. A slow, low-average catcher that can hit an occasional homer is good enough for them. Catching is a premium position, the Twins catching depth is very shallow they should put importance on it in last year's draft. Cole Carrigg which IMO was the 2nd best college catcher, was available to us in the 2nd round. Instead, they picked up an inferior prospect at 2B where we have a large glut. Should we trade Vazquez? I don't think so. We still lack depth & we'd get nobody in return because of his contract.
  13. Lopez has always been on my radar, very glad we got him. With his determination, grit & character I see him follow the route of Johan Santana & could even surpass him. The Lopez/ Arraez trade was beneficial to both sides. I'd like to see more MIA pitcher/ MN hitter trades.
  14. I prefer off-season trades over dead-line trades. Pitchers that teams want to shop, try to showcase them and then push them to the point where their arms are ready to fall off. Therefore peddling damaged goods.
  15. I'd go internally, some people's idea is that anyone can play 2B & 1B is complicated. Although 1B isn't as simple as some people think, it can easily be learned yet at 2B you need someone with a lot of range along with athleticism which can't be taught. Julien is better off at 1B & should be played there and leave 2B to Polanco, Lewis, Lee, Martin, or Castro. I'd like to give Miranda a shot some time because I think he can bounce back & mash so he can improve his value.
  16. I like your football ism & agree with you, Jocko. Great article Nick! Nick Paperesta was a great addition as far as his treatment & philosophy & his ability to change this team's philosophy of running their players to the ground, looking only to the present & forget the future. His intervention could have saved the careers of Buxton, Polanco, Lewis, and Kiriloff. It'd have been great to have Buxton pushed more to play more in the post but it's better for him to come back closer to 100% than risk possible setbacks by pushing him.
  17. Thanks, Brian, great job! I'm looking forward to the off-season
  18. Great bunch of prospects I'd protect Martin, Salas, E Rod, &Severino. I have great hope for Olivar & he's still young but I doubt anyone will take him because low A to MLB is a big jump.
  19. I should have texted this before. It's hard to say for sure, but I still suspect that HOU batters are wearing buzzers. I believe HOU has the mentality of winning no matter if it's legal or not. Batters should be scanned for electronic devices before they bat just to ensure everything is fair,
  20. Agree totally with you Adam. We have to max our defense so that means moving Polanco back to 2B, having hopefully Lewis at 3B if not, Farmer or Castro, and keeping Julien at DH or 1B when he plays. We need the rest of the line-up to wake up besides Lewis, Correa & Kepler
  21. I'm not much for early extensions but in Lewis's case I'd go for it.
  22. Gallo is the perfect example of this philosophy which accounts for so many SOs especially in the 1st half. The homers & walks comes from the surgence of Lewis, Julien & Kirloff in the 2nd half who don't abide by this philosophy.
  23. Thanks Peter for bringing this perpective to us. It makes me even more excited about our chances in the post season
  24. I surely hope they finally get off their relying too heavily on short relief which has been their down fall by over stretching them which also results in over stretching their rotation. I really believe this contributed to bad seasons & the 18 consecutive post season losses when we had potentially successful teams. I totally agree with you Cody that incorporating long relief is the key to a prosperous pitching staff. If the Twins comes through & agree with our philosophy, we will break that losing streak & progress.
