  1. Totally agree that the Twins should SO less, get on base & take advantage of the new rule. I think most players won't steal unless the coach sends them. Maybe they have to school the coaches to send them more often when the situation presents itself.
  2. The intangible of how Vazquez handles pitchers is invaluable. One of the main reasons why our pitchers were very successful and Jeffers's improvement is because of him. Which he doesn't get enough credit for. His addition took us from last year's bottom-of-the-barrel to upper average. It's a shame we don't have a high-ceiling-catching prospect to take advantage of Vazquez's mentoring. Our highest-catching prospect is Cosetti, which is 466th on Roto's list & high A. Carmargo could be OK for MLB 3rd catcher but I don't see him as backup. Twins don't put enough importance on athletic/good-hitting catchers. A slow, low-average catcher that can hit an occasional homer is good enough for them. Catching is a premium position, the Twins catching depth is very shallow they should put importance on it in last year's draft. Cole Carrigg which IMO was the 2nd best college catcher, was available to us in the 2nd round. Instead, they picked up an inferior prospect at 2B where we have a large glut. Should we trade Vazquez? I don't think so. We still lack depth & we'd get nobody in return because of his contract.
  3. Lopez has always been on my radar, very glad we got him. With his determination, grit & character I see him follow the route of Johan Santana & could even surpass him. The Lopez/ Arraez trade was beneficial to both sides. I'd like to see more MIA pitcher/ MN hitter trades.
  4. I prefer off-season trades over dead-line trades. Pitchers that teams want to shop, try to showcase them and then push them to the point where their arms are ready to fall off. Therefore peddling damaged goods.
  5. I'd go internally, some people's idea is that anyone can play 2B & 1B is complicated. Although 1B isn't as simple as some people think, it can easily be learned yet at 2B you need someone with a lot of range along with athleticism which can't be taught. Julien is better off at 1B & should be played there and leave 2B to Polanco, Lewis, Lee, Martin, or Castro. I'd like to give Miranda a shot some time because I think he can bounce back & mash so he can improve his value.
  6. I like your football ism & agree with you, Jocko. Great article Nick! Nick Paperesta was a great addition as far as his treatment & philosophy & his ability to change this team's philosophy of running their players to the ground, looking only to the present & forget the future. His intervention could have saved the careers of Buxton, Polanco, Lewis, and Kiriloff. It'd have been great to have Buxton pushed more to play more in the post but it's better for him to come back closer to 100% than risk possible setbacks by pushing him.
  7. Thanks, Brian, great job! I'm looking forward to the off-season
  8. Great bunch of prospects I'd protect Martin, Salas, E Rod, &Severino. I have great hope for Olivar & he's still young but I doubt anyone will take him because low A to MLB is a big jump.
  9. I should have texted this before. It's hard to say for sure, but I still suspect that HOU batters are wearing buzzers. I believe HOU has the mentality of winning no matter if it's legal or not. Batters should be scanned for electronic devices before they bat just to ensure everything is fair,
  10. Agree totally with you Adam. We have to max our defense so that means moving Polanco back to 2B, having hopefully Lewis at 3B if not, Farmer or Castro, and keeping Julien at DH or 1B when he plays. We need the rest of the line-up to wake up besides Lewis, Correa & Kepler
  11. I'm not much for early extensions but in Lewis's case I'd go for it.
  12. Gallo is the perfect example of this philosophy which accounts for so many SOs especially in the 1st half. The homers & walks comes from the surgence of Lewis, Julien & Kirloff in the 2nd half who don't abide by this philosophy.
  13. Thanks Peter for bringing this perpective to us. It makes me even more excited about our chances in the post season
  14. I surely hope they finally get off their relying too heavily on short relief which has been their down fall by over stretching them which also results in over stretching their rotation. I really believe this contributed to bad seasons & the 18 consecutive post season losses when we had potentially successful teams. I totally agree with you Cody that incorporating long relief is the key to a prosperous pitching staff. If the Twins comes through & agree with our philosophy, we will break that losing streak & progress.
  15. Best case scenario IMO is that Gordon comes back at '22 form with all the fire coming from the team. Then trade him this off season. Worst case scenario is he has a poor showing & is played in the INF too much again.
  16. IMO all the Twins pieces are at their low point of their true value. I'd hold onto them until their stock goes up and get someone better. IMO 1B isn't a problem area with Kiriloff, Julien & Miranda once he turns things around, they are much better valued options.
  17. Last year Ober was put on the fast track & he got injured early. This year he was put on a slower track which have kept him healthy but it was vastly larger work load which wore out his arm. Next year I expect more innings from Ober & more as he builds up arm strength in following years if brought along responsibly
  18. Twins seems to think that they can't limit Ober's innings unless he's pitching AAA. IMO that's a waste of Ober's arm down down in AAA. They need to set a reasonable rythym with Ober & keep him there throughout the season from start to finish, using long relief (piggyback). Not sending him down in the beginning then bring him up to try to see how many 7+ inngs he can pitch then send him down to AAA again. Limiting Varland innings in long relief has done wonders for him.
  19. IMO it was sure bet to bet on Julien. He has the compacity to become a very good lead off player along w/ Martin. My knock is when they were experimenting w/ Julien (1B, 2B,OF) that instead of stretching him 2B, they should have kept him at 1B, where he'd become much more accomplished & much more impactful. Even when Polanco was down we still had Farmer, Castro, and Solanco to man 2B ; all much better than Julien. Julien could have came up sooner as a 1B when Kiriloff was down and have more playing time now & the rest of the year. In the near future we have Lewis, Lee, and Martin with Polanco, Castro, Farmer, maybe Solano that are available & more capable there than Julien will ever be. While at 1B we have Kiriloff that can play OF. That show me the lack of vision this FO has for Julien the last couple of years.
  20. Polanco is a very important impact player for the the Twins, I've always been a big fan of his. Now I hope he'll stay 100% after being phyicially abused by the Twins, his rehabing & getting used to the MLB again. Keep him at 2B
  21. Since the 1st time I heard him speak, I've been very high on Lewis. Even during his experimenting and his injuries, I knew he'd find his way.
  22. I know the outrage, many times this type of outrage have been wrong. Here they'd be wrong again.
  23. Agreed, under these circumstances I can understand sending Ober down to regroup. Also like that the Twins had taken him slower to start the season which basically has kept him off the IL. But I'd prefer pacing Ober more so he wouldn't hit that wall so we could keep his effective arm up in the MLB not in AAA again.
  24. I've always said that Lewis is a MVP caliber player. He's not only the tools but the drive to produce in clutch times. Give him the opportunity he'll come through for us. It's a pity that he hasn't the innings to qualify for the ROY award, if he had the innings he'd win it. Keep him in the INF so we can have him on the field longer. Shout out to Polanco, Walner & Solano for also coming through for us. Using long relief has been proving effective. They should have incorporated that idea from the beginning to conserve the rotation & short relief to keep them effective throughout the year especially now in the home stretch & going into the post season. Along with pacing the SPs, Ober would have been fresher & would not been sent down.
