  1. Carlson would be intriguing, to say the least, He should have more upside & has more years of control. We also have a glut of talented OF, who are waiting for more playing time. We need to trade off some of them also.
  2. A top end SP is something very rare especially for the Twins (except this year), then you add his years of availability. A diamond that you want to hold on to. I'm hopeful that the Twins will be competitive in the coming years where we'll need him.
  3. I've been a big fan of Richardo Olivar, a catcher that can play anywhere in the OF, that leads off, strong arm, nice swing, gets on base & steal bases. He had a great season last year and figured he'd be slow to acclimate to pitcher dominating Florida league. He was a little slow but is doing pretty well with a 104 TB. I finally saw some clips of Olivar from Tom's podcast. He was pretty impressive defensively. Making heads up plays and quick athletic plays that a traditional catcher wouldn't come close to make. I'm sure he still has a lot to learn but he has the tools to become an excellent catcher.
  4. Just watch Olivar play on Tom's podcast. Was very impressed by plays he made due to his quickness & being heads up at catcher.
  5. Lopez had the best post All-Star SP performance so far, but overall the offense & BP let him down.
  6. 'I would do everything I could not to use his option so it was still available next year." Very good point Jocko, I agree totally with you. I always thought when Gordon comes back, just option Castro, but maybe now that's not the best option. IMO I'd unload Gallo. With hope that when Gordon comes back &he'd increase his stock so he could be traded this off season. Although Castro doesn't have the pop that Gordon has but the other aspects Castro is better. I really liked Castro this preseason so I was very happy & surprised that he stayed up w/ the team after they broke camp. I was surprised because the Twins normally prioritize big bats & ignore the other talents & preseason production. I really like Castro's ability to stay healthy, excellent defensive flexibility and his running the base prowess that is very lacking on this team (Castro would steal much more bases if this team were more running minded). He has out performed my expectations. IMO many great misuse the term "super utility player" (my definition is one who can play SS & CF well) Castro fits that definition. He is by far our best utility player & should stay there until some else can prove they are better.
  7. Thanks Cody for this important article. Defense overall is normally undervalued but IMO is very important, I had very high expectations for this team so far I've been a little disappointed. The 2 negative surprises for me are Gallo & Kiriloff. Gallo has been touted as an elite cOF, which he hasn't proved this season. I also expected much more from Kiriloff at 1B. For the last 2 years I've advocated Julien to play 1B. This team has a tendency to force some players into critical positions where they haven't the compacity to play. 1st Polanco forced to play SS, Cave at CF, Martin at SS and lastly Julien at 2B with the shift ban. If the Twins had the forsight they should have played Julien at 1B last extensively. 1B is where he could've came straight up to MLB when Kiriloff's return was delayed & there is where his future is at. Polanco has been abused by this organization by playing him for long time hurt all these years & it has affecting his performance & now it has paid a toll on his body. Normally he bounces right back, although this time it has taken longer but I'm confident he'll come back & play up to his expectations as well as Lewis & Buxton. The one nice surprise is Castro, where he has stepped in at almost any position & play above average defense.
  8. Our offense is starting to wake up after the All-Star game as I imagined. Our steady bench players, who have kept us in the chase are still contributing & Castro has turned it up a notch. Our young guys Kiriloff, Julien & Lewis has proven that they can really play ball. With Wallner is ready; Miranda & Larnach have a lot of potential that can break out once they can figure it out. The vets Correa who is notorious 2nd half player is starting to heat up, our Buxton has been hot & cold (he should be put on the IL until he's 100%), Polanco is normally better 2nd half when healthy. Kepler has been better & hitting clutch, Our problem is SOs, we need to ditch our "moonshot" philosophy & Gallo, this would help. I'd rather take a chance on our own talented players than trading our prospects for another bat. Our BP has looked good post All-Star game, but a proven back-end RP would prove invaluable down the stretch.
  9. Many years CO has had players that'd been very interesting pieces. This year they have nothing of interest & now they are interested to trade? No thank you.
  10. Julien isn't a 2B, I've advocated that they shouldn't have been having himwaste his time there the last 2 yrs. They should have focused him at 1st base & brought him up when Kiriloff didn't break camp at 1B. Unfornately now they need to send him down to refresh him at 1B. Besides Julien has no future at 2B when there is Polanco & Farmer there now & later there'd be Lewis, Lee & Martin coming up who are real 2B. The OF should be sorted out & put Kiriloff out there & have Julien the primary 1B, and have him do some DH.
  11. As long as Buck can play CF in the post season, I'm willing to save his body now. IMO we can squeak out a division title the way things stand.
  12. I heard on a podcast from a devoted NYY fan that they take a player that come into the "Show" hitting like gang busters then they start tinkering with their swing. Then they lose their feel & tank. IMO this have been the Twins approach. I reinerate with you again that experience trumps analytics. Analytics should be there to support not to head. That's where the Twins & Yanks have missed it. Of course not all experienced good hitters make good coaches but you can look at players that are are good at mentoring while playing. Those are the ones that make good coaches, Ones that come to mind are Cruz & Rich Hill. I've advocated that Baldelli should have been hired as a bench coach not as the head coach.
  13. Twins & NYY have the same objectives in hitting that only pays off only when "juiced" or "goldielocks" balls are in play & the Twins haven't had that advantage since '19. I'm not against analystics, what I'm against is the objectives from the FO of hitting "moonshots" that results in SOs. Hiring Lawson won't help. If Cruz is available, I'd prefer him because of his way of motivating players. This is who I'd prefer not only as a head batting coach but also head pitching coach & manager with an analyst there to assist not to head anything.
  14. This FO will never admit they're wrong, they'll double down instead. My vote is for Gallo to go 1st. Almost always he hits HRs when we don't need them and strikes out when we do. Kepler sometimes gets hits when we need them & no one plays Target's RF better them him.
  15. WOW! how did I make such a mistake! This is probally the biggest brain fart I've ever made! I meant '21
  16. Great article Hans. The team that does well in the post season & wins the WS is the team where their hitters & pitchers get hot towards the end . As I've been saying the Twins have the players that can compete & advance in the PS. The biggest point is that Correa has to get hot that sparks this offense which he usually does in the 2nd half. And the rotation needs to maintain their effiency which they normally don't because of a failing BP. We could use more depth in the end of the BP (keep Pagan out of there) & try to to keep the rotation from being burnt out. If we can do this, I'm all in. '21 Braves barely made the play offs & end up winning everything. IMO we have the same path. Last year LAD had by far the best record & went home early.
  17. The place where we were at in the off season was very heavy in cOF LH bats & short in RP depth. So they signed a cOF LH bat to a big contract & failed to add a top end RP. The players we traded for last year were hot the 1st half but didn't produce the 2nd half (Fulmer wasn't too bad). That's the chance we take, who can guarantee that any hot player we may target now will produce in the 2nd half? No matter what we do, our success hinges on if Correa & Buxton can get hot down the line. The line up will vastly improve when Polanco & Lewis come back, to accompany Kiriloff & our bench players. I'd trade Gallo + somebody else to HOU for a decent RP & stand pat. Since we failed to draft any catchers, I'd trade for a decent catching prospect.
  18. Soto is the one I'm most excited about of all our draftees. I like his talent, his attitude & maturity for such a young man. Usually the SPing process is long & laboress but with the mentoring of LaTroy & Pablo, I see him surprise a lot of people.
  19. IMO this FO has some querks, one is thinking a washed up soft tossing lefty (like Happ) can contribute to this team. Unfortunately, Keuchel is the next one, I had 0 faith in Happ & I have 0 faith in Keuchel. Though the idea to have a "fall back" is a good one, Keuchel isn't the answer. My solution would have been bringing back Chris Archer. I hesitate to suggest this because I know the blow back I'll get from people who fall for negative hype & fail to look at underlying conditions. But when Archer came back from his injury with TB he was able to pitch 3 good innings, he was able to get it up 5 innings with the Twins (he'd have more innings if the Twins pitch calling wasn't so absolutely terrible last year, driving his pitch count so high). On his projectory he should be able to pitch 5+ quality this year. Many was hoping he could have attain that level early last year but as we experienced with Polanco, Kiriloff and Buxton that total recovery often takes longer than we expect. Plus this year we have Vazquez that has aided tremendously to our starting rotation success (much more than many would admit) through his pitch calling & Archer would greatly benefit from him.
  20. I don't think firing Popkin will solve the problem because it's a policy problem not just a coaching problem. Until they change their policy nothing will change.
  21. I imagine Carrigg fit in the same category as Wyatt Langsford (was drafted by Florida as a top catcher prospect) where he was more needed in the OF because of his speed. Evaluators don't evaluate Carrigg as a catcher because he's listed as a CF. Pre season evaluation gave him high notes on his athleticism & his flexibility on defense where he could play anywhere including pitcher but noted his best position as catcher. He has all the tools (athleticism, quickness, leadership, strong arm & quick to learn) to not only stick at catcher but excel there. Because many evaluators only looked at him as a new OFer and not as a top notch catcher that decreased greatly Carrigg's stock, which made him a steal. That the Twins missed on. CO drafted him not as an OF/INF/utility but as a catcher. They got it right. Thought I throw in a clip At the end he was asked where his arm played out the best he replied catcher
  22. The 1st 2 pick were OK worthy of their order picked, but no steals. But our # 49 pick they blew it. Keaschall, is a good hitter, has above avg. speed but not great and at 2B , he doesn't man a premium position or fill a need. IMO Cole Carrigg is a better hitter, faster runner, has a great arm, a very athletic catcher (IMO the 2nd best college catcher) a premium position, where he was drafted by CO and is a position of great need for the Twins. The Twins could have stole Carrigg because the evaluators put him as a INF/OF where he was above average instead of catcher where he could excel plus he switch hits, So I'm very disappointed with the Twins #49th pick. If they felt the need to under slot, this was not the place to do it.
  23. Good pick, could do lot worse, hoping for a steal with the next pick.
