  1. Great article, Ted! Understanding is important in this situation. I'm hoping for a full recovery for Lopez. Unfortunately, in Andrelton Simmons case he had serious problems related to covid. When he 1st came to the Twins he was doing great until he was venomously attacked by media & fanbase and never fully recover since.
  2. Last year, Jeremy IMO nobody would have guess the positive Twins outcome. I agree with most posters that Gonzalez would be a mistake for our 1st round pick. I'd go with Teel as a under pick instead of Gonzalez. If we don't come up with Teel, then I'd go with Cole Carrigg (C) as our comp pick. I'm not familar with the other lower pick to comment. I'd be happy if the Twins pick up Klassen but I'd be even happier if he'd stay with Gophers one more year to continue work on his control. & go higher in the next draft.
  3. I like Dollander & Bradfield, Believe they are both underrrated & will be a steal for anyone. Both I'd pick over Gonzalez, picking him would be a big mistake. I hope they don't pick Gonzalez & doubt they'd pick a problem SP, Dollander or a light hitting, Bradfield.
  4. I'm familar with Eddie but not so much the others. But I think in Rosario case he's aggressive at the plate & swings at everything & often was a sucker for outside breaking ball.s But "slashers" that are more fussy with balls outside the zone are IMO less streaky. maybe it depends on how exactly we define "slasher"
  5. Great job Hans! I agree with you & most of the responses. Twins hitting phylosophy is something that I've been advocating against since '21, Stressing moonshots which is evident in the stat of winning a few blow out games & losing a ton of close ones. Hitting HRs when we don't need them & striking out when we need a hit. This philosophy needs to change. Even boppers needs to change their approach with 2 strikes (Sano is a victim of this philosophy). One thing I don't understand is your statement about slashers & knockers are streaky. IMO slashers & knockers are a lot less streaky than boppers.
  6. We want players go all out like Buxton & Lewis, but many times there are consequences that comes along with that which are injuries. Lewis is a spark plug he goes 100+% before he's less than 100% physically. IMO training & coaching have played a part in that also.
  7. I really like Jenkins for the reasons you mentioned but I really believe he won't stick at CF. We really don't need another LH cOF bat, so I lean towards Keel (C) over him.
  8. I wouldn't mind any of the top 5, & I'd include Teel in that group, because I have faith he can excel at catching. Crews is by far my top pick but I won't hold my breath on the possibility of getting him. IMO the next 5 are pretty close. By the time Clark is ready we could use a good CF, although we aren't hurting at CF as we are at catching. IMO I'd take Teel over Jenkins or even Clark but I trust our scouts know better than me.
  9. I'm with you Weitz about buying & selling but not too flashy. Many good teams this year had very slow starts. We have the personel that when all are in sync beginning the post we could be like the Braves did in '21. Trade Kepler and or Gallo to HOU for a good RP is a good idea & give some our young guys a chance, If we don't get a top college catcher prospect from the draft in the 1st couple of rounds, I'd trade for one.
  10. Are the Twins considering using him as a RP? or just SP? IMO we could do better even in a minor league deal.
  11. I respect your opinion & I know some have the idea that Langford could play CF. But Matt Wallner has a much stronger arm, faster and more years of development than Langford but no one has ever considered him as CF material. Yet IMO Wallner makes more sense than Langford. Langford is athletic enough to pass at LF but what I've seen, in my book, he has no business in CF.
  12. Yes, I knew that & intially thought he could be a great catching prospect if he had a better arm. Overall he has slightly above average speed, average arm and not great at reading the ball, that makes him passable in LF but definitely not CF. His selling point is not his defense but his big bat which if he's available at #5 the Twins will gooble him up and I'm totally fine with that.
  13. Yeah it's exciting. I'm not crazy about Langford's defense in the OF for the exact reason you stated he has trouble reading the ball. No way he should stick at CF in the pros I don't like to see him there at the college ranks. But I agree with you that he has a big bat.
  14. I've been following Kyle Teel since early this off season. In the 1st '23 draft prospects rankings, Teel was in reach of our comp pick. I like his projectory, he has risen well beyond our comp pick to where I'd consider him as our #5 pick. I love his progression, his tools, with his athleticism, arm, left handed bat and the way he rushes down the line to back up 1B. Old school, catchers were the ones too slow to play anywhere else. Today the top catchers will be the ones who are athelitic. Framing isn't that hard to learn & hopefully soon will be obsolete. Catching is a very valued position, Teel is the top established college catcher available, rising and great catching is a big need for us (some under value need in drafting but it should be high in the equation of selecting IMO). I would not be disappointed at all if we pick him at #5
  15. I don't think that Twins will draft Dollander, nor should they. Yet Skenes was coached by Wes Johnson so he's on top of his game where as Dollander wasn't coached like Skenes. So if a team believes they could correct Dollander, he'll be a steal because of his raw stuff.
  16. Great article Nick, I've been complaining about the Twins hitting approach since 2020 after the juiced ball era. Adjusting your swing to hit the ball farther when a pitcher makes a mistake is crazy, Which means winning blow out games when the pitchers are off but losing close games by striking out a lot. I was critical of the hiring HR leading hitting coach Popkin. An article earlier this off season about Popkin stated that he worked individually with the hitter to try to optimize each one's strength. So I thought to give him another chance, maybe it was the player's fault like Sano than Popkin or maybe it's FO fault by pushing their approach. I agree 100% with Lewis's approach of making contact, which I believe should be the main approach of the team. When a game is close it is less likely that a pitcher will make a mistake. I'd rather win a bunch of close games with clutch hits than losing them by striking out and winning a few blow out games by HRs.
  17. I'll second & third what was said. Duran should be a shoe in for the all-star team. We have been fortunate to have Duran so talented, smart & healthy
  18. Great job guys! I like where you have the top 2 (IMO) college catchers Teel & Carrigg. I agree with 2wins87 that Twins usually go after college bats. I'd like any of the top 5. But the way Teel is climging & our need for depth at catching, I'd be pleased if we'd pick him up. If Teel has an outstanding CWS, I won't be surprised if we did select him. If we don't select Teel then IMO we have to select Carrigg at #34, I'm also surprised where Dollander, Bradfield & Gonzalez have fallen
  19. I heard the same thing about Clark & that PIT might pick him up because of this. PIT & DET sometimes come up with surprises. So it could be interesting. I'm not crazy about Ledbetter either I think we can do better.
  20. We don't owe Boros anything (although FO think they do), there are many more that are much better than Kuechel. Hope they don't commit to him, keep him in AAA, We could use a potential emergency starter, Kuechel isn't it.
  21. A 6-man rotation IMO will interfer w/ the SPs rythym. We need our SPs find their rythym & stick w/ it. We need as many RPs on the active list as we can. We also need a steady long RP, Maeda being the better choice. But if Varland can't fix his HR problem up here then he needs to go down. Then Maeda starts but still we need a long RP ready to come in when Maeda needs help.
  22. I agree with you 100%. We have a great team where Correa & Buxton have greatly under preformed. Once they catch on fire, it'll be a totally different team, if the rotation can maintain their dominance. We could use some help in the BP. Gallo is leading the team in HRs but normally they come when we don't them & SO when we do. He's a waste of money especially since he's taking a spot away from a ton of prospects that can play where he does. Kepler should have been traded for at least for a decent RP, in the off season. Matt Wallner has all the raw tools to be a super star. But instead of developing the feel in how to play the OF, run the bases & at the plate, they focus on trying to squeeze extra HRs out of him at the cost of SOs; in these 4+ yrs. IMO they need to do a better job of player development & evaluation.
